Title: In Game Angst: AFL 2021 Rd 5: Carlton vs. Port Adelaide

I'm probably the only person who goes into every game feeling angst, but that's what the anti-depressants for for!  :D
I'll be at the game. A win would do wonders for my mental health! :) They always do!

Cripps should handball off all set shots, no matter where they are from.

Levi should throw the ball on the boot before his brain understands he is having a shot at goal and confuses him.

Double cobra celebration.  :o  :D

Kennedy puts in the hard yards even though all hope appeared to be lost.

That (perceived) pressure was enough for a fumble.

Goal saved.

Twice Murphy has had the ball coming in his direction and he's had his back to the ball.

First a handball through the middle.
Then a kick to him as he is running off to the bench.

He can't take all the blame, but he needs to be more aware of the situation he's in.

Cripps should be banned from kicking the ball.

Running through the middle with a teammate either side and succesfully kicks it inside 50 to 2 PA players perfectly.

A man has got to know his limitations!

Probably the worst we've played this year. It is extraordinary how poor our skills are.

On the positive side we're (just) still in it but this could easily get ugly in the second half if Port step it up a notch.

Carlton are the worst kicks in the competition. Carlton are the worst two way runners in the competition.
Carlton are the worst team at manning up during transition in play.  >:D

McGovern hasn't done much and what he has done he may have been better off not doing it.
SPS made a couple of bad decisions with the ball in hand, but did a couple good things, including tackling

Not too many 'bad' players, just a lot of bad decisions.

Our kicking is terrible, Defenders just don't stay with their men. Forward line is Casboult and nothing else..
Their defenders clearing the ball too easily, no pressure from a very slow forward line.

Kicking atrocious
10 metres behind on the spread
Ball movement way too slow
Structure a mess
McGovern’s failure to attack a contest at CHF in the 2nd qtr downright embarrassing

All not good
Teague a lot of work to do

Trying to play the chip chip chip game plan was not working.

Being more direct and through the guts was the change that needed to be made. We looked a lot more dangerous once we did that, but its our last kick inside 50, and our kicking at goal that has let us down. We turn it over there and they clear it end to end and score.

We are terrible tonight esp Cripps. Levi good though. Our execution has been really bad and we have missed 3 easy goals at least. Walsh fantastic early but seems to have faded. We really need to focus in the 2nd half and we could be in with a show.

We are a very lazy side that has little heart.
What are we? 6 yrs into a 3yr rebuild that had taken 20yrs to get to this position.
The boys can play. They have the skills but most of them don't have it between the years.
Disappointing bull $hit.
Mcgovern is lazy, McKay is dumb and Casboult can't kick. Great forward line.

Funny definition of crap!

I wasn't accusing YOU of plowman bias, i was saying he is doing the same things that are overlooked in the same way it is overlooked when plowman does it.

People focus on the couple of stuff ups and miss the 20 good things.

I concede he's stuffed up. Everyone has had their issues. Our other captain has stuffed up more though. But unlike Doc, Cripps' bad decisions don't happen in front of goal and he gets away with them.

28 points, felt like a lot more tbh. We were lucky to lose.

More scoring shots, 10 more forward 50 entries, lost by 28 points.

If only they wanted it badly enough. That's the most frustrating.

10 more tackles, 1 more mark I50, won the clearances, won the free kicks, 10 more I50's. It's like a scorecard from a different game.

Got a few players who don't want it when's it's hard, we play bruise free footy.
Some big names on big money who let us down...

We never looked like winning. We butchered it and their skills were sublime.

Completely agree. Where's the intensity, aggression, leadership?

Never thought we'd win tonight but it was a real opportunity to stand up and show where the club is headed. Instead we sat back, fumbled and bumbled and showed where the club is headed.

We play the mob who beat them next week....lol.

If Essendon play like they did tonight they'd be lucky to beat North. Every week is different through.

Our next 4 games are going to be depressing. Essendon will even beat us.. as usual we are terrible.

Kicking efficiency 77-57%.

Yes, I agree. But for all our butchering, the numbers indicate many opportunities squandered.

I was watching Essendon. Tonight's effort would be enough to beat them. We were bad, they were way worse.

Thanks fellas for keeping me apprised :)

Even though I was blind to it tonite, it's bloody obvious to throw away the fitness manual for a spell and get these players to practice kicking.

Pretty sure we were batting under 50% for the first 3 quarters.

We struggled to stay motivated 3 games in a row. Two seems to be the limit.

There were, but I think a lot of those opportunities came when the game was already over. The stats might fudge that a bit.

Actually, it was the same all game. In the 3rd qtr we had 5 more F50 entries. Port kicked 6.1 from 13 entries in the 3rd qtr. We got 2.5.

Yes, perhaps. If the kicking for goal had been better up to 3/4 time, some scoreboard pressure would have made the final quarter very interesting.

Its not just about the entries, its quality of entries.

They had good quality into plenty of space.
We had bombs to a crowded or outnumbered forwardline.

We took one more mark inside 50 than Port, and I note Brendan Goddard on the wireless saying they were forcing us wide inside 50 far too often. So the entries and marks were there, just not in the right places. Teague was forward line coach at the Crows - surely he can sort this ?

Scoreboard flattered us, we were average vs Freo and GC and played the same bruise free brand tonight vs a better skilled team and got  showed up in all areas. This was a disappointing loss..
