Hits & Misses 2014

Year nearly over, list some things the club did well, some things they did poorly - both on and off the field. I'm tempted to say 3 of each but go nuts:

Hits
Finished the year far ahead of where we started
Signing of significant players (though wasn't a fan of some of the terms)
Buckley, Menzel, Rowe

Misses
Poorest start to the season in a very long time
Dale Thomas
Traded pick 7
Clumsy start by the prez (Wright, INC, big financial loss, etc)

Hits
1. Deep List Cull
2. Deliberate Trade/Draft Targeting
3. Menzel/Casboult game time
4. Rowe

Misses
1. 0-4 start to 2014
2. Goal Kicking Improvement (no pun intended)
3. Trigg Appointment
4. Board factions
2017-16th
2018-Wooden Spoon
2019-16th
2020-dare to dream? 11th is better than last I suppose
2021-Pi$$ or get off the pot
2022- Real Deal or more of the same? 0.6%
2023- "Raise the Standard" - M. Voss Another year wasted Bar Set
2024-Back to the drawing boardNo excuses, its time

Successfully targeting Docherty / Jaksch
Trigg - has impressed me so far (particularly his talk around recruitment)
Lowering the avg age of the list

Misses:
Warnock
Losing every close game
Prez - Happy if he turns out to be good but the early signs could not be much worse. Something is just NQR at board level.

Hits
Improved performance in the second half of the season.
Gibbs continuing to improve.
Rowe establishing himself as a key defender.
Sheehan forcing his way into the 22.
Everitt demonstrating that he was a worthy addition.

Misses
Appalling start to the season.
Losing to Melbourne and uncompetitive performances generally.
Underwhelming season by Dale Thomas
Bootsma, Robbo and Garlett.
Malthouse's media performances.
“Why don’t you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don’t you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don’t you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?”  Oddball

These are my main ones - could go on at much greater length though.

Hits
Gibbs
Trigg
Judd stays for another year
Murphy improving as capt.
Wood surprise packet.
Recruiting but jury still out
List cleanout

Misses
Shocking season start
Board/The Judge - still a boys club it seems.
List Management - Wright not secured. SoS may prove to be OK though.
MM far too easily provoked/baited by media.
Better form by season's end but still could not finish off some close games - lack of killer punch.
Garlett/Robbo debacle - glad they've gone though.
Daisy not really fully ready.
Warnock/Kreuzer non contributors (different reasons).
Reality always wins in the end.
