To think that Teague would go on TV and explain the workings of his game plan would be naive. He looks like a man who keeps his cards very close to his chest to me.
Reality always wins in the end.

Yep and that’s what good teams can do on occasions. Conversely, 6 days before hand, we hardly had a passenger in a game that went to the wire.

I disagree. Good teams win consistently, display consistent good form, beat the better teams more often than not, and put weaker teams to the sword.

I reckon we put the queue in the rack after q time.   Much less manic attack on the footy , less tackling pressure.

And no way are we good enough to do that yet.   It’s hard to switch back on, once you have switched off.  Almost paid the ultimate price for it.

So give me a ‘good team’ this year, I’ll quote you occasional inconsistent performances.

I agree, but that's not my point. Apart from the Bulldogs, falling over against this team or that team does nor engender much confidence. All teams have been inconsistent, but you can be inconsistent and still look convincing, like Port. We have scored 100 points or more the last 3 games against the Dogs - it's entirely possible that we are simply their bogey team.

For some people, "we won" is enough. For those of us who take an interest in detail, nuance and subtlety, it's not nearly enough.

No we aren't. Teague himself has said on numerous occasions that the style hasn't changed that much. As we can see with Clickbait Clarkson, there's nothing any coach can do about kids and hacks. He can barely get a yelp out of O'Maera, Mitchell, Wingard, Scully etc.

Sorry, what?! We have not taken on the game via shirt 45s and risks through the middle this much since Rats was catching. Our forward structure is unrecognisable and our defensive line is much deeper than any time in the last 15 years.
What happened to my old profile?????

Geez you’re a hard man to please Paul.
While they are admirable desires to have, the last time we displayed them consistently was back between 95 and 99.
The last time we were briefly considered a football team was 10 years ago under Ratten.
We are making progress.
Let’s go BIG !

I'm not hard to please at all. I'm not questioning progress, I'm questioning the fact that folks think it's a leaps-and-bounds progress and I'm saying it's anything but.

I think you’re splitting hairs then.
No one her is typesetting the 2020 flag (yet 🙄) but we are progressing, we seem to be learning.
12 months ago we couldn’t win a close game, now we seem to be learning how to dig in and hold that lead, accept the green shoots...
Let’s go BIG !

Are we also growing a few thorns? 😁

I'd call it methodical progress, you look at Richmond, Brisbane and Stkilda and you only need a catalyst like a good trade period and you make the next big step into finals.
We are now that one step away IMHO... then it's up to the coach.

I suppose then the timing was perfect for the white-ants to pounce and claim all the glory.

I think there is a significant overconfidence in Liddle, Lloyd and cronies, they haven't really been tested yet, for now they are living off the efforts of those who came before them, the predecessors who mostly wore the earlier pain.

Yes, but is this luck, or progress, or both ? Last night, I would argue that at best, we were level pegging with North for 3q, and at worst, we were slightly outplayed. Don't forget, we've lost our fair share of close games as well.

There are those who think the 99 prelim is some kind of pinnacle, a victory for the ages. I disagree. I think it was fraudulent, and I'm deferring judgement until I see that where we're at now is beyond the stage of false hope.

I don't see that closeness myself.

What would you regard as a progress 'Pass' mark Paul?
Would finals be enough?
