But no ‘Goal of the Year’ for Cripps?
These awards are getting weirder every year.

I got no argument there. That was a freak goal. All 3 would've been worthy.

I reckon that "mark of the year" wouldn't have featured in Sam's list of possible awards and I think that helps to make it such a remarkable achievement.

It was an incredibly courageous act from a young man who isn't built for busting packs, and it was perfectly judged.  A well-deserved award; well done Sam!

That mark marked was a turning point for Sam's season. There was talk around then of Walsh being overtaken by Smith and Rozee. The doubters shutup after that game and I was half thinking at the time that it may have been in the back of  Walsh's mind when he went for the mark.

Amongst all the hype for the other young ones doing well, it's easy to forget Walsh because he has been so good from his very first game.   Has now played 39 out of a possible 39, and I think his Brownlow nights will only get better from this point onwards....

Congratulations Sam. What a memorable show of your Super skills and steely mind.
Interesting to hear Sam acknowledge his growth following focused training with one our most courageous. Simmo 👏 Going back with the flight of the ball is trademark "selfless Simmo". Great legacy to leave your team mates.

And right on cue, Kane Cornes on FC reckons Walsh's mark was not a worthy winner. Gee, what a surprise.

Not a glamorous mark but made up for that with the courage required.
Cornes hates Carlton and pushes Rozees barrow at every opportunity, continued tonight by saying Rozee will be better than Walsh long term, had to admit though Walsh had the better year.

He's childish and petty.

He was fairly tongue in cheek and was asked at the end who had the better year and he admitted Walsh. That would have hurt.

Cornes is just a Carlton Hater. I thought Sam's mark was the best this year though I thought the Bobby Hill mark was pretty good as well. If Hill had received the Mark of the Year I don't think it would have been as bad as the Jeremy Howe decision last year or Andrew Walker in 2011. It is a bit like the Goal of the year. I thought the Newnes goal was the best for the year but I thought the Daicos one was a pretty fair effort.

If we are being really super honest, as mightily courageous as it was (John Brown and Nick Riewoldt like), it wasn't mark of the year in the vein of Jeremy Howe, Shaun Smith, Andrew Walker (Mark of the Year that was robbed) etc. Kane is a knob but as he said, there were probably better high marks (ie spectacle). But lets not begrudge the kid, it was super.

I'd love to see Kane "soft option" Cornes run blindly towards Dixon at full speed. He couldn't even handle being a firey. Peanut.

Just a cheap attempt by a bitter attention seeking jerk to steal a kid's joy. Go Sam!!

Sells out his own club as much as he derides others, very much a merc.

No respect is due or earned by that type, someone who kneels to the biggest bidder until a bigger bidder comes along, yes man for hire, an opinion prostitute!

The thing that probably got him over the line was that the body heading in the other direction was Charlie Dixon, on a day when he was treating Liam Jones like a ragdoll.

Every time we (Carlton supporters) give Cornes attention he gets his jollies.
It's what  his Carlton baiting is all about.
He's just trolling for a reaction
If he was on the forum he'd have been banned a long time ago. ;)

In terms of the mark, it's probably a question of  personal preference.
I love the big high mark as much as anyone.
Walker was robbed.
Others prefer the courageous 'back with the pack" mark
I remember thinking at  the time of Walsh's mark....that's the best I've seen by a Carlton player for some years (probably since the Walker one).

I for one hope that Walsh doesn't make a habit of those types of marks. He got a little chop out from Liam Jones which impeded Dixon to a degree, but that wont happen all the time, and Dixon or similar types at top speed could really inflict a lot of damage.

I totally agree GTC ... he came in from the side someways and though it was without doubt a superb mark, it isn't an all time classic.  Newnes goal?  That was and is.

And to her credit, Carro said exactly that as did Hutchy. Said Newnes should have got GOTY.
