I don't mean to be offensive, but how in God's name did Denver Grainger-Barras get selected so high? I can't say that I've seen much of him before, but he reminded me more of Monahan last season, or Duffy this season. He doesn't look smooth, he's awkward and doesn't run to the right spots ...
Granted that he was useful last night, but ...

I think he has done his dash as a defender. Do we persevere with him as a forward? He ended up getting enough ball to be dangerous and he does leap well (although he doesn't always get close to it). His kicking ... his kicking reminded more of Percy Jones, to be honest.
Be a No from me on DGB, heard some unflattering stuff about his training attitude at Hawthorn and being full of himself.
God, he can turn gold in faeces! He did some great things, only to muck them up. I'd be be playing him forward, as we really don't have any marking forwards left at the moment, but he doesn't look to be the future.

The Sports Desk / Re: God help me - the Test Cricket thread
Green really stood up as a batsman on day 3; credit where it is due. His innings was full of character. Can he repeat it? That would be questionable, but if he commits himself as he did in this innings, then maybe he might have a future.

Like Prof mentioned, it would be interesting to see McSweeney if he had half the chances certain other have. I do rate the guy.

Also, kudos to Steve Smith; his 2nd innings after a horror injury and he stands up.

The pitch is also doing interesting things. Do the Windies think that poor pitches give them an edge? You might think so on what we've seen so far. In recent years the pitches over there have been roads, supposedly to help their batsmen. An interesting change in strategy.

The not so good:

[1] Lewis Young: after getting leather poisoning, 13 possessions in the 1st quarter, he went off injured. The way he was playing ... Don't want to go there. Hope he isn't done for the year.

[2] Flynn Young: 5 possessions, backing up after last night. Considering that he kicked the first goal, it was a very disappointing effort.

[3] Harry Lemmey: 10 disposals, but kicked 2 goals.2 clearances and 3 tackles, and 1 tap. Considering our kicking, I guess we can't complain, but I was hoping for more. We were an extremely short team today and needed our couple of talls to stand up. At least Lemmey kicked 2 goals. Cox (Coll) only kicked one, and that was from a really dodgy free. he just dropped to the ground like something dead and the umpire fell for it.

Great wins by the VFL boys and the VFL girls. 2 out of 3.
Indeed, 2 out of three, and two damned close ones that we stole. May it happen every time we play Collingwood: we owe these maggots a hell of a lot of pain!

Carlton: 12 - 11 - 83
Meat Pies: 11 - 13 - 79

We turned the clearances around totally: 40 to 24! That is a huge change over the first half.
We had so much more of the ball: 400 possessions to 327, but don't use it well. I wonder where we've heard that before.
At least the youngsters have a bit of ticker!

Jaxon Binns: 28 possessions, 2 clearances, 3 tackles and a goal: a much improved effort. But, he still makes it hard for his team mates with his kicking.
Will Hayes: 26 possessions, 6 clearances, 4 tackles and a goal. We miss him when he doesn't play.
Ben Camporeale: 26 possessions, 8 clearances and 4 tackles. Ben seems to play better in the 2nd half of games. he often starts slowly, but come home with a wet sail. His brother tends to do the opposite.
Lucas Camporeale: 24 possessions, 2 clearances and 4 tackles.

We lost the taps, but really came home with the clearances.

What a waste of a quarter.
Carlton 3 - 3 - 21
Collingwood 3 - 3 - 21
We get the first 3, they get the last three. :(

123 disposals to 92.
We got 1 free for the entire quarter!
40 marks to 27.
We're down in the ruck and at stoppages: we've only got 1 ruckman, while Collingwood have 2. :(

Lewis Young: 13 possessions! That's more than he usually gets in a game!
Phillips has 9.

8 of the top 9 possession getters are Blues.

Evans wasn't alone.

{1] Orazio Fantasia: 8 possessions, 1 clearance, 1 tackle, 1 goal.
[2] Jesse Motlop: 8 possessions, 1 clearance, 2 tackles and 2 goals. (Probably the best of them on the night.)  :(
[3] Lachie Fogarty: 7 possessions, 1 clearances, 3 tackles and 0 goals. :(
[4] Ashton Moir: 9 possessions, 1 clearances, 1 tackle and 1 goal. For all that, Moir did show something. He took a couple of very nice marks and his clearance was a centre one.
[5] Tom de Koning: 11 possessions, 3 marks, 1 clearance and 0 goals.  :(  >:(
[6] Francis Evans: 12 possessions, 7 marks, 0 tackles and 2 points.

Flynn Young had 6 possessions for 1 quarter, and hit more only miskicked twice.

At least the girls won, although it took a huge number of AFLW listed players to manage it:
Carlton: 6 - 5 - 41
Collingwood: 5 - 7 - 37

Brooke Vickers; 27 possessions to lead all comers.

I saw a highlight of Keeley Skepper slotting a goal from the boundary just as the siren went to put us in front.
Not sure if that was to win the game or if it was at one of the breaks.
Can you confirm?
I think that was the game winner.
