The girls play their last game for the season on Saturday night at Carlton against the Drug Cheats (19:15). We would not be favourites, but we could stop Essendon from getting into the finals. We should have Vescio back from injury.
This Sunday at 15:05 at Collingwood. We might start favourites here, as Collingwood haven't won many this year.
Our line-up: B: [27] Gen Lawson-Tavan [21] Harriet Cordner HB: [6] Gab Pound [9] Kerryn Peterson [10] Mimi Hill C: [22] Mia Austin [5] Abbie McKay [4] Keeley Skepper HF: [25] Keeley Sherar [36] Ciara Fitzgerald [29] Jade Halfpenny F: [8] Celine Moody [16] Breann Moody R: [12] Jessica Good [18] Madeleine Guerin [20] Lily Goss Int: [34] Taylor Ortlepp [17] Dayna Finn [26] Tarni Brown [1] Amelia Velardo [15] Meg Robertson
Em: [14] Marianna Anthony [23] Lila Keck [13] Lulu Beatty
Jade Halfpenny is our 7th debutante for the season. Celine Moody plays her 50th game. Can't recall many sensational ones, but we have 4 big marking targets. Granted that not many of them kick goals or take contested marks, but that is another tale. No Vescio - still in concussion protocols.
Having Peterson and McKay come back is a big positive for us. I don't think we'll miss Dal Pos much: she's struggled since she's got here. Duursma ... I hope she'll get better, considering that we traded for her. Meg Robertson looks reasonable: she appears to be a decent pick-up. Maddy Guerin has made a decent return, but isn't consistent yet. We really need a lift in the ruck: hopefully, Moody will show what she's capable of. Our forward line is not looking strong.
Game is at 19:15 at Ikon for those who want to attend what is supposedly the 1000th game at our home ground. We are not likely to win: Brisbane are one of the favourites for the Premiership.
Our line-up: B: [27] Gen Lawson-Tavan [21] Harriet Cordner HB: [6] Gab Pound [49] Madeline Hendrie [10] Mimi Hill C: [36] Ciara Fitzgerald [23] Lila Keck [4] Keeley Skepper HF: [25] Keeley Sherar [2] Jessica Dal Pos [26] Tarni Brown F: [17] Dayna Finn [22] Mia Austin R: [16] Breann Moody [18] Madeleine Guerin [20] Lily Goss Int: [3] Darcy Vescio [15] Meg Robertson [14] Marianna Anthony [12] Jessica Good [11] Yasmin Duursma
Not surprised that Celine Moody is out, but our forward line is lacking. Darcy Vescio can't buy a goal and Mia Austin doesn't really know what she's doing yet. Hopefully we can do a bit better than we did last week.
After 2 shockers in a row, the girls are on a hiding to nothing with another short break. We play Port this Sunday in Adelaide. Not ideal, but ... Sunday 29th Sep at Alberton Oval at 17:05.
B: 20 Lily Goss 21 Harriet Cordner HB: 6 Gab Pound 11 Yasmin Duursma 10 Mimi Hill C: 2 Jessica Dal Pos 3 Darcy Vescio 4 Keeley Skepper HF: 25 Keeley Sherar 22 Mia Austin 26 Tarni Brown F: 49 Madeline Hendrie 12 Jessica Good R: 16 Breann Moody 18 Madeleine Guerin 15 Meg Robertson Int: 36 Ciara Fitzgerald 23 Lila Keck 14 Marianna Anthony 8 Celine Moody 13 Lulu Beatty 27 Gen Lawson-Tavan 29 Jade Halfpenny 17 Dayna Finn
Now we have a couple of girls who used to play for Port, so that will be an interesting aspect of this one.
Our first home game for the year at 14:35 on Saturday. Geelong were finalists last year, so we won't be going in as favourites. They are short on ruck talent, while we are reasonable in that area. Hopefully, Geelong will be Felis Domesticus this weekend.
Voting is as usual: you have 15 votes to award pretty much as you will, with the following provisos: [1] 15 votes in total, no more, no less. [2] No more than 10 votes for any one player (even Sam Walsh or Patrick Cripps) [3] Three players at least must get a mention. [4] A grade for the game, A+ (what I want to see) to F-.
Our first AFLW game against Hawthorn is this Sunday at 13:05 at Frankston. Why Frankston? Good question, and I don't have a good answer. Not a great place to play when it is windy. Lulu Beaty is named for her debut. The rest of the team is, as yet, uncertain, as in Schödinger's Cat. No doubt it will drop into its Eigen State in the next few days.
With Port defeating Freo, we are in. Unless we get some players back and a bit more form than we've shown in recent weeks, we're only going to last 1 week.
