@ Lods and @ PaulP
You make excellent, logical points. Unfortunately, the vast majority of Carlton supporters don't see it this way, they only things they see are:
1. The fact that we haven't won a premiership in 31 years.
2. Playing finals every year.
3. Ladder Position (improvement year on year).
The above are all fine as expectations for fans and the club, the problem with our club has been that the same person has copped the blame for it every time they have been met (by fans and the club), the coach.
There are a host of reasons for the above three key objectives being met/not met. What's important is that those administering the club properly analyse those reasons and act on rectifying them in a measured way. Whether it's the coach, high performance, injuries, players not adhering to club mandates etc, I care not, as long as it's dealt with properly and professionally.
Over the years, I have felt that the club as acted on the of whim the supporter base and the media. I'd like to think with the recent appointments of those in charge, that has now changed.

I'll just add this on coaching, IMO there isn't a hell of lot of difference between all the coaches and games styles these days, I personally think the key to success is the right mix of talent, experience, workmanlike role players, the cohesion of the all the above and consistent availability of the above.

Blah-Blah Bar / Re: General Discussions
Sorry but burning the Australian flag at a protest disgusts me and loses all my respect. The Rent-a-crowd mobs stooped to new lows this year IMO.

Happy Australia to those who love this country and what it is, we are still very fortunate by comparison.

To those who live in constant anger and hate for the place, well you all know my lingo, its class and the eloquence with which I deliver my messages.

Excellent restraint there, GTC. Would your message to those who choose to harm and denigrate our country and its people be something like, FO?  ;D
About as close as fark is to swearing Baggers.

Blah-Blah Bar / Re: General Discussions
Most of the time I find hand tools plenty quick enough for most jobs. E.g fencing...a brace and good auger keeps smashing through Redgum posts long after all the batteries are kaputt.
I have to say, at least for smaller jobs around the home I've been going the same way myself. There is zero noise, and my joints don't feel the plain the next day!

On top of this I've regained a lot of temporarily lost skills, I can sharpen bits, knives and axes now to shaving sharp with little to no effort. Lately I've been searching for old style saws, no carbide teeth, I recently bought a secondhand sawtooth setting tool, and I already have the files needed to resharpen.

What's the point of spending 2hrs at gym to use a cordless drill for 30s, I hate gym, I'd much rather be at home and use the brace, an axe or a hand saw?

I still use my 650W corded AEG drill for masonry work, it's 20 years old and still got power the battery models only dream about, the new Bosch Bulldog Brushless goes close, by why bother when the AEG is still going strong.
I have my Dad's old corded AEG, I reckon its close to 40 years old. Heavy and long as hell but still works.
Years ago I bought a bag set of Ryobi 1 tools (drill, impact driver, saw, sabre saw, grinder etc) for work around the house and beach house. I have thrashed the living hell out of them and I cant kill them.

Blah-Blah Bar / Re: Shawny’s concerns about Victorian and Australian Governments
You would think with Albo on the ropes with regards the economy, migration, anti semitism etc that the Libs would be soaring in the polls and climbing back into poll position for the next election but alas the nationals have bailed on them again and Party Leader David Littleproud has said they cant and wont be working with Susan Ley. Right Wing Fish and Chip purveyor Pauline Hanson's popularity on the other hand has gone through the parliamentary roof and its Susan Ley looking like she is yesterday's fish and chip paper and on the way out. Libs will do their usual next dud up mentality and pick Hastie or Taylor when they should looking at some of their younger better performers...
Albo might get in again by doing a Bradbury and staying off the pace while the others trip themselves up..

Ley was the wrong choice, I said it at the time and it will come home to roost. The Libs should be renamed the No Opposition party, with leaders like Ley they provide zero alternative to a Government who must be pissing themselves laughing. Albo and Wong couldn't fark things up any worse if they tried and would get re-elected in a canter if an election was held tomorrow.
Jacinta on the other hand has a real fight on her hands here in Vic.

The Sports Desk / Re: God help me - the Test Cricket thread
As a person who know SFA about cricket, I have always wondered why a T20 or One Day Style of go the tonk is never applied in Test cricket. Or why players who are guns (bowling and batting) in the short forms are no good in the longer form. I guess the English team demonstrated it but I still cant work out the "differences" in skill set. Can the aficionados (Proff or EB) provide some simple dot points for me explaining or pin pointing the nuances (apart from the obvious length of the games) of Test and Short form Cricket.

From Jillian Segal's Envoy report:
2.1 From October 2023 to September 2024, antisemitic incidents surged by 316%, with over 2,000 cases reported – threats, assaults, vandalism and intimidation. In October and November 2023 alone, episodes increased over 700% compared to the previous year, reflecting incitement by those with extremist views and misinformation in the media and online. These figures exclude much of the hate online, where antisemitism has exploded. Notable incidents include the firebombing of Melbourne’s Adass Israel Synagogue, firebombing of a childcare centre adjacent to a Synagogue and school, firebombing of cars in residential areas and the repeated targeting with graffiti of Jewish schools and places of worship. In February 2025, ASIO Director General Mike Burgess declared antisemitism Australia’s leading threat to life.

Clearly the Government, ASIO, the AFP have had the information but Albanese has refused to act and protect Jewish citizens in this country.Think I read that 70% of Jews in Australia vote Liberal which isnt unexpected and thats probably going to spiral upwards after recent events. Its been clear that the ALP and the Greens are anti Israel and pro Palestinian, so Albanese has been in no hurry to act until now of course when under the media and world spotlight. 50% of Jews left Nazi Germany pre war so it will be interesting to see if we get a significant exit from Australia now its unsafe for them.
My ex-neighbour who sold house and moved because of how bad it was in our area now believes he would feel safer in Israel and is considering uprooting his family and going there. Think about that for a second? Where are we at as a nation if even one person thinks living in the Middle East is safer than Melbourne/Australia?
