Farewell Sophie Li

Farewell to Sophie, pity as she is a great player, fearless, fast and aggressive.

Thanks for your games at Carlton and good luck for the future!

Personal reasons

Quote
Carlton AFLW player Sophie Li will not play for the Blues in 2019, after electing to remain in her home state of South Australia.

A combination of personal and work-related factors has resulted in the Adelaide-born midfielder choosing to stay in SA with her partner and immediate family.

Best wishes to her, except when we play Adelaide!

IMHO they reflect best where our footy club is at.

People don't depart good organisations easily.

This is less true of professional environments as there is a financial drawcard that keeps people involved but the aflw is not there yet and might speak for why we're bleeding talent.

They do when the commitment is as transient as an AFLW season, as you suggest Thry.

I heard Lauren Arnell talking about the disruption the coming AFLW season will have on her life and career and I think it will be some time before an AFLW career takes priority over other issues.

It is interesting that the mass exodus of our AFLW stars, as predicted by self-appointed experts, didn’t eventuate.  Perhaps we’re not as bad as the haters like to think.

The competition and 'compensation' for sacrificing other aspects of their lives just isn't there yet.
It will continue to be a pretty fluid situation with player movements for a few seasons yet.
Don't get too attached to anyone ;)

It's only the money that stops the men doing this, and even so as the years go by and players get use to the income levels on offer we'll see it increase in the men's comp as well.
