Robert Heatley Stand / Re: VFL Round 12: Northern Blues vs. Footscray
Overcast and colder than a politician's promise. Drizzled for a few minutes in the 2nd quarter but apart from that it remained dry. Ground was in good nick.

Picked a really bad game to get some idea of where some of our young blokes are at. Hardly any positives so I had to watch certain blokes really closely to see how they were handling getting beaten so comprehensively.

We lose by 100+ pts and beat Franger by more than that. Wow, Franger must have sent out their under 15s last week.

Didn't see Byrne out there.

I thought Tyrone Armitage was probably bog, closely followed by Fields, then Bransgrove, Soncin, Dick and perhaps Fraser Russell. To be honest though, our better players were blokes who weren't beaten badly, just beaten.

Walsh: Yes he has a terrific attitude and goes in hard but he's not clean enough with his hands at the moment and is too easily knocked off the ball or out of the contest. Going to also be tough for him due to his size. When you're that small you'd better have some tricks. Astonished he was mentioned in the better players.

Fields: For me he was one of the brighter lights. A good size and puts in strongly. Second efforts need work. One of the better NBs listed blokes. He let one go from full back and it was sensational - clipped the wing of the 3:45 Qantas flight Melbourne to Perth. Every bit of 75 metres+. When he is simply passing to a team mate can do the Ang C. thing with a 50+ metre left footer. Thinks like a footballer. Considering the dominance of the Dishlickers he was a brighter light.

Liam Jones: Looked much better in the ruck. And he's not that good in the ruck. Took a screamer in the first quarter. I watched him closely to see what he did off the ball - FA. He tried hard and his second efforts were there but for me his problems are all between the ears. He has the skills but there's something missing with understanding the game and working when the ball is not in his vicinity. I would suggest calling in Doctor Michael Hfuhruhurr to perform a brain transplant between Slug Ellard and Liam Jones.

Watson: Matty Watson only had one big problem in the game - an opponent. And this opponent did really weird things like body up and was quicker than Watson. When he was allowed to be loose in the backline in the last quarter he racked up possessions... no opponent. Did precious little. Though he did take one contested mark!!! Pick yourself up off the floor Ye Rat O' the River and have a stiff brandy.

Dick: Was one of the brighter lights in a very dim game. Put in and did some good things. Spent plenty of time in the midfield. Probably worth persisting with but has a fair way to go. Good size and probably only in the midfield due to so many mids in the seniors. With development you could see him as a 3rd strong defender.

Jayden Foster: Just not up to it at present. Showed glimpses but has a long, long way to go. Not sure I am that optimistic.

Jaksch: Had his shnozzle flattened early in the game so was very easily identified by the bandage around his head from then on. Had plenty of opportunities to show his wares with the aggott spending so much time in the Dishlickers forward line, but failed. Looked so much better when he could create ie getting himself loose as an attacking option off the backline. When this happened he looked capable and made good decisions. For mine he's being played out of position. Should be groomed as a key forward - would have been a better option than Watson and Foster. There is something there to work with.

Fraser Russell: Beaten like all his mates but showed something. Like to see more of him.

Dillon Hyphen: Hopeless. Didn't see anything to enthuse about.

Clem Smith: As for Dillon Hyphen.

Thanks for the report Baggers.
On Fields, saw him let one go last week at Etihard in the last quarter and he got to the centre of the ground. It was massive

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Round 14 - Blues v Western Bulldogs (Aftermatch Aftermath)
Boekhurst - Am willing to give the kid a break as it's his first year but geez he made some howlers
Holman - Christ, can't understand the critics of this guy. I thought he did OK
Jamison - Good first up after so many weeks off. Did better in one game than Rowe  has in three.
Touhy - Thought he played his best game for the year.
Tutt - See Holman.
Cripps - Good until injured as was Everitt. In fact pretty sure Everitt's departure cost us the game. Hope the injury isn't too severe.
Graham - Fair, with a couple of costly errors, but we're still better with him in the side than not.
Henderson - Just not quite good enough at the moment. Goes missing for long periods I can see him trying his guts out but just misses too many half chances to have an impact.
Wood - Terrible. Played so well last week but he was putrid last night.
Murphy - Just stop trying to drill blokes with precision passes. They seem to end up in the hands of opposition players more often than not, AND at crucial times.
Simmo - Was  a bit "Murph" like with some of his decisions and disposal, but SO many credits in the bank we can forgive.
Bell/Curnow - What could these guys be if THEY COULD JUST KICK.
Kreuzer - Battled hard, as he always does, but not a good game.
Armfield - Playing reasonably well BUT apart from the missed chances, last quarter, 11 point down, ball kicked to the top of the square, Henderson backing back, STAY DOWN you idiot! That one really p!55ed me off.

So frustrating when you see the same old skill erors costing you a game. Sure the doggies were  bad but our stuff-ups were far worse than theirs (see the Casboult & Wood comedy routine)
Do we really have to play Hawthorn this year?

And finally, Caleb Daniel may have had a decent first up but I can't believe a guy that tiny will ever make it in the AFL. Watch this space.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: 2 in a row... Blues Blow past the Gold Coast
Agree about Wood ,tries his guts out every game.He is a great team man,and has a real love for the club.
Hope we keep him he deserves it ,much better than Warnock

Warnock isn't worthy enough to tie up Wood's bootlaces. Wood gives us so much more value than that spud. Can't imagine how Warnock would be around next year. I'm guessing if he was, he'd be on minimum wage and only as a backup. Effectively replacing Wood. who was recruited for that reason! How ironic.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Round 12: Carlton vs. Port Adelaide Post Bye pre game
Port have way too much to play for after last Friday nights disaster. They couldn't have hoped for a better match-up than to play us. They actually weren't that bad against Geelong but the cats pulled one out of the history books. Not sure they can continue that form.
Our boys now seem to give a fark and hopefully that will continue on this Saturday but I suspect we'll still go down by 10+ goals.
Yarran to return
If fit all of Gibbs, Jamison AND Thomas.

Probably look to give Armfield and Carazzo a rest. Neither of which will probably be around next year. Tutt and Menzel also but not for the same reason.
,
I'd love the club to play Byrne, but there's no dounbt he'll come back through the magoos.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Round 10: Carlton vs Adelaide Pre Game Palaver
Jesus......the way some people are banging on about Yarran's punishment - you'd think he was the second coming (pun intended). Has done next to diddly-squat for us this year and as for the "He's been handled badly...." - oh purlease, give me a frickin' break.

Can't wait to see The Kreuze running around again tomorrow btw. His presence could & should change the entire functionality of the team.....and in a good way.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: VFL Round #6: Northern Blues vs Essendon
Any idea what part of his game they don't rate? They must think he is a terrible footballer if players like Watson and Bootsma get more than 11 games to prove themselves.

Obviously I don't know the whole story but I don't like the sound of it, especially if he's contracted for another year.

Look, as I say it's just second-hand and I always take these stories with a grain of salt but his speed and foot skills were the two reasons given. Also as far as I'm aware it was only one individual in particular who leveled the criticism.
Pretty depressing I would imagine for the kid.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Geelong Predictably Smash the Blues - Post Game
Thought we would go down by 100+ and probably would have if Geelong didn't play so badly. Swans next week will absolutely obliterate us. Only highlights for me was Simmo's form and the fact that we played man on man football all night. What a breath of fresh air. I'd rather that for he rest of the year than the tripe we've been dishing up.
Warnock in again??? WTF. Will we never learn?
