Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Post Game Passion: AFL 2019 Rd 6: Carlton vs. Hawthorn
How good is Marc Murphy? Wow!

We should petition the club for a bronze statue of him outside the club in lieu of his courageous and skillful contributions over the past decade or so. I'd also like a never ending video loop on a screen below the statue showing him at his best. You know, things like:

- Avoiding all contact when he is presented with any opposition player large or small in his vicinity
- Shanking his kicks and missing every target by either kicking it over their head or missing either side by at least 3-4 metres
- Scrubbing a shot for goal along the ground when the opportunity presents itself to a kick a goal to win the game
- Looping his kicks so they take an eternity to reach the intended target giving the opposition ample time to spoil
- And my personal favourite, why kick a drop punt for goal from 35 metres directly in front when you can do a right foot banana and kick it out on the full. Show boating like the champion he is! He never misses an opportunity to show the world what he's got in that endless bag of tricks of his.

Ahhhh, classic Marc! Skills galore and loves to showcase them to all and sundry every week.

Thanks Marc! You're a wonder!

Check his stats.  He was in the top handful of players on the ground statistically,  kicked it 24 times of his 29 disposals,  worked his dot off, and gained a whopping 700+ metres which puts him in the elite category, and had 5 score involvements with 13 pressure acts.

Yes he muffed his last kick.  We had lost the game by then.  Players have no idea how much time is left and let's not pretend he was close to goal.  He had no room to measure that kick from roughly 40 out with pressure around him, and he's a soft target (pardon the pun).  I was livid with his match against port.  I'll be the first to chastise Murphy when its warranted and yesterday it wasn't a fair criticism.

This is what I hate about stats watchers. They re-write history to suit their narrative. Watch the game and see Murphy's lackluster tackling efforts and general commitment to the cause and then make a comment. Don't just look at his stats and say, gee he had 29 touches, a good day out in anyone's language.

I could get 29 touches if I ran around, freely with no tag mind you, and presented like he did getting those cheap kicks in the back line like he did. Then he'd provide a 10-15 metre kick to the wing and would select the easiest option, something that wouldn't necessarily generate anything of note for the team, but would definitely pad out his stat sheet. F##k me, watch the game not the stats!

His last kick was just the icing on the cake for a forgettable soft non-committal game like he normally provides, yet is lauded for. I just don't get it, what are you people seeing. Are you that disconnected from reality that you rely on stats to prove a players worth and contribution to a game?

Murph must be mentoring young Paddy....

So true. I'm starting to wonder whether Silvagni as head of recruiting is now a bust. Judge these selections:

SPS - majorly underwhelming nothing player
Dow - f##k me, Murphy and Gibbs level of turn over. Everything he touches turns to crap
O'Brien - what does he offer other than never hitting a target by over kicking it
Kennedy - Who? Is he ever fit?
C Curnow - Wow! Talk about believing you're own press. His nick name needs to be changed to the juggler. Never have I seen such a high draft pick other than Dow and Murphy double grab everything whenever the ball goes near him
Lang - yeah, it made me laugh when we traded for him too.
Plowman - a Backman guaranteed to have a minimum of two massive turn overs kicking across goal a game. Should be instructed to never kick the ball. Horrid!

His drafting seems to focus in on a player's ability to turn over the pill at will. Truly impressive and about time he is called out. I don't mind that he has traded out dead wood like Gibbs and others, but f##k me, with the volume of high draft picks he's had both here and the Giants, you gotta say there are a truck load of misses during his tenure at both clubs.

To be honest he's done marginally better than the previous pack of idiots and they at least snagged Cripps at 13.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: In Game Attitude: 2019 Rd 3: Carlton vs Sydney
What I want to know, is why is the club so good at drafting guys who simply don't have the basic skill set required to play the game.

F@cking Dow. I don't think one of his kicks spun correctly or hit a target. This is not the first time either. I was concerned by it in his first year, but it's continued on this year.

How can a pick 3 have basically no idea how to kick?  Doesn't surprise me considering the number of first round picks who we've drafted just can't kick. If it's not not Murphy or Gibbs when he was here, then it's Dow.

I get a horrible feeling Dow is another bust.

You’ve shown yourself in this post. Absolutely disgusting comment. If you watch the footage Marc was stuck under the ball for a long time and in no way did he shirk the contest.

I’m embarressed for you.

Go and support the suns

Did you even watch the first quarter? Go watch it again and watch captain soft cock do some of his best work. Stop looking at stats and start watching actions and skill level.

If we believe some of what is written on here, this supposed "soft c0ck" player attitude has persisted for at least a decade. Which means that apart from a few like Simmo, Murph, Krooz, many of the "originators" are now long gone. Our list has also turned over several times in these years. All coaches, recruiters, football department people and other support staff have also changed. Yet supposedly this problem persists ? All because all of a little bloke who couldn't scare a school girl ? Gee, he must pretty tough if he can hold influence over other players, coaches, recruiters etc.

I call BS. Massive, massive BS.

As I said, common theme since he has been at the club. Yet he is lauded as a club great and an A grade player by some here and in the media. Give me a break!

But our lack of vicious aggression is evident, while our attack on the football was grand, it's the Hodge factor we lack. Example, Cotchin does his best to hospitalise Cripps in a marking contest, we defend with gentile spoils and shepherds. Of course I realise it's men versus boys still, but we are not all boys. The irony is hearing our coach express concerns about Rance having watched him regularly "stumble" and collide knees first into forwards.

I've stated before and there is nothing from last night that makes me change this opinion, we play football like our primary objective is to leave the field safely for the trip home, at AFL level all that does is make us easy roadkill for the vultures.

You can thank Marc for setting the finest of examples during his tenure at the club. All together now, THAAAAANNNNKKKKSSS MAAAAARRRRCCCC!

Seriously, this is becoming embarrassing watching this football club. Every year I hope that I see some sort of improvement, only for it to be flushed down the toilet after the first few games of the season.

People will say, well if you can't see improvement you weren't seeing the green shoots or Sam Walsh or Will Setterfield. Jesus, that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about blokes being paid hundreds of thousands of dollars a year who simply can't do the basics of the f^&king game. I'm talking about chest marks, field kicking, hand balling and kicking for goal.

I mean for f^&ks sake, what do these d^&kheads do all summer? We dropped about 8 easy chest marks and mind you, this was from a myriad of players, SPS, CC, Cuningham etc. Why? How many out of the full? 6 or 7? It's like we're watching an U12s match who were playing the U18s. They were handling the ball like it was a bar of soap, yet Bitchmond didn't have any issues.

Why when we hand ball to a team mate it's always to their feet and never to advantage where they don't have to break stride? Kicking into the forward line is more by hope than by any design. Why can't our forwards ever get separation from their defender? Yet the opposition seem to never have an issue doing so with ours? Fuuuuuucckkk! Is it too hard to expect these simple things are a non negotiable when it comes to identifying players? 20 years in the cellar, you'd think we could identify at least a few players with some skill.

Charlie Curnow needs to stop drinking his own bath water and getting some skills. I don't think I've ever seen a player other than Marc Murphy go through the motions like he did last night. And on to my perennial favourite whipping boy Marc. How soft is this bloke? I mean really, he turns it over so often during a game that's it's almost like he's a member of the opposing team. When he does kick it in the general direction of a team mate it's always got too much air time or it's on top of their head. Such a hack!

The sad part is and I'm not sure why, most of you laud him as being skillful and an invaluable part of the club. He is one of the main reasons we are where we are as a club. The lack of on field leadership from a supposed senior statesman for the club is glaring not to mention the pi55 poor attack on the football at virtually every contest he's involved in does not bode well for the young kids when they see that. I feel for the likes of Cripps who leaves it all out there every week and bleeds for this club and likewise Judd before him.

Marc has been privileged to play with these two blokes and yet has learned nothing. Wow! Don't get me wrong, I'm not expecting him to be Cripps, but I expect him to have presence and go when it's his turn to go, which all too often he fails to do. Young Sam Walsh has more impact on the game and gives more of himself and that was his first game.

I know alot of you will mention his second or third quarter, not sure which, where he kicked a goal and actually got involved in the game. OK, fair enough, but ask yourself, where was he the other 3 quarters and previous 12 years. I think is says alot about the bloke when you guys didn't even have a thread for Marc congratulating him on his 250th. Secretly you think the same, yet don't want to be the one to "shoot Bambi".

So it looks like another long year and mountain of disappointments coming up. It's getting to the point where I'm not sure why I put myself though watching the St Kilda of the 21st century week in week out. Yes people, that's who we are. 5 spoons in 20 years is not only St Kilda like, it's now Carlton like. Never thought I would ever say that, but there you have it, the club is officially a joke.

Don't get up in my grill and say that's an over reaction after a round one loss, I'm telling you, this is no aberration. This is situation normal at the Carlton Football Club and has been for the last 20 years. 2019 will be no different.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: 2018 Rd 15: Post Game Pain: Carlton vs Brisbane
i've lost interest in footy.
I was optimistic last year we'd improve, but for what ever reason, the impact of 1 solitary win, does my head in. I find
myself watching other games more so and loathe to watch us play. Its depressing and i've almost forgotten what excitement footy brings, finals, rivalries etc

What disturbs me more is, we are in big trouble in terms of depth, experience across the whole club structure and we reject to apply for an additional 1st round draft pick.
If we're not suitable candidates, i dont know what is. WE need help

Stop sooking it up. This is what got us here in the first place, that sense of doing things the easy way by tanking and quick fixes. I've said this previously, but the first time I have been actually proud of the club for the last 20 years was when this was announced. It was the first time someone at the club said, no we got ourselves into this and we'll work our way out.
