I'm blueycarlton just an occasional poster on this and other forums. Both my parents and their parents were Carlton supporters, so the family's allegiance goes back into the 19th century. My dad first took me to Princes Park in the late 1950's. He grew up not far from the ground and I've been told he knew a few people at the club back then. So my children did not have any choice when it comes to Carlton. When I was 11 or 12 I used to get bouts of tonsillitis and be off school for a week or so and our doctor on a home visit brought a copy of The Carlton Story pub. 1958 to read. I was amazed at the history of the club. So many, many years later when I stumbled onto the newly created Blueseum, I was in blue heaven, and as no-one was doing the Pre VFL section I jumped in.
So now I'm heavily involved with the Carlton history web-site, Blueseum (www.blueseum.org) Blueseum has a bio page on every Carlton player from 1864 onwards, more than 2100 players, plus Reserve and Under 19 grade players. The site currently has over 40,000 images including many team photos dating from 1868 onwards. Pre VFL Image pages, and year by year Image Galleries from 1897. Year by year details with most match details 1864-1896 and then round by round pages for each year from 1897 onwards. Stories about Princes Park, articles, memorabilia, membership tickets, etc. etc.
It's a real treasure trove of all things Carlton.
To all you Carlton barrackers out there, volunteers are most welcome to contribute to Blueseum.
Yours too is a great story blueycarlton. Thanks for sharing and the Blueseum reminder. Our club has such a rich history that we can all feel proud of.
Can't Cripps wear a helmet that has padding along the chin strap as protection/precaution. But I suppose we have to weigh up what is this game worth? A shot at the finals? Will we go backwards if we lose? Will Crippa be worse off if he plays? ...Etc
The helmet is a good point. IIRC Murphy wore one post fractured jaw. I think we then had a little winning streak. He joked about wearing it regardless of need if it helped us win I guess it also depends on whether it's upper or lower jaw. I'm not sure what Murphy or Cripps have.
I'd agree we need to bring in some mature players...Bombers think they have the physical advantage over us and I expect them to go hard on our young blokes so I wouldnt be putting anymore newbie kids in the team and I think another taller player is also necessary...either Jones or Jaksch. Kerridge on Merrett reads ok to me and I'd have E.Curnow on Heppell...
I'm with EB. I'd like to see Palmer in to add some grunt.
Welcome aboard pominoz. Your choice of football club is exemplary Hopefully you'll be able to buddy up with some of our passionate supporters. Have fun. I look forward to hearing your comments.
And on Cripps kicking, anyone who suggests its poor should look at the delivery to SPS who subsequently kicked his first goal of his career. It was Diesel like.
Now that made me excited. Very excited. There folks lies our future and what a complimentary set of qualities. Not to mention our other youngsters who look to be developing nicely.
Fast but a little selective about when he uses it.
Due to his history of injuries and lack of ps, I'd guess he's still got to build his tank. If he is selective like you say. I hope he selects carefully then make his opponent look like he's standing still
@rocky Thanks for your match report. Surprisingly similar to my TV view.
Re: Finally, and I can't believe no ones mentioned this by now but did those umpires give it to us today or what? Never seen so many tackles laid by our blokes go unrewarded. Pathetic.
I thought this, and swore at the box many a time in disbelief Didn't mention it coz I thought it was my Navy bias at work. Somehow feels a little comforting to know it's a view shared. Not sure what the free differential was, but my money's on D's winning that stat by more than chance.
Matty Wright take a bow. Now that's skill and leadership in an inspirational little package. Loved Daisy's hanger, just like old times.
I should add. I thought Crippa's kicking looks on the up. In terms of hand/foot ratio and effectiveness. This was another very pleasing aspect of today. Imagine if he can start to increase his effect by foot. I'm starting to think (not that I'd have a clue) his broken leg may have hampered the development of his wheels. We may have exacerbated this with our premature over reliance on the youngster, due to a disastrous list....
Thanks again for a sterling report Mr Baggers. Much appreciated by us who can't get there.
Great to hear Bb putting in, maybe the penny has dropped. Will look forward to Gussy and young Gallucci staking their claim for a call up. Williamson and Polson will be bonuses if they continue to improve.
In general I was thrilled that we were so competitive for so long. Obviously that was lacking early and again late. The knock on was we were doing twice as much, fatiguing, and making brain and body booboos. It didn't help a couple of players went off for medical attention, and Crippa and Rowe coped head knocks. On Rowe, another strong game virtually nullifying a star forward. Crippa, similarly, is building every quarter. You'd never guess his limited PS.
Sammo. Welcome to the big league. He looks so at home and now has his first major on the board. Now that was something to savour.
Smedts and Pickett were good. They need some consistency and will grow quickly Imo.
The defense was great in general. Gee McCreadie is looking like a star in the making. Early days I know, but looked like he'd really learned from his errors last week.
Big Kruez was solid again. If he keeps this up, he might give us a sneaky advantage. We all know our Achilles heel up forward and in the middle. Add some quality in the middle (Fyfe might pay us to rescue him from the stinking ship) and ease in our young forwards and we're on the way.
I hope the sook and the highly respected Lewis get what they deserve. Lowly indeed. I though Rowe looked dazed, hope he wasn't concussed.
I agree that it was the one that got away, but think we were honest and courageous with some limitations. No doubt our youngsters will replace them in time, when they're good and ready.
