Robert Heatley Stand / Re: ELIMINATION FINAL : Ninth Beats Ninthmond (Ha Ha Ha Ending)
Haven't seen today's replay as yet, but what was evident being at the game was the amount of ground he covered, and number of contests he got to, very very good game.. Last week his attack on the ball including his ground work was very good in second half. I remember his attack at a critical stage in that last q when the game was in the balance was critical.

I thought his game against WC /Cox earlier in the season was a ripper and better than his game today, his game today was very good, his games last week and the week before were also very good.
Cannot agree on that, previous weeks he did stuff all outside of the tap work.

This week he was 1000% better contesting the ball once it hit the ground!

His second half against Port last week was influential in our comeback.

I reckon Wanock has put on some muscle and getting more aggressive and confident...

Was his best game for the club by some margin!

And then there was one.....Essendon = gone, then the Pies = gone, now the Tigers = gone, we're the last of the 'big four' standing.....who would've thunk it a month ago!?

Apart from the Friday night crappola, possibly the most enjoyable weekend of footy I've ever witnessed.

So as it stands at present, our worst case scenario is we end up 6th.. Best case yet to unfold.. I think it's fair to conclude that 2013 is an improvement on 2012.

Nick Duigan is a very very good footballer. Average players just don't so what he did today in finals.

Gibbs kept us in it in the second term.

Murphy industrious from the start exactly what we needed from him when it was hard to get the pill early.

Waite is the one who really impressed me. Looked difficult for him early but really worked his way into the game.

Then there's that man Judd. Turned it on when it counted the most. Literally swung the game and gave the rest of the team belief. I saw when it happened as well it was halfway through the second term and we looked to be wilting and he laid a crunching tackle which really stopped the Tiges in their tracks. I really felt the boys lifted from that time on.

Duigan and Bell were both  hard at the contest.. Like last week Duigans body work at critical stages was telling (goals aside)

Do we play with the flair that got us into the final or go the boundary... Will be interesting to see.

We play our best Football when we're 5 goals down....

Lets give Richmond a 5 goal head start so we can attack from the 1st bounce  8)
Lets stress test our hearts again, I say rope-a-dope like PA. Give em a start, make em run em selves ragged, then we start throwin haymakers and come over the top...said no one ever!

Reckon there's something in this... While I'm not suggesting we actually sit back and wait till we're 5 goals down before we get our A into G, its clear that something clicks when ever that scenario exists. I'm sure part of it is between the ears, but there's got to be something more tangible to it. What else happens when we are behind?, is it purely an instructional thing or is it a reshuffling of personnel to different positions that causes the route to change from boundary hugging to corridor?. I usually get to emotionally caught up in the game to notice the effect of personnel positional reshuffling, but on sat couldn't help but noticing Yazz's positional change to midfield brought with it a natural tendency to attack through corridor.

Yes, Murph took a big step forward in the leadership stakes tonight.

No doubt...both he and Gibbs were challenged by the coach and delivered. Murphy looked better down forward and his finishing was important.
Credit also to Yarran who played very well and his work was very classy at times....

Credit must go to Malthouse who really put the onus on the leaders and even Duigan I thought was a valuable player...

Big question is can this same group of players who won the game for us tonight led by Murphy deliver again next week....

Come on EB, I don't expect sycophantic comments from you.

Hopefully Malthouse now realises that playing Yarran off halfback is critical to our success, as is having Duigan put his big frame into the contest.

If Malthouse is as good a coach as some would have us believe, he will throw his pre-conceived ideas about structures and favourites out the window and build on what worked in previous seasons.

We're still a way off a genuine finals contender but there is huge potential if we can retain Betts, play Yarran and Walker in their best positions, pick up a genuine KPP and get at least one of our rucks to win the ball around the ground.  Encouraging risk taking football as Hawthorn plays wouldn't go astray but that may be a 'bridge too far' or our rather conservative coach.

Finally, I'm leading my former workplace's footy tipping by 3 coming in to this round . . . and I tipped Port Adelaide  :(  It could cost me dollars but I don't mind  8)

DJ...not flattering anyone  to buy any favours or changing my opinions over one game just giving credit where its due to the individuals who won the game.... a win is a win and someone must have done something good to achieve the result.

As I said the challenge is there for the players I mentioned to do it again....am I sold on Murphy as captain ..No...Gibbs as a A grade matchwinner...No... Duigan to keep his place on the list..No
and while I will give Malthouse another 12 months there is nothing to suggest he has improved this team as yet or is just another Pagan collecting his super.

The three amigo's forward line wont win us a flag, we need decent KP forwards....prefer Yarran on the wing...

If your assessment is correct EB, why has it taken Malthouse an entire season to "challenge" Murphy, Gibbs, Duigan and other leaders?

I don't believe Malthouse did anything different, other than perhaps swallowing a little pride and accepting that the previous coach had worked out the best positions for a few players.  My take is that some of the players - particularly Murphy, Gibbs, Yarran, Betts, Duigan, Garlett and Walker - took it upon themselves to show that it hasn't been a wasted season.

I agree with you that the three amigos shouldn't all be on the forward line; Yarran should be running off half back and Betts and Garlett have to provide a greater midfield contribution.  A KPP is a must have for next season and I'd love to see a Stevie J type forward/midfielder in navy blue.  I'm not convinced that Menzel has a place in our best 22 and I don't think that Kreuzer and Warnock can form an effective ruck partnership.

If you had to pick one out the 2 for next weeks game (Warnock or Kruiz) who would you go with?

Let's be clear on one thing. We need to assume the under dog status from the get go, or we're f@cked.  The Tiglets want a cocky Carlton and they will use the scum penalty to emphasise our unworthiness. Lets bow and praise the mighty RFC for allowing us to challenge them on their crusade to become AFL premiers. Then smash them on the park!!! >:D

Good point.... Noted

What would be ironic is if we were to knock over the Tigers in their first final for many years after finishing 9th.

Ironic indeed, and in my case there's some major crap stirring riding on the back of that irony. Brother-in-law is a die hard ninethmond fan. I only just started winding down from bagging him after our win a few weeks ago. The mind games start again tomorrow night at family Father's Day dinner.

Who said Murphy didn't have any leadership in him???

What a final quarter!!!!

We finally lift for a MUST WIN situation! An 8 goal final quarter!!

I lost my Dad last December, so this is going to be my first Father's Day without him but I know for a fact that he is getting positively wasted up there in heaven right now!

Glad the boys delivered for you nath :)
