Lemmey is young enough to make it still. We've had talls before. They usually kick on. I think lemmey is going largely because he developing physically but not really showing improvement in his game.
Good to see that some of our players can deliver the ball accurately by foot when they are under limited (or no) pressure, which is what the Bummers offered for much of the match - even though we still managed to serve up many mis-kicks when we put ourselves under pressure - Hollands is one who is guilty of this.
Wasn't impressed by Evans in his early games for us but his ability to kick goals has clearly elevated him above Fogarty (who misses too many sitters) in my opinion.
I think one of the great stories out of this train-wreck of a year is George Hewett.
He was absolutely sensational yesterday, and has consistently performed right throughout the year. Would have to be a mile in front of our B&F.
Not taking anything away from George but he took full advantage of increased playing time (especially in the midfield role) resulting from from the club discarding Matt Kennedy, the reduced availability of Walsh and comparative down-year by Cripps
As for Weiters, he needs to trust his other defenders and worry about his man. Too often he splits the two key fwds hoping to 1/2 cover both and it fails. One of the commentators last week suggested he might have to drop a few kgs over the summer to get some mobility, I agree.
He was able to get away with it when he was partnered with Jones because Jones had closing speed to burn but, regardless, Weiters doesn't have the acceleration or mobility that he used to have.
Amazing what a difference it makes when the opposition rucks fail to impose themselves at centre bounces.
TDK was largely untouched (looked more like last year) and even O'Keeffe was able to palm the ball to advantage without a problem - hence lots of centre clearances and time to kick the ball to teammates who were not outnumbered.
Outstanding first half - pathetic third quarter - better final quarter but still junk-football.
Did anyone else notice that Cinc seems to be carrying an injury? Stuck with short steps rather than striding out? Hip? Groin? Favouring his left leg just a bit.
This year I reckon he has lost a couple of yards and doesn't accelerate as well as he used to - in fact, I believe his running posture has also changed and that this is affecting his acceleration.
I found it hard to tell at any point who had who. Seemed to see both at various stages. At times Young or Weitering would peel off to attack the ball and then you'd see the other trailing King to the ball and assume that was the match-up.
I understand it's all about matchups and sometimes freeing Weitering up by not always matching him against the best forward. When we used to play Geelong it was nearly always Weitering v Hawkins. And Weitering rarely lost that contest. Rarely was it Weitering v Cameron so our 'second best defender' got to run around with Cameron who often did significant damage. It may have been judged that Weitering would have been less value against a very mobile Cameron and Hawkins would also have got off the leash against a lighter opponent...I just found it a little strange
Weitering's positioning was terrible last night, I thought he put pressure on his team mates especially Young. I think Weiters tries to do too much, worry more about your man who is getting off the chain and let the others worry about theirs. Too often it looked like he was trying mind King and Reid and was minding neither in the end. Thats what it looked like to me and a mate of mine.
Viewers who reckon that King kicked all of his goals on Young must have had their eyes as closed as Reiwolt - Weitering hung Young out to dry on at least two occasions by switching coverage so late that Young had no chance to get close to King and there was another occasion when Weitering trailed King as he led up and around before eventually failing to even contest the mark when King made a straight forward lead up the guts.
Best game I have seen from Evans - lots of defensive pressure and 2 goals - possibly suited by the wet and windy conditions but I don't know if we see those conditions often enough to justify keeping him in 2026
Could have played OKeefe, Boyd, Cincotta (or anybody) but nah let's go with the same group that haven't done it for two years now. But hey, keep doing the same old sh... and you have to get a good result eventually? And the fitness bloke needs to get ready for the end of season review by brushing up his CV, he'll need it.
A lot of people hate on Harry but he laid 10 tackles and brought the ball to ground a lot. Needed some support which was missing once we lost the tall back.
Was more productive in applying pressure than Curnow has been most weeks but was still disappointing.
