Robert Heatley Stand / Re: How does Crippa rank among the panoply of Carlton greats?
There are two 'one club' champions who led both a team and a club out of the dark days into success......John Nicholls did, and hopefully Patrick Cripps still can. Juddy came in from elsewhere as a savior and gave us something to turn up and watch, while Sticks led a champion team through a purple patch. Doull great, Jezza great, Johnno great, etc etc but Nicholls and Cripps in tough times said jump on my back, let's go. Nicholls 1  Cripps 2 (if he can snag another JNM and a premiership, it would be a dead heat!!)

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: AFL Rd 20 2026 Post Game Prognostications Carlton vs Gold Coast at Marvel
Nick Austin take a bow again.... Pick 45 is 'burning it up!' About time we found a diamond in the back end of the draft, and Austin did it.

Never had an issue with the individuals he picked.......but any danger you could get a balanced list together?

Meanwhile we have Kemp up forward who is too scared to take a shot at goal......and Young who we've shopped around but nobody wanted.
Doesn't fill you with confidence in that area now does it.

Poor old Lewis Young could play like Kouta in the last quarter of the 99 Preliminary Final and he'd still cop it. Played all over the ground, 18 possessions, 6 score involvements, a couple of clearances and almost 200 m gained..... almost identical to Mac Andrews who was considered on of the Sun's best and was on the ground 20% longer than Young. Probably need to ask his team mates how they rate his performance based on the role he was given which might be more valid than us in the bleachers.

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: AFL Rd 18 2026 Post Game Prognostications Carlton vs Hawthorn
Freo, Hawthorn, Geelong get smashed in recent weeks and 'it's the loss they needed to have'. We get touched up after 7 straight wins and the guy can't coach, the team is crap, no game plan etc, etc!!  Shocking conditions for the first half and we didn't adapt, granted. Tried our guts out in a quarter of slug fest football when anything in the forward 50 was a bonus..... only to have the absolute wind taken out of our sails by the worst 50m penalty of the decade! A day of learning.

The Sports Desk / Good Bye Serena..... Go Sulk Somewhere Else!
Thank goodness that circus is over! Where was the 'gracious in defeat'? Where were the words of encouragement to a 20 yo who idolised you? Where was the 'courage' to answer questions after a defeat (it's always been very easy after a win!!)? Where was the acknowledgement that you were actually defeated by a better player? The attitude hasn't changed over 28 years of Grand Slam tennis.....why should it change now?? (Give me Rafa any day!!)

Robert Heatley Stand / Re: Run Home
If Freo are 2 games clear on top at Round 24, they will rest half of their team rather than risk injury.  Maybe an unexpected W.

Surprised the predictor has us losing to both the Saints and the Dogs - pretty sure we win one of those at least.

Freo won't rest anyone in the last round, more likely to happen across Rounds 20-23. They won't want players off the park for 2 weeks in a row.

R17: Richmond, MCG W
R18: Hawthorn, MCG L
R19: Collingwood, MCG W
R20: Gold Coast, Marvel Stadium W
R21: Brisbane, Marvel Stadium L
R22: St Kilda, Marvel Stadium L
R23: Western Bulldogs, Marvel Stadium L
R24: Fremantle, Marvel Stadium L
Predicted finish: 10th (10-13)

HS predictor. I would argue that if we are considering ourselves a chance for a top 10 spot, we should be winning at least one of our last for games. Plus who wants to go into September losing four in a row!
