A seven-goal haul from Carlton youngster Harry Lemmey proved to be the difference as the Blues won by 30 points.
Veteran Sam Docherty continued to stake his claims for a senior recall after gathering 39 touches and six marks.
Mid-Season Draft fancy Liam McMahon slotted another four majors, while Alex Cincotta returned from a hip injury.
Docherty will come straight in now even though most Blues watchers agree his best days are behind him.
Lemmey has a blinder but that is all you will see on his resume, would the selectors be gutsy enough to give him a senior game ??
Cincotta needs more than one VFL game to show he has fully recovered from his injury plus his fitness level is up where it needs to be. Chances are, they will rush him back in desperation though.
Following the passing of Robert Walls this week, if our guys don't come out breathing fire for the whole match then they should be ashamed of themselves.
St.Kilda play the worst brand of football and drag the opposition teams down to their crap level making the game rather unwatchable.
So many errors especially 'out on the full', really bad.
No player was a standout for the four quarters apart from McKay, others had some cameos but it was a complete sh1tshow IMO.
With all the injuries, was expecting to get pipped just at the end but thankfully the Saints rubbish gameplan played into ours and we were able to grind out the win.
Weitering had an uncharacteristic first half, made some shocking blues but picked it up in the second whilst Silvagni was nearly our best player all night.
Curnow looked like he was going to put on a clinic (the one hand mark and goal were particularly impressive) but put on Harry Potter's invisibility cloak after 1/4 time. Watching him closely, he just doesn't run hard back to our forwardline to create a target, just trots along like he doesn't have a care in the world.
The four small forwards (Evans, Durdin, Motlop & White) were non-events IMO kicking just one goal between them, we can't keep persisting with them.
Can't see us being any better than mid-table (9th or 10th), we are just not good enough which is a sad reality.
We are going out with a 23 that consists of.... Weitering, Silvagni, McGovern, Haynes, Young. How many (3rd) tall backs can you fit in 1 side. I would've thought Young would have to miss.
I don't know why this pre-match thread has been turned into a List Management but anyways ............
For the record, I have never read so many offbeat theories in my life.
On top of that, we are not in the "depth" business !!
If you want depth, then you create it by bringing in better credentialled players into the top half/third of the list thereby forcing players on the fringe (who may be getting a game) further down the pecking order.
And lastly .......... "best 22" means absolute jacksh1t, look at Norths best 22, they can't even blow out a candle.
If you want to be a genine contender, then you need to create a "competitive 22" that is the equivalent of (or better than) the top 6-8 clubs.
Being in the best 22 players on a craphole list means nothing and never will, it's a bottom of the barrel mentality.
The last two weeks we have been at a holiday camp, I don't count them as anything more than training drills even though I did have a genuine sense of concern for the NM match)
This week we are back in the saltmine playing the Cats, another loss (even a hard fought loss) will not be considered acceptable nor tolerated.
They have to do a hell of a lot to rekindle my faith & belief, I can't buy into any short-term sugar-fix, I want long-term results & consistency
Dropping this game will just show once again that we are in fact, frauds !!
