Michael Gleeson in the Age suggested this for the whiteboard..................Strengths: terrific on our terms. Front running. Celebrations. Offensive running.
Weaknesses: Handballing, kicking, marking, tackling when things aren’t on their terms. Defensive running. Insularity. Leadership. Speed. Depth of talent and class.
Kennedy gets best clubman then is gone, Hewitt wins the B&F then doesn't get a game after North. Voss said he will change, yeah right. Keep Voss my arse.
Moir is still only a kid. Just turned 21, hasn't even played 15 games yet.
He may well have a long career and i expect it to be similar to someone like Houlihan who will constantly be berated for the way he 'looks' when he plays.
I was surprised to see that Harry did not use his usual 'around the corner' technique when kicking for goal from set shots. In some cases the kicks were from the left hand side of the goals so that was understandable but there was one (or two) where he kicked a straight-forward drop punt from position/s where he would have usually kicked 'around the corner'. They were quite straight kicks that didn't miss by much but the fact that he didn't go 'around the corner' suggested that he might have been acting under instructions to not do so.
Thanks RR. As I said was not at the game and with recent history of his kick round the corner close in maybe the club have said enough is enough. About time if so!!!!
Maybe thats true but he kicked 1 goal 4 or 5. It didn't work. PS On goal kicking Josh Daicos said that he was watching the ball drop and commented that it was off, he didn't have to look where it went. Who teaches this stuff?
Therer are two phases to our game. We're ok at the first which is contended with fresh players. In the second phase we are dismal, thats when the big slow bodies in the center really hurt us and the opposition have known that for a number of years.
The coaching staff have't got a plan for that second phase other than to try to repeat the first and it never works, thats on Voss not the slow players. We need those change up a gear players, some who have done some bench time and are fresh for the onslaught while the big body players do some bench time and go foward in Cripps case. Thats the time to send Harry back and Young/Derkson forward. Derkson was lost out there yesterday.
Lord can't handball effectivly in close. I saw it last year and again last night. A combination of strength and technique and he plays along side the best in the business.
Khawaja spoke very well about growing up a brown kid amongst mostly white older generation racist players. It wasn't until Gillys generation that he began to feel apart. He said that it was the parents of the kids he played that were the worst. He's done very well to get through that to become the player he is.
By day 2 Archer was cooked, give him back to back tests and some long spells and he'll be bowling as fast as me. I loved what Boycott said about the prime of the English batting lineup dissolved in the time it took to make a pot of tea. Wonderful knock from Head and I'm glad I watch it.
Interesting looking at our own Jim Park voting. Silvagni was in the votes most weeks he played, but there were a couple of weeks where he was right at the top of the votes for some very good jobs on dangerous key forwards. So there's no doubt that while it lasted the experiment was working.
One of the things that often gets people a bit confused is that SOS's 'conflict of interest' over his kids was never about favouritism for his boys. It's not hard to be professional about that type of thing. I can even believe SOS probably did take himself out of decisions to pick the boys up. It can sometimes even work to the detriment of the son (or daughter) if your Dad is in charge of an important aspect like list managing as they might be harder on you to deflect criticism.
No, the issue has always been how that coach or List-man deals with the other players in the side. How would it feel if your Dad was making career ending decisions about your close friends and team-mates I'm guessing that over the years Jack would probably have heard "You're Dad is a fKn prick" more than once. Even as list manager for another side where he's plucking quality players from your side it would be more than uncomfortable. I can understand that as being a situation Jack would have found difficult to deal with over his career. It's possibly caused conflict with other players and coaches. He may have even overheard conversations about his dad that upset him. Was it a big factor in his decision? I think that is a much better reason for leaving than "I'm looking for a bit of success"
If Jack ends up at St Kilda then I think you could put that argument to rest.
