Well just watched the Chris Scott media conference post match... and... you'd have thought we were lucky to win, and we only really won because the Pussycats just had 'one of those games' where their mistakes and failures allowed us in.
I see it a little differently, Christopher. If you apply enough effective, sustained pressure to just about any club, they just might make uncustomary mistakes. And if you've got some serious talent on the paddock who can capitalise on those errors...
Rather disingenuous post game summary, Christopher! Scoreboards seldom lie.
I just finished listening to that too, and i can see where you got that from, but i disagree.
He gave us some kudos. Talked about our pressure and inside ball winning ability. His issue seems to be the errors that came under no pressure. There were plenty of turnovers that he can be referring too. He also eluded to some players in the guts that were sub-par, unusually, that hurt them.
I actually didn't mind what he said and was pretty honest without being revealing.
14 goals 10 to 12 goals 4, thought they were far more efficient than us, we just gusted it out and would have been stiff to lose. We should gain some great team confidence from that game and with that will come greater composure and connection.
I don't revel in the media pile on, but gees it's nice for the heat to come onto another club than ours. I can't believe how they've piled into Norf.... Perhaps we were better than people thought? But one things for sure, a rebuild isn't 3-5 years, it's closer to 10, especially if you don't get everything right, like drafting a player who nicks off home as fast as possible
Relying on a messiah coach to turn things around is rarely the way to go, particularly if your list management is poor.
Preaching to the choir here mate, we've all seen how that goes first hand.
There is no doubt that this week will be a much greater test of where we actually sit. But don't totally discount the last two weeks as an indicator.
Mediocre sides struggle to put away sides like West Coast and North. Good sides 'crush' them 71 and 82 points probably qualify as 'crushings'.
Agree, you can’t ignore our improved form irrespective of who we played, we looked much more cohesive and go into this weeks match with much more belief.
Apart from the W there were little things to be happy about, Doc looked better, Motlop took a run in the middle and got some touches, the younger boys looked to be finding their feet. Downside was how easily we got opened up in the middle in particular in the first half. Still plenty of improvement needed but a step in the right direction.
A couple of folks have commented on Motlop's turn in the centre. He did look OK and involved. He has been in there a couple of times in the past but he showed a bit today, nothing dramatic, but worth persisting with it at times.
Good for his confidence to get his hand on it and run, Durdin and Fogs will play the small forward role. Not sure who comes in for Mackay and Kemp, suspect it will be Young and Moir again.
In pre-match, some asked what happens if we win by 10 goals, 5 goals, less than 5 goals or (heaven forbid) lose.
For me the only important bit was the 'w' to gain some confidence - as long as we don't get over confident as a result.
Didn't see any of the game, heard bits on the radio - doesn't sound as if it was a great game. Unfortunate to lose Kemp and Harry.

One thing i'd like to consider changing up is how we structure our forwardline.
I get it, small forwards = pressure. We love pressure. We need pressure. You can never have too much pressure
.....or can you?
Perhaps we sacrifice some pressure that we get from a small forward running around harrassing and substitute it with some good old fashioned scoreboard pressure instead.
Why don't instead of picking an Evans who 'applies pressure' we pick a Moir, he kicks goals. Ultimately, its not who has the highest amount of pressure that wins the game, its who has the most about of total points when the final siren goes.
Pick players that can beat their opponent in one on one contests up forward. Pick players who can mark the ball inside 50. Pick players who can kick goals.
If we have 6 forwards and they beat their opponent more often than not, then we win the game. We know our mids will get it forward. Yes, the supply inside F50 hasn't been great.....but if we had better forwards, that wouldn't matter as much.
Look at Zac Williams in his return to form over the past 18 months as a small forward. He kicked goals and made something out of nothing. Look at all the love for Moir in his 2 quarters he's played. Why? He makes something out of nothing and kicks goals.
Find players who do that.
We focus so much on 'keeping the ball inside our forward half with pressure' Whats the point if we don't score. If we get the ball in there slightly less, but kick more goals, then that is a winning recipe is it not?
Well said Kruddler, completely agree. I would be playing Moir because he is athletic and can beat his man and set up or kick goals. He is the type of player that can unsettle defences. Time to shake things up a bit in the forward line with our small/medium players. We are way too predictable atm.
Moir doesn’t have the fitness to run out a game I reckon. Cameos are one thing, but competing for 120 minutes is his challenge. He has the tricks we desperately need but needs to earn his spot. The sooner the better!
Cannot believe what's going on with selection. I'm speechless
The outs make sense to me, Lucas was physically spent and not able to run out the game last week while Cooper Lord has been way off the pace for the last 2 games, not a knock on the long term future of either lad.
However, when you have the small forwards we have who will be non-contributors, you'd be better off starting kemp.....or cincotta...or anyone.
Overall i think our team balance is about right, i just dislike our forwardline/bench.
Brisbane beat us last year because of their smalls, not their talls. We helped lose the game by going in too tall last time. We need to pressure their smalls/runners We need to hold them accountable. Someone like Cincotta does exactly that.
Cincotta on the bench is our way of saying to Brisbane ‘there will be a late change, you just have to work out who it will be’, no way he doesn’t play
I know he breaks down and it’s hard to risk in a final. But same can be said about Orasio, and Durdin was no where near the level yesterday either.
I think Martin, if he plays 4 quarters, adds a bit of class that’s needed.
Would’ve preferred Fogarty but not available.
FWIW I’m all for trading Martin at seasons end. Or delisting.
Disappointing because a fit Martin is a great addition to our forward line bringing much needed x-factor, Moir may bring this in time but isn't fit enough to do it for 4 quarters at the moment (according to Voss). Martin's injury history will see him yield very little at the trade table.
I don't care it's obvious why we lost, we played all over the Aints early, had double the inside F50s and went to the break behind on the scoreboard.
Yep, we lacked composure and connection, a better team would have feasted on us, but we were playing St Kilda and had a chance to win the game. I must say I’m bitterly disappointed with the result because we were better than them in the last quarter and couldn’t make it stick, players will be shattered, would have loved the ball in Moir’s hand for that last shot at goal to ice the game. Not sure how we turn the emotion around should Port get over Freo, but we’ll have 2 weeks to sort that out should it happen.
