To be honest, we should not win this week. We have half a team fit and almost nothing to spare in the VFL. We have guys who usually play very well against the Cats out, not to return until 2015 and a number of guys whose futures are questionable. We are 13th on the ladder and can't really afford to win any more games: to be brutally honest, I'd love to Dogs to win again and put us back to 14th so we get batter draft choices.
However, if the Cats think like that for a moment against us, they will be in for the shock of their miserable 9 lives!
At the moment we appear to have bought into what Malthouse is trying to sell and we are playing as well as we can with our list limitations. And we appear to lift against the pernicious pussies. Last time we were robbed, simple as that. And we have never beaten this mob at Etihad, having experienced some of the most suspect defeats in League history there. The fact that we have lost 12 times out of 12 at Etihad should put Geelong in the 'box seat'. However.....
It will be an interesting game at Etihad and don't be surprised if the game is close again.
We will obviously have to be on our game for 4Qs for this one and I think MM would be very keen for a win, despite any draft pick implications. We are now all about establishing the culture and approach for 2015 so he will want us to go all out with whatever players we can muster.
Tall order but who knows. I will be there.
I agree. We are trying to win, no matter what the cost, to set up the culture Malthouse wants. I have no problems with that. Winning does good things for my brain chemistry. I need more dopamine in my life.
I will be there, no doubt. And I would love to put these pussies in their place. I simply don't think we have the cattle at the moment. But, stranger things have happened.
Is this a fully ticketed game? Can't find info anywhere
I don't think it is, yet. Info should be up soon, on the club website if nowhere else.
@ Crash
Talk about brain chemistry! :))
I am a winning addict being deprived of my substance of choice on too many occasions.
I think we all have, Cookie. Even the coach needs a good dose of dopamine: look at his pressers and you can see the relative lack of neurotransmitters in his behaviour.
Add in the more favourable 2015 draw finishing bottom 6. But that should be doable regardless as there are what 2 games and % between us and the next side above us?
Cats will want to keep their home final top 2 chances alive too.
We absolutely must go all out to win this, and I think we will. If we don't then too bad, but I want to see an heroic effort by us! 8)
We've had a few heroic efforts this year. However, getting close to them would almost screw them up mentally as much as a Carlton win would. They must understand just how undermanned we are at the moment.
Agree. If we could make it into a nail biter it would be great! Good fo draft picks, good for morale and undermines their confidence. 8)
I saw Riccardi's kick deflect from Wiggo's hand... at leats one of that 12 is a con job.
Be prepared to get absolutely reamed on Friday night - the ducker chuckers get carte blanche against us.
And their last 'win' was shown millions of times not to be. And the Umpire's boss admitted it. They have been on borrowed time against us for quite a while. It may not quite be time to call in the debts, but the better we play, the clearer it will be to them that THE DEBTS WILL BE PAID!
Crash, we match up well against this mob, I don't see why we can't run them close.
Agree, the only problem I see will be Lonergan and Taylor will provide more of stumbling block than May and Thompson did for GC last game.
Both were in Geelong's best vs Freo and I think players like Menzel and Casboult will have to do more to help Waite out because I dont see him kicking a bag vs Taylor.
Of course the other issue is Tom Hawkins and I think Jamo has to stand him 1st as Rowe was out thought and outmuscled last game....
Reckon we can match them in the midfield and if we can kick straight and take our chances we can win....
We've played well against them in the past purely because our pace is a concern for them. For this reason with the absence of Walker, Buckley and Yazz, I expect Army will get a run and I won't be surprised if Jeffy gets a call up. Whatever happens we've nothing to lose, but they do. Go Blues!
Give Rowe Tommahawk first up, and find out if he learned anything from last time about how to do things differently. Might be more worthwhile given where we are on the ladder.
@Thry
Yep, after all this is mainly a "development" game for us.
we have to be smart team to beat pussies, 1 need some1 to feel in the space in front of hawk when he leads and 2no long bombs to our fwd line taylor and longreon will destroy us.But at the end of day
No Hendo doesn't help us EB, got the feeling their defence will be a bit too smart for us but we can match 'em elsewhere.
Just read on twitter Stevie J on crutches during at cats training session.
Very unlikely to play.
That's gotta help us I guess ;)
All I know is that I am sick to death of losing to these pricks.
But knowing how we have played in the past against Geelong, we will put up a good fight but lose in a close one and we will be on here on Friday night saying what an honourable lose it was.
:'(
Given who and how many we have out, I'm not expecting much.
Which ever boys make it out there, I hope they have a good crack and show a bit of heart/pride.
I would take this one in a heart beat. If we can be very competitive, I would be more than happy. I don't expect us to win and probably see us missing by around 4 goals in the end.
Does anyone think we can get within 19.5 points?? I'm thinking of taking us in my line tipping competition.
Go for it. It sounds about where we are at.
Read that Yazz likely to play.
On the other hand, if we are trying to win the game Jamison will get Hawkins.
Maybe, I don't think we can win because we have some significant outs since we last played them.
Walker
Robinson
Henderson
Yarran ?
Everitt
Is Judd enough to cover these guys?
Im tipping a win, we are playing some really good footy over the last 8 or so weeks, Judd's playing on.....ive just got that feeling we might surprise, no science or method, just a feeling
That's enough for me!!
I'm emptying the kids bank accounts first thing in the morning.
Carlton +39!!! O0 ;D
The possibility of no Stevie J means that we can cover Selwood and one more with Curnow and Carrazzo.
2 significant ins for us are Judd and Curnow who were both sorely missed last time. And don't forget the quadruple goal kicker Tommy Bell for good measure!!!
So Im oversees in Italy. Can someone give me a link that I can watch it on line please?
Stokes killed us last time. Send Curnow to him.
Gibbs played his (nearly) best ever game on Selwood last time and kept Selwood pretty quiet. Wouldn't be against sending Gibbs to him again.
Maybe Carrots to Kelly or Duncan?
If Yazz is fit to play, he would be a good match up for Motlop. He can keep up with him defensively but at the same time work off him to keep Motlop accountable.
Think that Yazz won't play the rest of the year
Other significant ins are Waite & Wood (did Bell play against them last time?). Judd & Curnow are massive ins from last time though....massive.
No McLean this time and we might win! :P
Hendo was in shocking form last time around so ne (net) loss. Also, Rowe a better performer now.
Blues by 20.

Carlton In: NO change
Out:
Geelong. In: Bews, Smedts
Out: Bartel, Johnson
Big outs!!
Big final 1992... must ignore the outs.
Reckon Brock will wear the vest and replace Graham once the pace is off the game (barring injury).
...and if Yazz doesn't come up, reckon Dangles is named as an emergency to take his place.
Have they rested Bartel? If so, that strategy may well backfire...
94' No Couch, no Bairstow, no Hocking!!! I remember Carlton fans before the match saying we can't lose lol.
...woops :-[ yes, 1994... I was one of those confident ones who thought we were good things. Apparently the Blight pre match address was magnificent. Anyway, I aint gonna fall for that one again!!!
I will only say we can win this game when we win it.
'94 was awful bowing out in straight sets after finishing second. With the loss to the scum in the final round it was three straight losses to end the year. Pretty sure that loss to the scum also cost us top spot as well.
One thing I never understood was when SOS was injured early why did we put Mil Hanna (who starred on the wing for us all year) on Ablett? Of course Gazza destroyed us.
So we have lost how many straight to this mob? 10 or 12?? Not sure. They have Bartel and Stevie J out, many would say we can get em. Trouble is, we always come up short when presented with similar opportunities (i.e. Hawks in recent times, Saints a few years back). If there was ever a time for what I call a "fork this" game, this is the one. If the boys go in desperate with an enoughs enough attitude, we can win.
Go Blues
Sorry should have checked, we have lost the last 5 and won only 3 of the last 15 encounters.
Our last wins against Geelong have all been at the MCG. It is about time we got over that particular issue.

They probably reckon that we are the favourites: after all, we are 13th and they are 3rd and looking to finish on top. Kade Simpson named as CHB. I hope we log this bunch of poseurs!
Cats at their weakest I have seen them...two big outs/2 weaker players in ,if we cant beat them this time we never will...
Think I'm going to tip us!
Don't jinx us Cookie!!!!!!
;)
In this era, I've always been very philosophical....if we're good enough we'll win etc.etc.....without ever being at all confident.....however.....we've showed something lately that I like; and still I'm not at all confident, but now quietly hopeful....if that makes sense.
I have a feeling there's a turn in the tide....it's either here or not far away.
I'd still reeeeaaaallly like to see Armfield in there instead of Brock. Apart form that, it's about as good as we can get with the injury list.
cheers
Mal.
Brock is a better user of the ball by hand and foot than Armfield
Armfield is faster by foot than Brock
I will go with Brock on this occasion...
Put the clamps on Selwood and Motlop and we should be a real shot. I wouldnt mind seeing Yarran go head to head with Motlop either.
Every time we build ourselves up for a big game against a good team our home game,we all get a bit of the carlton swagger back.Bang we lose, who knows which carlton team comes out tonight.(hope i am wrong)
The non selection of Army bodes very badly for IMO. He'll be very lucky to be with us next year.
He was left out at the start of the year and now with a few injuries he still can't get a game. I reckon Ross Lyon would go for a player like Armfield, hard at it, disciplined and quick.
ITs games like these, when the luck of the draw in terms of injuries to the opposition, falls our way, that we still manage to lose.
We re a big chance, but am to nervous to call a win seeing as we ve blown close games all too often over recent time.
Same here. I want to be confident, but I know that it always ends up in tears
I would love one of players to knock Selwood out early.
Seriously make a statement from here on, that we are going to play hard every game.
Robbo would have been perfect for this. lol
In steps Tommy Bell
If Nick Graham lines up at CHF I will walk naked, backwards, on my hands the length of Sydney Road... All the way to Sydney
I'm getting my video camera ready. ;D
Don't you know the red vest is made by Nick's personal tailor?
No change to Blues... McLean to wear the vest - good decision, get the speed out of the game before bringing him on.
We may win or we may lose but there's a new spirit at Carlton and we'll be in for a great game. For the Juddster to get excited about what's happening at Carlton, after seven long and painful years for him, as well as us, I don't think we're going to be that disappointed tonight either way. Look at the way Carrots ( not the Carrots on here but I wouldn't put it past him) went at that ex Brisbane kent and Graham went at Murf's tagger the week before, I think Stevie J is faking that injury. :)
;D
Don't like Brock getting the vest but I guess he's on his way out anyway...
