Over in Melbs this weekend and will be going.
Hoping for some good footy viewing and to see some of our kids showing some talent and heart.
Have not seen any Blues matches on the tv for a month or so being here in SA.
Taking my son to his first ever game. His last chance to see the great man in person.
Am going as it will be the last game I attend for the year. Hoping the sun shines on the great man as he travels around the sacred turf as has been a great player for our club and at times the only ray of sunshine in the last 12 years.
I'm going with my wife who is a Melbourne supporter, and my son and Grandson who were smart and and followed me into supporting the CFC.
So the missus will be heavily outnumbered.
It will be the last game I get to this year: I am having foot surgery next week and won't be walking for the last round against Hawthorn.
With our list I can't see us winning, but Melbourne were one quarter wonders against the Dogs. So it is going to be another nil all draw type of game.
Seriously, I can't see us winning while we play Smith and Dick and similar guys. But there isn't a lot I can do about that.
Hogan 6 goals and I reckon Garlett will beat up on us like all the ex Blues players seem to do and kick 4...
Gawn to dominate the rucks and Viney to beat up on Murphy.....
Like I said previously we need to play Tutt and Jones and make sure of the result ...
I'm fearful that this is pretty much spot on what ll happen.
Big Hoges will virtually rubber stamp the Rising Star with a BOG against us.
Our family will come to this game from regional WA - to farewell the Juddman.
Although this is the main reason we're spending the hard-earned, I'm really hopeful that the Blues put on a good show. Heck the optimist in me is even hoping we get over the line. Better still, I'm so glad we chose this round and not the dreaded last round..
I expect us to bounce back from last week's lacklustre effort. Fortunately for us the Dees are hot and cold in games as well so if our better players can take advantage of their lapses we could sneak over the line. Fitting that the Juddmeister does his lap of honour when we play the Dees, the side he barracked for as a kid.
Add Watson to those ponies with Ellard and Dick and we should seal the deal!
I wouldn't be overtly upset if that punk Viney gets dealt with... getting a bit tired of him beating up on little blokes and is the kind of opponent that we need to put back into place otherwise he will lord it over our blokes for the next 10 years.
Agree...likes to needle and play the tough guy...pity Robbo isnt still with us....Viney on the you have been Robbo-ed thread would be nice viewing..
Murphy hopefully can give some back and his team-mates can make regular contact with Viney...
First contest - a nice rib tickling tackle from Kreuzer and/or Cripps would be nice.
I reckon Nick Holman likes a bit of a dust up so I would like the see him encouraged to 'mingle' a bit.
I honestly think we can win this one, or at least lose a close one.
I'm hoping Yarran and Menzel are back in, enough of the BS and Barker having his ego trip.
Yarran, Menzel and Casbout in for Dick, Ellard and Rowe for mine.
Doubt you will ever see Menzel and Yarran pull on the navy blue again.
But I also believe we can win this one.
Dees by 8 goals plus.
I do not understand what is going on at Carlton, but we will not be winning this weekend. We have nothing left to win with.

Our side is not looking strong on paper. However, it hasn't for some time. Watson possibly in is a bit of a surprise. I hope he can do something.
Probably the best looking (on paper) forward line we've fielded all year.
I hope Holman and Jaksch play, rest are making up the numbers.
I still reckon we're a fair chance here, but I would have liked to see Yarran in the team.
Melbourne by plenty....
Yarran's Carlton career is cooked....same scenario as Henderson I daresay, just not getting on a soap-box to declare it as that ar$e-wipe did. I'll be gobsmacked if he plays another senior game with the club.
Yep - would take some sort of miracle.
I hope you mean a mentally engaged, in-form Yarran, not the one we have now?
We have no intentions of winning.
We re in exactly the position we want to be to maximise out trading'/drafting opportunities, and we won't be letting it go.
These real games that are mattering to us now are happening off the field.
The AFL need to stop this. Six weeks out we should know the team that gets #1. Priority picks could then come into play after the season proper, but it would stop any perceived tanking.
The AFL should adopt a "give 'em enough rope" strategy with regards to tanking. "If you're stupid enough to deliberately initiate a losing culture, then arrogantly think you can flick a switch and start winning once you have enough picks, then you get what you deserve - a club that doesn't know how to win, a club that loses players and fails to attract new ones, a club that loses supporters, a club that is perennially anchored to the bottom of the ladder."
The mythical "better future" that comes with great coaches, great players etc. simply won't materialize. The future is now.
Winning build self belief and self confidence in players, and builds an aura in the eyes of the opposition. It's good for business.
Mail is he has external issues and the leadership group have sat down with him and told him they want him to stay.
We may very well have left him in the VFL just to take the pressure off him with his own blessing.
There are a lot of issues surrounding Chris if you hear the scuttlebutt, and given where we are at, and where he is at headspace wise, it makes sense to let him do his thing.
Unlike others I don't believe that Yarran is a lock to leave.
Will Lachie be doing a farewell lap behind Juddy......would make my year if he does..... ;)
Is it to much to ask that Garlett doesn't kick any? Couldn't handle anything else this week.
Jeffy and a small forwards clinic... Put your house on it ????????
Spot on. Carlton just don't seem to get it, and until they do, the story won't get any better.
Can we really blame players for losing heart in this kind of environment?
Even if the clubs intent is not explicitly said, the players are not stupid, they will have figured out what the end game is.
This is (a part of) whats killing Carlton. Until we have a President, board and CEO who will not stand for this sort of behavior, tactics or culture then Carlton will always have problems.
It starts at the top, the new Pres and CEO have shown their colors, and until they change their attitude or are replaced, the club will go nowhere fast.
Whats wrong with getting serious and beating this mob... second last is waaaaaaaaaaay better than last IMO. Any of the kids mooted to go in the top three is fine by me anyway.
F it, let's promote a winning culture not a loser mentality like the Saints or Dees have had for the last 40 years.
Agree. Losing begets losing. And the argument about wanting to see who performs at league level is garbage. If the club had their act together players would know what is expected at VFL level, perform or not then get the opportunity to play at league level. Otherwise its all 'have a go' and 'give them a chance' which smacks of amateurism.
Play to win. Otherwise what is the point.
In: Levi, Menzel & Tutt
Holman gets dropped so we can see what Ellard has to offer...
OMG. Holman sub last week now dropped and Ellard keeps his spot. Seriously fork off already would you Barker.
Could have been worse PI2C - say no more ;)
Holman dropped and Ellard keeps his place :o :-X
Tanking Tutt in. :D....Pick no 1 is looking safe... :-X
Did everyone else shake their heads when they saw the ins & outs? FMD.....our obsession with Ellard is astounding....
I don't want us to win.
I'm looking at things from a practical point of view.
I want them to have the choice of the number one pick, and who knows, from some info I have heard, a priority pick may not be totally out of the question.
But even if we don't get the priority pick, SOS will have the pressure on to choose between Scahcse, sorry about the spelling and Weiterling, I may have got that one wrong too.
I want to see who he chooses and if, a few years down the track, he was right in his assessment.
As I said, I don't want us to win, but I do want us to lose with dignity.
He might be getting a game because he actually wants to play for Carlton.
From the sounds of it he is part of a small group that do
At least Davey earns the right to wear the navy blue.
He is the epitome of our poor list management and a great example of why we are so sh1t.
The fact he gets a game, shows how soft and selfish the rest of our blokes are.
If half our list had the heart, desire and determination that Ellard has, he'd never get a game. However because they are too worried about how pretty they look out on the field with their fancy haircuts and colourful boots, Ellard deserves a game.
Carrots is right...poor list management and recruiting is why David Ellard continues to prosper...
Cas out Watson in
Ellard sub
I was keen to watch this game, but I'm not sure I can do it.
List managing ;)
Watson to kick 5. It is set for him... Dry day, no wind, weaker opposition and we don't particularly want him to do well!!!
What's the bet that he wins us the game when we are trying to lose it?
I was kind of hoping that with a bottom 2 place sewn up that we might try to win this one... but clearly not.
If we're tanking then Watson will probably play in the backline.
Unless he plays down back...
Sign no 8 NOW!!
Walker in attack, who'd have thought that!
Walker's a good player when playing forward.
We've managed to waste 85% of his career playing in defence.
Best place for walker these days , and he can actually kick well for goal
Brilliant one-handed grab by Watson, a lovely kick to position and a great grab by Everitt, and a goal.
After that qtr look for very strange positional changes...haha!
SOS is sitting in the stand rethinking his strategies, I don't think we'll get the spoon!!
It must have been that poison Henderson holding us back???? don't tell his mother I said that!!!
We're dominating, so if we suddenly turn to crap we're obviously tanking.
Beokhurst doing a few nice things
Suppose where we finish doesn't matter. We still get Weitering, Schache or Francis.
Ok please tell me where this burst of team work is coming from? ;) ;
Maybe the players want Barker after all..lol!
Melbourne are either good to totally awful. Not much in-between.
Who would be a coach laj ? Lol
Ok swab the whole team , who are these guys?
I repeat SIGN 8 NOW!!!
If this game was a bowler in cricket, it would be a gentle medium pacer. No spite, no nasty stuff, 2 well mannered teams, one playing better than the other.
8 is certainly looking like the player we have all suspected he could be , great to see after all the injuries.
Yep your right PaulP , no need for a helmet in this game
An average game but we're playing as a team, I hope Yarran's taking note, Whiley doing very well on Jones.
Murphy and Kreuzer dominating, Carratts very good in close.
How was Hogan's mark not paid by the way, one of the worst non decisions I've seen in a long time.
Bell has done some great stuff too.
Cripps to Kruezer for a goal - the future!
screw off Henderson
Charity kick to hogan, major clanger for the umpire there
Hi all at the game with my grand son who is about to see his first win.
Got to be honest here and say that Melbourne are bloody terrible.
With their sub already activated they are gone unless we stop doing what has got us to this stage at half time.
Melbourne appear to be very slow and all of a sudden we look like speedsters.
Tutt lots of possessions but to very little effect.
Look when Rowe and Watson are getting the ball you know that we are too good for them at the moment.
Cripps a genuine champ. If he doesn't win the rising star it's rigged.kreuz been great Buckley good everitt and walker done their job especially walker.
Bokehoerst whiley menzel nothing spectacular do far and Fick not up to it even with everything going our way.
Jammo good Docherty solid and simmo is fantastic.
I would hate to see the effect in his body that the knocks he gets will be in years to come.
Touhey needs to be better. I reckon the other two Irishmen will out do him years to come.
Anyway back to the game.
It looks like its number 2 pick for us!!!
How bad are Melbourne? Oodnadattah -18 could beat them.
Murph apparently dislocated a shoulder.
I hate to say this, I really do, but as a club this to me consolidates why we are so far behind everyone.
The only thing this club could do this year to get something out of it was play the game the AFL has created and lose and lose it well.
It is not really just about pick 1, it is about the PSD and giving those that run the club the greatest opportunity to put a step forward in rebuilding the club from the bottom up.
Now I know tanking is a dirty word and I hate that it is better to lose than win, but the reality is that it is. If we win this game and miss the pick (which we will) what have we got? We have 16 points instead of 12 in the history books, there is nothing tangible when wooden spoon numbers stopped counting after 1.
It would not at all surprise me if Roos went into this game with low intensity not caring about the result to be honest, because stuff Carlton.
Anyway... yay.. we are winning...
::)
Bit of a swing in the air at the moment , will miss Murphy , would think his year is over . Sad
I can see us losing this.
Yes that swing is still going , maybe the msg went out?
We have home from playing reasonably well against a very ordinary team to playing like we are the rubbish that we have been all year.
I want us to get the number one pick and was happy for us to lose but do so with dignity.
I agree with the previous poster.
Getting another 4 points is useless to us.
But when we were showing some spirit I suppose I got caught up in it.
Now there are only 4 goals in it and in the last quarter they will be kicking to their cheer squad end.
You can smell that the game has turned and that they think they are a real chance.
So do I
melbourne $8.00...hmmmm
Well I am here and let me tell you that last quarter was bizarre. Free kick after free kick paid to them in front of goal, free kicks that were not there.
We have also just disappeared tho - I guess Murph doing his shoulder has changed things.
I want to win tho damnit!
Yes we have lost that free flowing game again. Game in danger, hard to say as always want the best for the club. But as it has been pointed out by several, the best is the pick not the win in the long term.
Jammo off with jaw ? Will leave us short down back , going to be interesting
It's been the same since the game started in 1860.
The team with the run on always gets the free kicks or at the very least the benefit if a very serious doubt when it's a touch and go free kick Mickey, and it will always be like that.
Another one of those lost quarters.
Press will have a field day if we loose this one
Are we being too obvious? ???
Not sure Lods will check the script lol
What this really shows us is how useless the rest of our leadership group is!
I'm here and I want a win. Bugger picks, build a winning culture. Besides if we lose we can still finish off the bottom anyway.
The handball by Cripps is just amazing when you consider his age and game time. , if we had some players to feed of him would be great.
Get that bloody #9 off the ground. He is not following the script.
Great kick by Beokhurst , picked out Cripps to a tee.
I have been privileged to see some wonderful champions at our club, Nichols to jiffy.
But I am going to say right now that I am having the privilege to see a young man in Patrick Cripps who may well outstrip them all.
This kid is an absolute genius.
He's contracted till 2017.
Sign him up for another 10 years right now!!!!
If we were trying to orchestrate a loss, I'm glad we failed. No place for that attitude at PP.
Cripps should have just sealed the rising star award after todays efforts.
However, they are more likely to give it to the great white hope at the Dees because its more fashionable to give it to the key forward.
Boys looked genuinely happy to win. If there's tanking going on, they're bloody good actors.
Cripps must be a lock for the B+F, surely ?
Whew!
A better side would have beaten us but it's great for the boys, they've been under enormous pressure but they played with real heart today even if the skills were at our usual level.
Murph's injury almost spelt doom but they plugged away without him, until he was injured he was white hot.
Can't say much about Cripps, he's the real thing all right.
A few scrubbers put in hard, notably Tutt who made mistakes but gave it 110%.
It beats the crap out of losing no matter what pick we get in the draft.
Spewin' we gave up Jeffy!!! We knew EXACTLY how to play him. He melted!!
Whiley showed something today. Worth persevering with.
Thought he was average vs substandard opposition, tackles well and is ok by hand but poor by foot and lacks a yard.
