One of the good "bad" guys
RIP

Hans Gruber, one of the best baddies ever. Genre-defining movie.
And you couldn't have picked a better Snape.
Interesting character. Very underutilized, loved him in Dogma. RIP.
Maybe this is a reflection on my schoolboy sense of humour, but my favourite Rickman movie is Galaxy Quest. Here's a googley interweb piece ...
Galaxy Quest is, for lack of a better term, garbage. But it's the type of precious garbage that must be protected at all costs.
In the movie, Rickman plays Alexander Dane, an actor that has gained notoriety for his role in a sci-fi movie and who's become absolutely fed up with the various convention appearances and store openings he's forced to attend.
Galaxy Quest came out at an interesting point in Rickman's career. Trying to break away from the villainous typecast he had found himself in, Rickman started exploring more comedic roles and proved to the world that he was, above all else, hysterical.
To date, there are few actors that can pull off deadpan as well as Rickman could. He understood comedic timing like few others did and, using his sophisticated, infamous voice to his advantage, used deadpan comedy whenever he could.
One of the best moments in Galaxy Quest is when Dane joins his fellow cast members at the opening of a new store and he's forced to say his iconic line from the film, "By Grabthar's hammer, you shall be avenged," but with one slight alteration. In the scene, Rickman nails the apathetic, bored look and slowly says, with every bit of disgust, "By Grabthar's hammer, what a savings."
I might be a bit of a ''girlie-man'' but my favourite role of Rickman's is his one in Love Actually.
The scene with Rowan Atkinson where he's trying to buy a present for his girlfriend before his wife gets back and Atkinson's taking his time gift wrapping it cracks me up. :D
Yes, that is a memorable scene!
He was quite a versatile actor - when he wasn't playing villains.
RIP
RIP.
We recently watched that movie at home Lods and that scene IMO was probably the only notable one in the whole movie - very funny in fact. The rest of the film is forgetable IMO, but then I'm just an old grump. ;)
Rickman was a very good actor nevertheless - RIP.
You must be a grump Cookie!!
My wife plays the movie several times a year and I will often watch at least part of it and enjoy a good laugh. The scene where Martine McCutcheon meets the PM and reveals her premonition that she was going to "f--k up on my first day" is a p1sser :)
I guess I must be DJC. Just did not connect with that movie at all.
BTW, I remember you posting many moons ago that you enjoyed reading Bernard Cornwell's Saxon Chronicles. Well apparently the BBC have filmed the first part relating to King Alfred, so I'm hoping it gets shown on SBS eventually - that I would definitely enjoy.
Terrific cast.
.....but it's a strange movie (Love Actually) some of the sub-stories are really good.
Bill Nighy's old rocker is a crack-up.
....others story lines are pretty ordinary.
The porn star Hobbit and his girlfriend is really forgettable as is the Laura Linney story.
Funny to see Rick (from the Walking Dead) obsessed with Keira Knightley.
He'd just take out the competition these days ;D
OMG it's that guy? Love Actually is most definitely not my kind of film but I loved it lol. Bloke that headed to the US to pick up American babes made the film for me! :D
RIP.

Never have and never will watch any of the Harry Potter films, and despite loving him in Die Hard, Dogma is what i always think of when i think about Alan "Metatron" Rickman.
Seems fitting now.

Just from reading some of the tributes.....he was a very versatile and talented actor (just in this thread there's a range of opinions as to his favourite roles)... but the general opinion seems to be that he was also a champion bloke.
I am looking forward to that - and the next season of Vikings will be out soon :)
Galaxy Quest was a terrific little film he was in.
His dead pan delivery of lines was brilliant.
Happy Trails Hans.
