In game thread ready to run. I hope we can break our hoodoo against these reprobates.
So far, they are cleaner with the footy and we are giving away silly free kicks.
SOS should have marked that in the goal square, fumbled and was tackled.
I want Berust as our next goal kicking coach ;D
Getting plenty of the ball, just no system forward, and when we do can't kick them. Might get a stamp made up for that comment just keep writing it
My God, Touhy 99 games in defence and still doesn't know to look at the ball after finding a player in defence. ,spare man in defence is playing too straight when they are bringing the ball down the wings,,,
Spot on - very much same old same old.
Silvagni looks lost.
Scrappy game - Boeky doing ok.
We're dominating but can't finish. Should be 3 goals up.
Krooz displaying his usual lion heart - shame about that kick for goal.
Phillips is our premier ruckmen. Kruezer is our forward ruck. If he can kick straight he's of no use!!!
Shocking kick Kruze
Casboult, Everitt, Silvagni giving nothing and we're still within a goal!!! There must be a few working hard!!
And out of petrol, needs a rest looks slow and tired
Going really well that 2Q except going inside 50 and kicking for goal. Gee, if we could just get that forward set up fixed!!!
We are just a tad messy with the footy. Defensively we are excellent.
A combination of terrific effort and Hawthorn either disinterested or going easy on us because they still have feelings for Bolts.
Either way, you have to be proud at half time.
We could be Richmond.
I'd rather barrack for Carlton than Richmond!!!
To right , frustrating miss , in such a low scoring game. Please bring back a game style where the teams actually score. Can remember games in the 70's & 80's horrible ground conditions , wind , rain etc, but they could still score? This is the retro round , go back to those days and have a look at what made the game great , this is clinical & boring to watch
You would feel that regardless of today's events, I feel sure................
Yep, we have a very good defence to build on. The forward zone is where we are falling down, at least today.
... and a dumb kick. Warnock-esque.
If we actually believe that we might beat them we could be half a chance.
I think we've had this discussion before Rob - I too, have a soft spot for old school 70's, 80's style footy (apart from the thuggery), but we can't go back.
I know it's early days, but Silvagi plays from a completely reactionary point of view.
Every time the ball comes near, he looks at his opponent as if he is allowing them to go first.
He needs to realise he has an equal right to be on the ground and start demanding the ball, instead of hoping it bounces his way...
Showing my age ha ha , not the era I like more of a rounded game style. Look at the score board, 3 goals between 2 teams at half time? Please ? can't believe this is a game style going forward at times , not us but the game in general
We're just a couple of old(ish) farts whining about the passing of the "good ol' days" - precisely the type we swore we'd never become.
I should add, I'm half kidding - I find this game oddly absorbing.
Maybe but the game has changed so much , and not sure I would find the same passion if this is what I had found initially.
Perhaps, but if you want some free flowing, high scoring footy, you know who we need to bring back.............
I like this stat: "Hawthorn was kept goalless for a quarter by a non-finalist for the first time since Round 6, 2010"
We have wasted our chances with stupid kicks though. A couple more goals would have given us a bit of a chance but the Hawks will be a different team second half. We MUST make use of the breeze this quarter or it will be ugly!!
And in the time it took me to write my previous post the Hawks kicked 2 goals. Ominous! Thank goodness for Richmond
No, you must resist. Let's stick to the thread topic.
Hawks skipping away a little.
Yes great defensive effort that. . And just saw what Doc did .... Cancel that
All of a sudden we're in the poo! I'll shut up about our defence. >:(
He's been terrific this year - even the greatest stuff it up at some point.
Phillips miss.
Defence has been composed most times, but the constant pressure will take its toll at times .
I can't really get a feel for the conditions listening on the radio - how bad / strong is the wind ?
Can't score with this game plan.
Casboult can't run.
Half way through the 3rd quarter and we have 1 goal.
Stinky Jordan Lewis.
Clearly part of the plan when opposition gets a run on is to retain possession at all costs - hence the ugly kicking backwards, chipping around etc. Problem is, we can't do it for more than 30-45 seconds without turning it over.
4 goals in 12 minutes to the Hawks and 10 inside 50s to one.
We are a rabble. Turn-overs everywhere. What happened to the pressure and intensity from the first half?
Hawthorn have 6, which, whilst better, ain't great either.
And Dre just kicks one.
Ummmm Sumner!!!
Dwayne Russell saying Sumner should get a backbone lol.
20 points in arrears - bit of rain falling.
Nice build up, Gibbs goals, see it can be done. Wind is blustery , effecting both teams.
Buckley's best game for a long time???
Yes Buckley has been very good in patches, looks better forward, more freedom. Nice Goal Cripps
Awesome grab Kruze , finished it with a goal, well deserved. Amazing marking in the forward 50 and we score, who would have thought?
Kreuzer lifting
Certainly has been a great qtr , completely different from the first half. Some of those misses in the first qtr will come back to bite us here
Apparently a great chase by Jack.
Damn you Gunston.
Take Casboult off!! He's a liability the way he is.
Hawks have won there last 18 at this ground , odds should be in our favour for a boil over? Gee Bolts would love that
Agree,, ashtray on a motorbike today. Despite this, we are in it up to our ears which is good.
Gibbs = Leader. Bolts know the buttons to push there!!
The comeback was Cripps inspired.
Good to see Beokhorst getting some touches as well, has been useful today
Casboult injured. His knee again. Time to pull the pin on his season.
Nice SOJ Mark & goal, very cool
Thankfully Stratton kicks for goal like a true defender.
Don't mind Buckley trying to play a bit risky and taking the game on.
Nice forward pressure , and the reward would have been nice
On ya Razor - theatrical pause and all.
Ahh Jack...........
Jack 5 tackles, if you don't mind................
Cas and Cripps - how about some communication ?
Any word on Weeters ?
Hawks marking starting to make a difference in the later stages
Strapping it , corkie on the shin area they are saying , could be back
Poster to cas.
Poster by Casbould from of the ground , a little luck would make this interesting for sure
The impression I get from the radio is that Dre has been ok - thoughts ?
Goal to Sumner.
You'd think the Hawks will win for sure, but a rather unconvincing performance.
Hodge you malacca.
Anyone but $&@?ing Hodge!
Some good trading and a pre season into the younger bodies.... things are looking up. Well better than Richmond's at least ;D
All over Gulshan Grover.
I look forward to the day when we move from consistent honourable losses to consistent wins, either of the gritty, ugly variety, or the blow out, high scoring variety.
Radio commentators saying overall our players were better.
Oh well. Greens shoots and all that...............
