With our perceived lack of firepower up forward, who might be the first player to kick a bag of 5 in a game this year??
My choice: Weitering (left field!!)
Armfield
Vescio
If someone gets 5 they may kick our entire score....lol.
Casboult...5 points ;D
(sorry couldn't help myself)
In fact if there is someone likely to kick 5 it could quite possibly be Casboult. He has kicked a few lots of 3 & 4
Pickett
Josh Kennedy...
:-\
Palmer.
Yes, my money would be on Casboult. I just hope it's not 5 goals 8 behinds :)
Saw Jezza kick 6.12 once.
But that was worth watching Jim! 1.12 from the master would have been a great afternoon's entertainment :)
It was! The whole side kicked 30.30!
Yep
Poor kicking is poor football ;D
If I remember correctly, that was a record score and our opponents were Hawthorn. I wouldn't mind us kicking 15.15 against the Hawks this season :)
It was a record at the time.
Had they been a bit more accurate it would still be a record.
One of the newspapers at the time, reporting on the match, had the headline
"The day the Blues went wild and kicked a cricket score!"
We kicked 12.6 in the last qtr.
If Jezza had kicked straight we might've got closer to 40 goals...lol.
Percy Jones kicked 7 goals as well that day
30.30 was Round 2, 1969 apparently.
Did they have 20 minute quarters then ? If so, 4x20+stoppage time means a shot on goal every 1.5 minutes, give or take.
Wow.
Are the NB's and rookies counted ?
If so, I say LeBois.
Did anyone kick 5 last year?
Are we talking about the 1's?
Got to say, not too many players spring to mind ::)
If someone did kick 5 in a game, they'd be dead set favorite to win our leading goal kicker right? Wright won it last year on 22.
My guess though in afl is it will be Casboult. Maybe a stretch, but one can dream ;)
I think that was while footy games were 100 minutes of footy, ie four 25 minute quarters of the ball in play.
I was there that day - lots of fun.
Thanks DJC. Still, one shot on goal every couple of minutes......wish I was there.
Saw SOS kick 10 at PP, played FB in the first quarter then went forward because we were down. Started with four consecutive points.
Us vintage supporters can remember when kicking 10 in a game was a highlight , now we can't get 5 . Times have changed. This year, I would think out of Levi, Charlie or Pickett, just hope it's all at different times.
In reality it's hard to see anyone kicking 5 goals, just because we don't have enough depth across the 22 to cover for someone who attracts defensive focus.
Of the players who have the potential, probably Caboult, Jaksch and Jones are the standouts for this year. In a year or two it will be Curnow, McKay and Silvagni.
I'm hoping we let Weiters settle down back.
Not going to happen.
Tend to agree and sarcasm made me say ex Blue Josh Kennedy previously but of our listed players I'd say Jack Silvagni is our best bet as he can kick straight......
I saw him kick 5 in 15 minutes against Essendon at Princes Park one day, but back to our current reality.
Young Silvagni is the only player I could see doing it this season.
I reckon Pickett could do it if we get a hold of a team with a lack of defenders that can man up smalls.
You know it's gone a bit awry when you have seen Simon Beaumont kick 8 and now not even your good ones can kick half of that.
For the same logic and something left field.
Sam Rowe.
I'll go with Weiters.
By round 7 I think he'll rack up 5 for the season... ????
Jarrod Pickett
Match or Season?
I cant see anyone kicking more than 20 for the year........ Maybe Charlie Curnow or Jack Silvagni if they play forward all year.
"I saw him kick 5 in 15 minutes against Essendon at Princes Park one day, but back to our current reality.

Actually I think it was 6 in 10 minutes. Still have the article in my childhood scrapbook somewhere. I often quote to the family , late in a game when we are 5 or 6 goals down, 'Jezza once kicked 6 in 10'.
if he stays injury free, I am confident young SoS can kick 5 in a game, if not this year then at some stage.
I don't know that we have another player capable at this stage in their career
I would consider Gibbs as forward opotion very difficult player to match intelligent, creative good kick should be able to kick a gaol or Jaksch a mobile tall with some talent, he's kicked 7 goals in two 2nds practice matches let's see how he goes this week.
We need to mix it around a little it’s been to stagnant and dysfunctional.
