Title: 2017 Jim Park Medal Analysis:
Post by: crashlander on March 21, 2017, 08:55:04 pm
It will be nice to get back to 'normal' (what is 'normal'?) Here will be the summary of the votes and whatnots. At this early stage I have no idea who is going to stand out.

Round 1: Carlton vs Richmond I did go into the game with some hope, but....
Some notes: [1] We had 24 people vote for this round. That compares well to most games last year. However, 30 people did vote in this game last year. Considering that so many people consider that we will be spooners, getting 24 voters is a good turnout. Hopefully we can get the voters for longer this season. [2] We rated the game at 7.24, which is close enough to D+. Considering how we went, this rating shows that our voters are seeing the future. Hopefully we can see more of the future in the weeks to come. [3] We had 12 players getting a vote, which is not the spread we tend to see when we win. We also had some of our more important players not making huge contributions. I won't go into that, enough has been mentioned on other threads. But we need some of 'name' players to stand up to be successful. [4] On the other hand, it was very nice to see Murphy and Kreuzer stand up. Both have struggled with injury in recent times and both made a positive statement.
Votes: Kreuzer, Matthew 311 Murphy, Marc 246 Marchbank, Caleb 147 Weitering, Jacob 115 Plowman, Lachlan 99 Gibbs, Bryce 39 Rowe, Sam 36 Simpson, Kade 35 Wright, Matthew 33 Silvagni, Jack 29 Docherty, Sam 12 Casboult, Levi 5

Round 2: Carlton vs Melbourne Disappointing, but there were positive signs. We didn't take our chances, but we improved significantly over the previous game.
Some notes: [1] This year we had 17 voters, compared to 22 for the same game last year. I guess we should be happy: we lost a lot of voters late in the year and ordinary losses to not motivate people to see our games. [2] This week we rated the game at 7.76; more or less a C- and an increase of 0.52 over last week. [3] Again, we had 12 vote getters this week, which appears to be fairly typical when we lose.
This week's votes: Cripps, Patrick 269 Wright, Matthew 233 Murphy, Marc 210 Plowman, Lachlan 176 Rowe, Sam 87 Docherty, Sam 64 Kreuzer, Matthew 48 Curnow, Edward 30 Marchbank, Caleb 18 Macreadie, Harrison 14 Thomas, Dale 9 Gibbs, Bryce 7
Matthew Wright had one of his best games, with 4 excellent goals. Murphy continues his renaissance with another 30+ possession game, while there was an improved output from Gibbs, Kreuzer and Curnow (Ed). But it was nicest to see Plowman, Marchbank and Macreadie in the votes.
Progressive Voting: 456 - Murphy, Marc (0) 359 - Kreuzer, Matthew (0) 276 - Plowman, Lachlan (0) 270 - Cripps, Patrick (0) 267 - Wright, Matthew (0) 145 - Marchbank, Caleb (0) 123 - Rowe, Sam (0) 115 - Weitering, Jacob (0) 77 - Docherty, Sam (0) 47 - Gibbs, Bryce (0) 35 - Simpson, Kade (0) 30 - Curnow, Edward (0) 29 - Silvagni, Jack (0) 14 - Macreadie, Harrison (0) 10 - Thomas, Dale (0) 5 - Casboult, Levi (0)
Murphy has gone out to an early lead with 456 votes, ahead of Kreuzer and a trio around 270 vote mark.

A win over the Drug Cheats was one to celebrate. Especially considering the conditions and the youthful squad we had. Very enjoyable, even in the rain. :)
Some Notes: [1] We had 2 less people vote this year compared to last year. That was probably due to the weather, which kept the crowd down significantly. 22 people voted this time. [2] We appreciated the win. The rating for this week was 9.24, easily the best this year. This represents approximately a B+. [3] 14 different players got votes for this performance. Very strong result. [4] Some of our higher ranked players stood up this week, especially Murphy, Kreuzer and Gibbs.
Votes: Murphy, Marc 374 Kreuzer, Matthew 195 Gibbs, Bryce 193 Rowe, Sam 149 Plowman, Lachlan 137 Docherty, Sam 95 Curnow, Edward 67 Cripps, Patrick 63 White, Simon 61 Petrevski - Seton, Sam 32 Simpson, Kade 11 Marchbank, Caleb 8 Silvagni, Jack 8 Williamson, Tom 4
Progressive Votes: 830 - Murphy, Marc (0) 554 - Kreuzer, Matthew (0) 412 - Plowman, Lachlan (0) 333 - Cripps, Patrick (0) 273 - Rowe, Sam (0) 267 - Wright, Matthew (0) 229 - Gibbs, Bryce (0) 171 - Docherty, Sam (0) 154 - Marchbank, Caleb (0) 115 - Weitering, Jacob (0) 97 - Curnow, Edward (0) 61 - White, Simon (0) 46 - Simpson, Kade (0) 38 - Silvagni, Jack (0) 32 - Petrevski - Seton, Sam (0) 14 - Macreadie, Harrison (0) 10 - Thomas, Dale (0) 5 - Williamson, Tom (0) 5 - Casboult, Levi (0)

10 votes is better then nothing, especially given the state of Daisy's body. But he does need to provide more than leadership.

Crash, when Simon White out polls you by a factor of 6, surely it's time to walk.....

To be honest, I cannot see Daisy going on next season. There is a good chance he will become part of the coaching staff. He is well respected for his footy brain. But his body can no longer get him to do the things that made him so highly regarded.
On the other hand, Sam Rowe polling 273 votes so far suggests he will be around for a while yet. He was beaten on Saturday, but he had silver service from the GC mids.
That White has polled more votes than Simmo so far is also a point of interest.
But one of the things that really pleases me is the performance of Plowman. To be 3rd at this point is a great effort and suggests we did the right thing in recruiting him. Even if the others in his deal do not come off, he is an excellent pickup.

The Plow was taken at 3 in his draft, first tall in that draft. He will be a gun just like Caleb M.

That draft year was regarded as really weak; Plowman was viewed as the best natural defender, although a bit small for a key position. O'Rourke went at number one, and the caveats on him have proven to be correct - doesn't look like making it at Hawthorn either.

Not sure Daisy will last the 2nd half of the season, no doubt he is trying but the body wont do the things the brain is telling it to do and I think both player and club need to sit down and formulate a retirement deal now so he gets to go out in a dignified manner rather than be pushed/staggering over the line..

I wouldnt be so sure guys.
There are stats that mean a lot to teams that the average punter wont be privy to unless they go searching.
Dale Thomas is currently sitting 6th in our team for metres gained this season in our team.
A stat that is very important to getting the team going forward of centre. The top 6 at the Blues:
1. Sam Docherty 2. Marc Murphy 3. Bryce Gibbs 4. Kade Simpson 5. Patrick Cripps 6. Dale Thomas
He is also sitting 9th in our team for score involvements. 13th for intercept posessions, 3rd for Marks taken (which indicates hes getting to where the ball is frequently as his contested stats are not very high).
The other thing that I can see is that his team mates seem to like him, and are trying to involve him as much as possible.
Now, Ive seen just by watching him for a few minutes at a time that he is a smart player who gets to where the ball is, and has a high workrate with lots of repeat efforts at putting defensive pressure on. The only thing really letting him down is his ball use by foot and I would say based on his disposal efficiency (higher than a few in our team who most consider undroppable at the minute at an overall 66%, Bryce Gibbs is travelling at 59%) is that he is only letting us down at critical moments which is highlighting the poor disposal more than anything else.
He isn't what he once was, but I think we need to learn the lesson of Brock Mclean. He too was a footballers footballer, who could get to where the ball was going even though his leg speed didnt show he was worth it, and on current form is still worth playing. Its important that the MC who ask people to perform roles, seem to be happy enough with his work at the minute, but at the same time, it doesn't say anything about whether or not he will go on with it next season.
We will see how the rest of the year pans out, but there are positives he is providing our team which is all we can really hope for.

I call BS to that.
What of his multiple clangers that lead to cheap turnovers - and easy goals to the other side.
Metres gained means jack when the ball misses the target!

Round 4: Carlton vs Gold Coast Not the greatest of result, but we really only failed in 1 quarter. Unfortunately their skill level and game style allowed them to get a lot of goals in the 30 minutes of disaster.
Notes: [1] This game had the voters staying away in droves. There were 14 voters this year compared to 21 last year for this round. Last week we had 22 voters for a game where it poured. I will not speculate as to why we had such a large voter drop-off, but it is not a good trend. [2] The overall rating of 7.14 was much lower than last. This represents a rating of less than a D+. I gather the voters found our 3rd quarter unacceptable. We were the better team in the other 3 quarters. [3] Out teens appeared to cope well with the game and made an impression, as did Pickett. But our inability to make the most of our forward entries was lethal. [4] 13 players managed to get votes for this week. Murphy was the pick for our best player.
Votes: Murphy, Marc 324 Docherty, Sam 268 Simpson, Kade 107 Casboult, Levi 87 Gibbs, Bryce 82 Silvagni, Jack 79 Marchbank, Caleb 36 Kreuzer, Matthew 28 Curnow, Edward 20 Fisher, Zac 18 Macreadie, Harrison 13 Williamson, Tom 8 Pickett, Jarrod 3
Progressive Voting: 1154 - Murphy, Marc (0) 582 - Kreuzer, Matthew (0) 439 - Docherty, Sam (0) 412 - Plowman, Lachlan (0) 333 - Cripps, Patrick (0) 311 - Gibbs, Bryce (0) 273 - Rowe, Sam (0) 267 - Wright, Matthew (0) 190 - Marchbank, Caleb (0) 153 - Simpson, Kade (0) 118 - Curnow, Edward (0) 117 - Silvagni, Jack (0) 115 - Weitering, Jacob (0) 92 - Casboult, Levi (0) 61 - White, Simon (0) 32 - Petrevski - Seton, Sam (0) 27 - Macreadie, Harrison (0) 18 - Fisher, Zac (0) 12 - Williamson, Tom (0) 10 - Thomas, Dale (0) 3 - Pickett, Jarrod (0)

At this particular point, Murphy is well out in front, approximately double the number of votes of the 2nd ranked player (Kreuzer!) This season he has not had less than 25 possessions in any game and he had 3 games with well over 30.
Behind him at this point is a considerable pack: There is basically one good game between Kreuzer in 2nd spot and Wright in 8th spot.
There are 21 vote getters to this point, which is better than this time last year easily. Of those, 9 are in either their 1st or 2nd year on our list. Simmo has not performed to the standard he has over recent seasons as yet. However, he dos remain a consistent performer. However, in recent years he would already be the top 5. He is, at the moment, in 10th spot. Rowe has continued his pretty good form in defence. He did well last year and retains his top 10 standing. We also have a number of younger players featuring so far, not just making up the numbers. Most of the teens have managed to get a mention. However, at this point we still appear to be out of favour with the scribes, as none of our young players have been mentioned as Rising Star nominees as yet. Plowman may have played too many games at this point, but Marchbank, Silvagni, Weitering, Petrevski-Seton and Charlie Curnow have not. There are some good young kids going around, but looking at the performances that have managed nominations both Silvagni and Marchbank have played at least well this year.

Weitering has played too many games to be in RS contention. Surprised the media hasn't mentioned Marchbank though. Must be in the top 10 of the club B+F at this point.

Rd 5: Carlton vs Port Adelaide
An ugly night with little to recommend it. Port flogged us after half time.
Some Notes: [1] With our worst performance of the season was a relatively low voter turn out. We had 17 voters this week, compared to 23 this round last year. However, it was 3 more than last week. To get the voters we need to be more competitive against the 'higher ranked' teams. [2] With a ranking of 5.75, the performance was rated by the voters as our worst. Fair enough. It was a shocker. 5.75 is an E-, which pretty much says it all. [3] 14 players did get a vote: something of a surprise considering how we played. We had very few winners on the night. Certainly guys like Gibbs and Murphy got mentions because they worked hard and got a lot of the ball. However, their direct opponents were among Port's best. [4] It was very hard to find any green shoots. But Jack Silvagni and Charlie Curnow did their best to be noticed. Of course, when you are being pumped, it is hard to notice our players, so it seems. We still haven't managed a Rising Star Nomination yet.
Votes: Cripps, Patrick 270 Casboult, Levi 147 Rowe, Sam 112 Curnow, Charles 103 Silvagni, Jack 64 Plowman, Lachlan 51 Gibbs, Bryce 39 Murphy, Marc 22 White, Simon 12 Williamson, Tom 12 Docherty, Sam 8 Fisher, Zac 8 Marchbank, Caleb 7 Petrevski - Seton, Sam 7
Crippa was rated our best by some margin.
Progressive Votes: 1176 - Murphy, Marc (0) 603 - Cripps, Patrick (0) 582 - Kreuzer, Matthew (0) 463 - Plowman, Lachlan (0) 447 - Docherty, Sam (0) 384 - Rowe, Sam (0) 350 - Gibbs, Bryce (0) 267 - Wright, Matthew (0) 239 - Casboult, Levi (0) 196 - Marchbank, Caleb (0) 181 - Silvagni, Jack (0) 153 - Simpson, Kade (0) 118 - Curnow, Edward (0) 115 - Weitering, Jacob (0) 104 - Curnow, Charles (0) 73 - White, Simon (0) 39 - Petrevski - Seton, Sam (0) 27 - Fisher, Zac (0) 27 - Macreadie, Harrison (0) 24 - Williamson, Tom (0) 10 - Thomas, Dale (0) 3 - Pickett, Jarrod (0)
Murphy still leads by a very large margin, but Cripps moves up into 2nd spot. This is even with him carrying niggles.

Rd 6: Carlton vs Sydney: What difference a week makes!
All of the scribes had Sydney winning this by some margin. Well, that was before we showed some real steel in putting Sydney in their place. :) It was very enjoyable to be there.
Notes: [1] We had one more voter (26) than we did this time last year (25), and a LOT more participation that we did last week. And our efforts reflect this. [2] 18 players got a mention this week, much up on last week. This reflects a real team performance. [3] A rating of 9.24 was excellent. This equates to almost a B+. [4] Murphy has got a mention in every game so far this season. He is averaging close to 30 possessions per game and about 6 tackles per game. It shows just how much we missed him last year when he was injured. [5] Sam Rowe has been in our best in 4 of the 6 games to date. His only real fail was against GC. [6] Murphy has had 2 BoGs, as has Cripps. Kreuzer has 1 and Docherty has 1. [7] 23 players have got a mention in he votes to this point.
Votes: Docherty, Sam 292 Simpson, Kade 249 Kreuzer, Matthew 201 Silvagni, Alex 188 Wright, Matthew 165 Casboult, Levi 89 Murphy, Marc 57 Cripps, Patrick 39 Curnow, Edward 32 Williamson, Tom 20 Gibbs, Bryce 18 Weitering, Jacob 14 Curnow, Charles 11 Rowe, Sam 4 White, Simon 4 Marchbank, Caleb 2 Petrevski - Seton, Sam 2 Fisher, Zac 2
Progressive Voting: 1233 - Murphy, Marc (0) 783 - Kreuzer, Matthew (0) 739 - Docherty, Sam (0) 642 - Cripps, Patrick (0) 463 - Plowman, Lachlan (0) 432 - Wright, Matthew (0) 402 - Simpson, Kade (0) 388 - Rowe, Sam (0) 368 - Gibbs, Bryce (0) 328 - Casboult, Levi (0) 198 - Marchbank, Caleb (0) 189 - Silvagni, Alex (0) 181 - Silvagni, Jack (0) 150 - Curnow, Edward (0) 129 - Weitering, Jacob (0) 114 - Curnow, Charles (0) 77 - White, Simon (0) 44 - Williamson, Tom (0) 41 - Petrevski - Seton, Sam (0) 29 - Fisher, Zac (0) 27 - Macreadie, Harrison (0) 10 - Thomas, Dale (0) 3 - Pickett, Jarrod (0)
Murphy still holds a considerable lead, with Kreuzer and Docherty vying closely for 2nd spot. Cripps is coming 4th at the moment, with a LOT of players in the 300s and 400s jostling behind him.

Rd 7: Carlton defeated Collingwood - almost the perfect weekend for the Blues
Notes: [1] 21 voters this week, compared to 26 for the same time last year. Still 21, is good. [2] 17 players got a vote, just 1 less than last week. Another strong team effort. [3] A rating of 9.65 was even better than last week. That is just less than a A-. [4] Murphy managed his 3rd BOG.
Votes: Murphy, Marc 301 Kreuzer, Matthew 272 Petrevski - Seton, Sam 252 Curnow, Edward 171 Marchbank, Caleb 162 Simpson, Kade 99 Cripps, Patrick 33 Docherty, Sam 31 Casboult, Levi 26 Wright, Matthew 22 Thomas, Dale 20 Graham, Nick 20 Gibbs, Bryce 18 Rowe, Sam 7 Curnow, Charles 7 Plowman, Lachlan 4 Silvagni, Alex 2
Progressive Voting: 1534 - Murphy, Marc (0) 1055 - Kreuzer, Matthew (0) 770 - Docherty, Sam (0) 675 - Cripps, Patrick (0) 500 - Simpson, Kade (0) 467 - Plowman, Lachlan (0) 454 - Wright, Matthew (0) 394 - Rowe, Sam (0) 385 - Gibbs, Bryce (0) 360 - Marchbank, Caleb (0) 354 - Casboult, Levi (0) 321 - Curnow, Edward (0) 295 - Petrevski - Seton, Sam (0) 191 - Silvagni, Alex (0) 181 - Silvagni, Jack (0) 129 - Weitering, Jacob (0) 121 - Curnow, Charles (0) 77 - White, Simon (0) 44 - Williamson, Tom (0) 29 - Thomas, Dale (0) 29 - Fisher, Zac (0) 27 - Macreadie, Harrison (0) 20 - Graham, Nick (0) 3 - Pickett, Jarrod (0)

I keep apologizing for not being as up to date as I wish to be here. I guess I will stop some other day, when I am either punctual or finished.
Round 8: Carlton vs St Kilda and how much I wanted to be these clowns
Notes: [1] Poor voter turnout this week: 13 voters only. Such is life until we win regularly. This time last year more than 20 people voted. Last week 21 people voted. [2] The rating was not that bad for a loss: 8.33, which represents a C+. It also represents a HUGE improvement compared to last year, where St Kilda murdered us twice. [3] 13 players got a mention this week, well down on the 18 of last week.
Votes: Cripps, Patrick 350 Murphy, Marc 269 Docherty, Sam 247 Kreuzer, Matthew 194 Silvagni, Alex 67 Silvagni, Jack 39 Gibbs, Bryce 31 Marchbank, Caleb Simpson, Kade 14 Rowe, Sam 11 Curnow, Edward 6 Curnow, Charles 6 Thomas, Dale 6

Rd 9: Carlton vs Fremantle in Perth 1st quarter was excellent. 2nd quarter was adequate. After half time was not worth worrying bout. Pity I didn't see anything of the game. Apparently Murphy and Williamson kicked ripper goals.
[Notes: [1] The rating, 7.57, suggests that we were not bad, but not quite as good as we require. This represents half way between a D+ and a C-. [2] With the game in Perth and not on free to air TV not as many people saw the game, so not as many people could vote. There were 17 voters this round, compared to 18 for the same round last year. It would have been nice if we could see it. [3] It appears that another of our youngsters put his hand up. Williamson managed his best polling game so far. [4] 11 players managed to get a mention this week, down from last week’s 13. That suggests that we had fewer players do as well as we required. Hopefully we can do better after the Bye, although it is likely that more youngsters will get a taste soon.
Voting: Murphy, Marc 232 Docherty, Sam 227 Kreuzer, Matthew 156 Curnow, Edward 147 Gibbs, Bryce 120 Silvagni, Alex 93 Cripps, Patrick 67 Williamson, Tom 58 Casboult, Levi 27 Marchbank, Caleb 4 Fisher, Zac 4
This represents the 5th time that Murphy has been our highest vote getter this year, from 9 rounds. That is impressive. Gibbs has been a contributor in each game this year, getting a mention but not polling top 2 yet. Alex Silvagni has managed votes in every game he has played at senior level since his promotion. Cripps has managed to get the most votes from us on 3 separate occasions this season. Docherty has only missed the top 10 twice this season. Caleb Marchbank has been in the top ten 6 times so far: not bad for a kid n his 1st year with us. Simmo is slowing down. He hasn't managed a BOG yet this year, but he still continues to be n the top 10 regularly.
Progressive Voting: 2035 - Murphy, Marc (0) 1406 - Kreuzer, Matthew (0) 1244 - Docherty, Sam (0) 1092 - Cripps, Patrick (0) 536 - Gibbs, Bryce (0) 512 - Simpson, Kade (0) 473 - Curnow, Edward (0) 467 - Plowman, Lachlan (0) 454 - Wright, Matthew (0) 405 - Rowe, Sam (0) 381 - Casboult, Levi (0) 379 - Marchbank, Caleb (0) 351 - Silvagni, Alex (0) 295 - Petrevski - Seton, Sam (0) 220 - Silvagni, Jack (0) 129 - Weitering, Jacob (0) 126 - Curnow, Charles (0) 102 - Williamson, Tom (0) 77 - White, Simon (0) 35 - Thomas, Dale (0) 33 - Fisher, Zac (0) 27 - Macreadie, Harrison (0) 20 - Graham, Nick (0) 3 - Pickett, Jarrod (0)
Murphy has skipped out t a solid 600 vote lead from Kreuzer, who is 200 votes in front of 3rd place Docherty with Cripps another 200 behind him. After them is a very solid group of players, lead by Gibbs and Simpson. Alex Silvagni has worked his way into this group in a short period of time.

Rd 10: Carlton vs North Melbourne: another one we could have won with a bit more poise.
Notes: [1] With this game in Melbourne, there were a lot more people voting. There were 21 people voting, up from 17 last week. This is the same number of voters who voted for our big win in the corresponding game last year. [2] The rating was 7.92, more or less a C. [3] 13 players managed to attract a vote this week. This compares to the 11 from the previous week.
Votes: Gibbs, Bryce 332 Kreuzer, Matthew 331 Docherty, Sam 155 Cripps, Patrick 75 Curnow, Edward 70 Simpson, Kade 64 Curnow, Charles 62 Silvagni, Alex 47 Cuningham, David 30 Murphy, Marc 13 Plowman, Lachlan 11 Marchbank, Caleb 6 Wright, Matthew 2
[1] It was very close at the top, with Gibbs earning BOG honours by a single vote from Kreuzer. [2] This was Gibbs' 1st BOG for the year, although he has been a consistent vote getter. [3] Murphy had a relatively down day, attracting only 13 votes. Plowman and Marchbank also had similar numbers of votes. [4] Cuningham and Charlie Curnow attracted considerably more votes this week. This was Cuningham's best result so far, while Charlie Curnow managed his 2nd best tally.
Progressive Results: 2048 - Murphy, Marc (0) 1726 - Kreuzer, Matthew (0) 1398 - Docherty, Sam (0) 1168 - Cripps, Patrick (0) 868 - Gibbs, Bryce (0) 576 - Simpson, Kade (0) 543 - Curnow, Edward (0) 479 - Plowman, Lachlan (0) 456 - Wright, Matthew (0) 405 - Rowe, Sam (0) 398 - Silvagni, Alex (0) 384 - Marchbank, Caleb (0) 381 - Casboult, Levi (0) 295 - Petrevski - Seton, Sam (0) 220 - Silvagni, Jack (0) 189 - Curnow, Charles (0) 129 - Weitering, Jacob (0) 102 - Williamson, Tom (0) 77 - White, Simon (0) 35 - Thomas, Dale (0) 33 - Fisher, Zac (0) 31 - Cuningham, David (0) 27 - Macreadie, Harrison (0) 20 - Graham, Nick (0) 3 - Pickett, Jarrod (0)

Thank-you Crash.
I suppose it's no accident that as we get deep in the season the kids are fading in the top-end votes.

It will be interesting to see how the youngsters handle the next few weeks. Will the bye have a positive effect? Will the (potentially) heavy grounds grind them down somewhat? Will they handle the pressure?
Excellent questions that the next few weeks will answer (I hope).

Rd 12: Carlton vs GWS What a win! The 2nd bottom team defeats the top team. Doesn't happen often, so I will enjoy it!
Notes: [1] The rating, 9.78, is the largest we've had since we were in the finals. This represents a comfortable A-. We may be 18 months into the biggest rebuild in our history, but the players are already showing what it is to beat good teams. [2] We had 17 vote getters this round. 17! That sort of performance all over the field is very encouraging. [3] 23 people voted for this game. That is as many as for the corresponding game last year and among the best for the year. If we produce the effort, we may get more people voting. [4] Looking at our youngsters, there were some solid performances, but the highlight is probably Liam Jones, who played his best ever game for Carlton. Like Alex Silvagni a few weeks back, Jones was not expected to be ABLE to produce like this. His recruiting was roundly criticized (not the least by me). Well, the guy might look similar, but he played totally differently and deserved every vote he got.
Votes: Kreuzer, Matthew 404 Docherty, Sam 364 Jones, Liam 185 Gibbs, Bryce 128 Murphy, Marc 117 Plowman, Lachlan 60 Cuningham, David 49 Marchbank, Caleb 43 Thomas, Dale 23 Simpson, Kade 19 Wright, Matthew 19 Curnow, Edward 15 Cripps, Patrick 13 Weitering, Jacob 11 Silvagni, Jack 9 Casboult, Levi 6 Curnow, Charles 4
Kreuzer and Docherty really gathered some votes here.
Progressives: 2165 - Murphy, Marc (0) 2130 - Kreuzer, Matthew (0) 1762 - Docherty, Sam (0) 1180 - Cripps, Patrick (0) 995 - Gibbs, Bryce (0) 595 - Simpson, Kade (0) 558 - Curnow, Edward (0) 538 - Plowman, Lachlan (0) 475 - Wright, Matthew (0) 427 - Marchbank, Caleb (0) 405 - Rowe, Sam (0) 398 - Silvagni, Alex (0) 387 - Casboult, Levi (0) 295 - Petrevski - Seton, Sam (0) 228 - Silvagni, Jack (0) 193 - Curnow, Charles (0) 186 - Jones, Liam (0) 140 - Weitering, Jacob (0) 102 - Williamson, Tom (0) 80 - Cuningham, David (0) 77 - White, Simon (0) 58 - Thomas, Dale (0) 33 - Fisher, Zac (0) 27 - Macreadie, Harrison (0) 20 - Graham, Nick (0) 3 - Pickett, Jarrod (0)
Kreuzer has just about caught Murphy at the top and they have cleared out ahead of Docherty. Cripps is 600 votes behind in 4th place. Then comes Gibbs, followed a considerable pack.

Round 13: Carlton vs. Gold Coast An excellent win.
Notes: [1] Another very strong result, with a rating of 9.46. This is better than a B+, but not quite an A- and an excellent way to follow up after the GWS game. [2] There were 18 voters this week, one more than this time last year. Again, than you all for taking the time to vote. Without, there would be no award. [3] This week Bryce Gibbs dominated the voting as nobody has since Judd was at his best. A career defining game with over 40 possessions, 2 goals and heaps more. [4] Blaine Boekhorst got his 1st votes for the year.
Votes: Gibbs, Bryce 528 Docherty, Sam 221 Jones, Liam 126 Kreuzer, Matthew 113 Simpson, Kade 110 Curnow, Edward 105 Murphy, Marc 68 Silvagni, Jack 50 Thomas, Dale 47 Cripps, Patrick 29 Plowman, Lachlan 11 Curnow, Charles 5 Casboult, Levi 3b] Boekhorst, Blaine 3
Progressives: 2243 - Kreuzer, Matthew (0) 2233 - Murphy, Marc (0) 1983 - Docherty, Sam (0) 1524 - Gibbs, Bryce (0) 1209 - Cripps, Patrick (0) 705 - Simpson, Kade (0) 663 - Curnow, Edward (0) 549 - Plowman, Lachlan (0) 475 - Wright, Matthew (0) 427 - Marchbank, Caleb (0) 405 - Rowe, Sam (0) 398 - Silvagni, Alex (0) 390 - Casboult, Levi (0) 312 - Jones, Liam (0) 295 - Petrevski - Seton, Sam (0) 278 - Silvagni, Jack (0) 198 - Curnow, Charles (0) 140 - Weitering, Jacob (0) 106 - Thomas, Dale (0) 102 - Williamson, Tom (0) 80 - Cuningham, David (0) 77 - White, Simon (0) 33 - Fisher, Zac (0) 27 - Macreadie, Harrison (0) 20 - Graham, Nick (0) 3 - Boekhorst, Blaine (0) 3 - Pickett, Jarrod (0)
Kreuzer has taken over from Murphy as the leader, but the slim margin of 20 votes. And Docherty is now close in 3rd spot, only 300 behind. It could get pretty close by year's end.

Rd 14: Carlton vs Richmond Our worst game in many weeks, even though we kept it tight. A pity, considering I don't rate Richmond that highly, but that is another take.
Notes: [1] We had a distinct drop in the number of voters this week. In recent weeks we've covered 20 easily. This round we struggled to get 17. [2] Our rating this week was 6.58, much down on the 9's we've been giving lately. 6.58 represents something close to a D-. [3] 12 players managed votes this weeks, but only a few managed more than couple of votes.
Votes: Kreuzer, Matthew 267 Cripps, Patrick 263 Docherty, Sam 167 Gibbs, Bryce 77 Curnow, Charles 77 Jones, Liam 61 Casboult, Levi 48 Murphy, Marc 9 Simpson, Kade 9 Weitering, Jacob 4 Thomas, Dale 2 Graham, Nick 2
Progressives: 2511 - Kreuzer, Matthew (0) 2242 - Murphy, Marc (0) 2150 - Docherty, Sam (0) 1600 - Gibbs, Bryce (0) 1472 - Cripps, Patrick (0) 714 - Simpson, Kade (0) 663 - Curnow, Edward (0) 549 - Plowman, Lachlan (0) 475 - Wright, Matthew (0) 438 - Casboult, Levi (0) 427 - Marchbank, Caleb (0) 405 - Rowe, Sam (0) 398 - Silvagni, Alex (0) 373 - Jones, Liam (0) 295 - Petrevski - Seton, Sam (0) 278 - Silvagni, Jack (0) 275 - Curnow, Charles (0) 144 - Weitering, Jacob (0) 108 - Thomas, Dale (0) 102 - Williamson, Tom (0) 80 - Cuningham, David (0) 77 - White, Simon (0) 33 - Fisher, Zac (0) 27 - Macreadie, Harrison (0) 22 - Graham, Nick (0) 3 - Boekhorst, Blaine (0) 3 - Pickett, Jarrod (0)
Kreuzer extended his lead at the top from Marc Murphy, with Docherty moving closer to Murphy as well. Then a big gap to the pack, lead by 4th place getter Gibbs and 5th place holder Cripps.

Round 15: Carlton vs Adelaide So near, and yet so far. The story of our season.
[1] The rating for this game was 8.3, which corresponds to a C+. Considering that we lost, that is a good rating. [2] There were 16 voters this week, one up from this time last year, but down on our regular number by around 4. [3] 13 players got a mention this week, which is pretty impressive. Kerridge made a favourable impression in his 1st game for some time, while Jones continued his good form.
Votes: Gibbs, Bryce 294 Jones, Liam 268 Curnow, Charles 161 Cripps, Patrick 138 Kreuzer, Matthew 132 Docherty, Sam 96 Kerridge, Sam 78 Murphy, Marc 57 Weitering, Jacob 8 Plowman, Lachlan 5 Marchbank, Caleb 5 Simpson, Kade 3 White, Simon 3

Rd 17: Carlton vs Western Bulldogs It was very disappointing to lose again.
[1] This week attracted only 14 voters, 4 less than this time last year. Thank you to everyone who voted. [2] The rating this week was 7.26, which represents a D+, more or less. [3] 15 players got a mention this week, which is better than expected for a loss.
Votes: Kreuzer, Matthew 231 Gibbs, Bryce 228 Docherty, Sam 148 Wright, Matthew 101 Jones, Liam 91 Kerridge, Sam 91 Curnow, Charles 60 Murphy, Marc 44 Plowman, Lachlan 36 Graham, Nick 34 Simpson, Kade 13 Fisher, Zac 5 Silvagni, Alex 3 Weitering, Jacob 3 Lamb, Jed 3

RD 18: Carlton vs Brisbane What a disaster! [1] Only 11 people voted this week, 5 less than last year's game. t is one of the lowest turnouts for the year. But it was in Brisbane and NOT on free to air TV. I didn't vote: I didn't even see any highlights, let alone a significant portion of the game. [2] Our rating, 6.82, was also very poor and represented some less than a D. [3] There were 13 players deemed worthy enough to get a mention. That is actually quite good, but probably represents the 2nd half better than the first.
Votes: Kreuzer, Matthew 267 Curnow, Charles 229 Wright, Matthew 99 Docherty, Sam 93 Petrevski - Seton, Sam 93 Jones, Liam 87 Murphy, Marc 74 McKay, Harrison 25 Fisher, Zac 19 Kerridge, Sam 12 Graham, Nick 12 Simpson, Kade 6 Williamson, Tom 6
Progressive Voting: 3414 - Kreuzer, Matthew (0) 2638 - Docherty, Sam (0) 2613 - Murphy, Marc (0) 2185 - Gibbs, Bryce (0) 1615 - Cripps, Patrick (0) 886 - Curnow, Charles (0) 842 - Jones, Liam (0) 822 - Simpson, Kade (0) 689 - Plowman, Lachlan (0) 675 - Wright, Matthew (0) 663 - Curnow, Edward (0) 532 - Casboult, Levi (0) 432 - Marchbank, Caleb (0) 405 - Rowe, Sam (0) 401 - Silvagni, Alex (0) 396 - Petrevski - Seton, Sam (0) 302 - Silvagni, Jack (0) 241 - Kerridge, Sam (0) 155 - Weitering, Jacob (0) 116 - Thomas, Dale (0) 108 - Williamson, Tom (0) 80 - Cuningham, David (0) 79 - White, Simon (0) 69 - Graham, Nick (0) 57 - Fisher, Zac (0) 27 - Macreadie, Harrison (0) 25 - McKay, Harrison (0) 3 - Lamb, Jed (0) 3 - Boekhorst, Blaine (0) 3 - Pickett, Jarrod (0)
Matthew Kreuzer is a comfortable 700+ votes ahead of the pack, with Docherty and Murphy only a few votes apart in 2nd and 3rd places. Gibbs is a distinct 4th and Cripps is a distinct 5th. The rest follow considerably behind.

Rd 19: Carlton vs Geelong
This was one of our worst performances for 2017; its only peers being the game against Port Adelaide and the 2 games against Richmond. The rating of 5.88 being the 2nd worst of the season. This represents a rating of E-. :( We had 17 voters this week - a considerable improvement over last week.
Votes: Casboult, Levi 246 Curnow, Charles 196 Petrevski - Seton, Sam 121 Murphy, Marc 83 Docherty, Sam 78 Kerridge, Sam 42 Jones, Liam 38 Gibbs, Bryce 21 McKay, Harrison 19 Fisher, Zac 14 Kreuzer, Matthew 10 Silvagni, Jack 10 Lamb, Jed 3 Simpson, Kade 2
Casboult was a comfortable winner this round. He had significant performance. Charlie Curnow was rated 2nd, followed by SPS. Gibbs and Simpson got mentions, but not to their form earlier this season. Same goes for Kreuzer.
Progressive Voting: 3424 - Kreuzer, Matthew (0) 2715 - Docherty, Sam (0) 2696 - Murphy, Marc (0) 2206 - Gibbs, Bryce (0) 1615 - Cripps, Patrick (0) 1082 - Curnow, Charles (0) 880 - Jones, Liam (0) 823 - Simpson, Kade (0) 777 - Casboult, Levi (0) 689 - Plowman, Lachlan (0) 675 - Wright, Matthew (0) 663 - Curnow, Edward (0) 517 - Petrevski - Seton, Sam (0) 432 - Marchbank, Caleb (0) 405 - Rowe, Sam (0) 401 - Silvagni, Alex (0) 312 - Silvagni, Jack (0) 283 - Kerridge, Sam (0) 155 - Weitering, Jacob (0) 116 - Thomas, Dale (0) 108 - Williamson, Tom (0) 80 - Cuningham, David (0) 79 - White, Simon (0) 71 - Fisher, Zac (0) 69 - Graham, Nick (0) 44 - McKay, Harrison (0) 27 - Macreadie, Harrison (0) 7 - Lamb, Jed (0) 3 - Boekhorst, Blaine (0) 3 - Pickett, Jarrod (0)

Rd 20: Carlton vs Essendon A typical game this season: just not being able to do it in the end. We had our chances, but we couldn't make them count.
[1] The rating this week was much higher (8.17, which is between a C and C+) and that does give a fair indication of what we produced. [2] 15 different layers managed a mention this week. That does show just how all round this performance was. [3] We did not have a large voting group this week. 14 people voted. Thank you to all who did. This was one better than the corresponding game last year. Votes: Kreuzer, Matthew 248 Jones, Liam 222 Murphy, Marc 193 Petrevski - Seton, Sam 128 Wright, Matthew 125 Docherty, Sam 102 Gibbs, Bryce 82 Thomas, Dale 50 Plowman, Lachlan 35 Casboult, Levi 12 Kerridge, Sam 12 Silvagni, Jack 6 Pickett, Jarrod 6 Curnow, Charles 3 Simpson, Kade 3
Progressives: 3672 - Kreuzer, Matthew (0) 2888 - Murphy, Marc (0) 2817 - Docherty, Sam (0) 2287 - Gibbs, Bryce (0) 1615 - Cripps, Patrick (0) 1101 - Jones, Liam (0) 1085 - Curnow, Charles (0) 826 - Simpson, Kade (0) 801 - Wright, Matthew (0) 789 - Casboult, Levi (0) 724 - Plowman, Lachlan (0) 663 - Curnow, Edward (0) 645 - Petrevski - Seton, Sam (0) 432 - Marchbank, Caleb (0) 405 - Rowe, Sam (0) 401 - Silvagni, Alex (0) 318 - Silvagni, Jack (0) 295 - Kerridge, Sam (0) 165 - Thomas, Dale (0) 155 - Weitering, Jacob (0) 108 - Williamson, Tom (0) 80 - Cuningham, David (0) 79 - White, Simon (0) 71 - Fisher, Zac (0) 69 - Graham, Nick (0) 44 - McKay, Harrison (0) 27 - Macreadie, Harrison (0) 9 - Pickett, Jarrod (0) 7 - Lamb, Jed (0) 3 - Boekhorst, Blaine (0)
Kreuzer probably has it won at this point. A 600+ vote lead with only a few rounds to go suggests he'll win. 2nd and 3rd, however, are very lose indeed. Murphy or Docherty will be 2nd and third, but the order is far from set. Gibbs and Cripps look pretty safe, but the only certainty is that we will be there.

Rd 21: Carlton vs West Coast in Perth Another one that got away, probably due to our inability to kick goals with the wind.
[1] The votes were few and far between this week. Only 9 people voted. This is 6 less than last year for the same round. I guess there simply were not enough of us able to see the game, let alone appreciate it enough to vote. [2] The rating, at 8.15, was quite good. We did show more than a little. This represents just over a C, which is not bad for a loss. [3] 12 different players got a mention. This has been a trend this year, and one I like.

Rd 22: Carlton vs Hawthorn - the Penultimate Round and the Ultimate Result! It was lovely to win.
[1] 16 players got votes in one of our most team-orientated performances. Very few players did not deserve a mention. [2] Voter turnout was still low, even for a significant win in Melbourne. There were 13 voter, 3 less than the corresponding game last year and almost half of what we had at the beginning of the season. [3] The rating of 9.74 represented a B+. This is the 2nd highest rating for 2017.
Votes: Murphy, Marc 315 Docherty, Sam 270 Jones, Liam 215 Kreuzer, Matthew 161 Lamb, Jed 90 Pickett, Jarrod 86 Curnow, Charles 71 Boekhorst, Blaine 45 Plowman, Lachlan 41 Weitering, Jacob 41 Kerridge, Sam 37 Gibbs, Bryce 30 Simpson, Kade 19 Fisher, Zac 19 Thomas, Dale 15 Byrne, Ciaran 4
This was Murphy's 6th BOG this season. Kreuzer has 7 BOG's. Cripps and Gibbs have 3 each. Gibbs was in the top 10 16 times this season.
Progressives: 3960 - Kreuzer, Matthew (0) 3502 - Murphy, Marc (0) 3087 - Docherty, Sam (0) 2462 - Gibbs, Bryce (0) 1615 - Cripps, Patrick (0) 1355 - Jones, Liam (0) 1355 - Curnow, Charles (0) 854 - Simpson, Kade (0) 811 - Plowman, Lachlan (0) 801 - Wright, Matthew (0) 789 - Casboult, Levi (0) 736 - Petrevski - Seton, Sam (0) 663 - Curnow, Edward (0) 504 - Kerridge, Sam (0) 432 - Marchbank, Caleb (0) 405 - Rowe, Sam (0) 401 - Silvagni, Alex (0) 318 - Silvagni, Jack (0) 268 - Weitering, Jacob (0) 189 - Thomas, Dale (0) 113 - Pickett, Jarrod (0) 108 - Williamson, Tom (0) 96 - Lamb, Jed (0) 89 - Fisher, Zac (0) 80 - Cuningham, David (0) 79 - White, Simon (0) 69 - Graham, Nick (0) 48 - Boekhorst, Blaine (0) 44 - McKay, Harrison (0) 27 - Macreadie, Harrison (0) 4 - Byrne, Ciaran (0)
It looks fairly settled at the top, but Murphy does have some chance of coming from behind.

Rd 23: Carlton vs Sydney in Sydney: What an awful way to finish a season, 2.8 quarters of real effort followed by going through the motions for a quarter and a bit. Seriously ugly.
[1] There were few voter this week, only 13 again. This is 4 less than for the disaster against the Drug Cheats last year. [2] Last week there were a LOT of players who deserved a vote. Not so this week. [3] The rating barely worth an E.
Votes: Kreuzer, Matthew 331 Weitering, Jacob 172 Murphy, Marc 132 Simpson, Kade 119 Curnow, Charles 66 Boekhorst, Blaine 40 Williamson, Tom 13 Docherty, Sam 7 Pickett, Jarrod 7 Graham, Nick 7
Final Votes: 4291 - Kreuzer, Matthew (332) 3634 - Murphy, Marc (133) 3094 - Docherty, Sam (7) 2462 - Gibbs, Bryce (0) 1615 - Cripps, Patrick (0) 1421 - Curnow, Charles (67) 1355 - Jones, Liam (0) 973 - Simpson, Kade (120) 811 - Plowman, Lachlan (0) 801 - Wright, Matthew (0) 789 - Casboult, Levi (0) 736 - Petrevski - Seton, Sam (0) 663 - Curnow, Edward (0) 504 - Kerridge, Sam (0) 441 - Weitering, Jacob (173) 432 - Marchbank, Caleb (0) 405 - Rowe, Sam (0) 401 - Silvagni, Alex (0) 318 - Silvagni, Jack (0) 189 - Thomas, Dale (0) 121 - Williamson, Tom (14) 120 - Pickett, Jarrod (7) 96 - Lamb, Jed (0) 89 - Fisher, Zac (0) 88 - Boekhorst, Blaine (40) 80 - Cuningham, David (0) 79 - White, Simon (0) 75 - Graham, Nick (7) 44 - McKay, Harrison (0) 27 - Macreadie, Harrison (0) 4 - Byrne, Ciaran (0)
This means that Matthew Kreuzer is the worthy winner of the 2017 Jim Park Award! He won by 660 votes over 2nd place getter, Marc Murphy. Analysis of voting and other pleasantries will follow soon.
In the mean time, all hail the winner, Matthew Kreuzer! He had a truly impressive 2017!

Thanks for all your great work on this crash. Much appreciated.
And yes, a worthy winner for sure. Would not be surprised if Krooz also wins the club B+F.

Well done Crash - although I suspect that Murphy will win the John Nicholls Medal.

Excellent effort Crash
If someone had told you at the start of the season that Liam Jones would finish 7th in this voting after playing only half a season you probably would have said to yourself "Beauty, it sounds like we've solved that forward problem ;)"
...or you would have told them to ..."Wake up to yourself, and don't spread bullcrap!"

Yes, you're right Lods. Great effort by Giant Slayer Jones.

I'd have been questioning my sanity, to be honest. I thought he was cooked. He's had the desire, but it never quite worked out as a forward. Down back he is excellent. He also got good votes in the Liston Trophy, so the VFL umps recognized his excellence.

Looking at the voting for the Jim Park: [1] Matthew Kreuzer: the big lad managed to garner 8 BOG's from us, the voters. He was in the top 10 another 12 times, meaning that in only 2 games did he not have a significant effect on the game. That is a great effort for a guy who hasn't been close before. Winning by 660 votes is basically 2 top games. Well done, Matthew Kreuzer!
[2] Marc Murphy: this has been Murphy's most consistent season. He had 6 BOG's, and was in the top 10 pace getters every single game. Now some of that has been when we were pretty ordinary, but that sort of consistency must serve him well when the John Nicholls is run.
[3] Sam Docherty managed only 1 BOG, but was in the top 10 a total of 19 times. That also shows the consistency that we have been looking for. Docherty remains one of our most important players. As it looks like he is gong to move into the midfield in the future, he will continue to produce huge amount of drive.
[4] Bryce Gibbs got 3 BOG's this year, but he was not as consistent as Docherty, Murphy or Kreuzer. Even so, he was very professional and was in the top 10 16 times.
[5] Patrick Cripps was 5th even missing a significant part of the season. He also managed 3 BOG's. Now, if he can only manage to survive for a whole season, he will challenge again for top spot.
[6] The first of the kids to really make an impact was Charlie Curnow. In the first half of the season he was in the top 10 only twice. In the 2nd half of the season he missed out only twice. He didn't get a BOG, but his development was excellent. Looking to big things from him in 2018 and beyond.
[7] Liam Jones: the 2nd of the real highlights. He played in the VFL for the 1st third of the season (where he managed to get the umpire's attention) before producing some of the most impressive defending we've seen for a long time. He was a real revelation. Only once from his rise to the seniors did he miss out on a top 10 effort.
[8] Alex Silvagni: he only managed a couple of games due to injury, but he made himself into a cult figure. There was only 1 completed game that he did not get a top 10 result. Had he played more, our already miserly defence would have been even better.
[9] Elder statesmen Ed Curnow and Simmo continued to show their worth. Ed's season was cut short by injury, but both he and Simmo were consistent performers. Neither got a BOG, but they were both regular top 10 performers. Simmo did not reach the heights that he has over the last couple of years, but he is still a major contributor in our defence.

And yet Murphy regularly fails to influence the course of a game.....very sadly.

It's amazing the time and effort you're willing to put in when you enjoy doing something - well done, Crash, I enjoy your weekly summaries.
It is interesting that the top 5 have all bar one BOG for the season. It is also interesting that two players that cause a bit of angst on this site - Murphy and Gibbs polled consistently well. We must have got some recruiting right considering Murph, Kreuz and Gibbs were top draft picks and those who voted on this site had them all in our top 4.
Depending which side of the fence you sit on, you call this a success, or it points to the absolute failure if Murph and Gibbs are top 4. Personally, I think it is a success and not their fault that they have been at the club that has been so poor at player development (IIRC Gibbs was put into the leadership in his debut season - crazy)

Not many!..."We're a 'champion team' (well...we're on the way to being one ;) :D) not a 'team of champions'..."
Our good performances this season have usually depended on all-round team performances and combination rather than depending on a Martin/Franklin performance by an individual.
But players like that are usually the difference between a 6 win year and a 15 win year....so we should probably get one....or make one out of material we already have (CC) ;);D

Good work Crash
I voted 54321 on every game except r21 West Coast and r23 Sydney and came up with...
Nice work; you're on the same page as our coaches! You may wish to keep it quiet though; the anti-Murphy, anti-Gibbs brigade will be accusing you of everything from improper dealings to bias ;)
I was pretty close to what the club came up with :D
