I called it...Wooooo
Go Blues
Somewhat unexpected, but we'll take it.
How the mighty have fallen in Sydney.
What a club debut from Cos.
Plenty of injuries to come out of the game though,
The media are talking Rohan up like he's a hero, but those who haven't been watching get on the AFL website and have a look at the replay.
Rohan was basically doing a Ziebell and came off worse, took his eyes off the ball, jumped front on with knee raised into Rowe who was chest marking the ball!
Being interviewed on 3AW now.
Curses, had a ticket but could not get there due to unforeseen events! Anyway great unexpected win today by the boys. Will try and find a replay. :)
I don't care how good or bad the opposition is, I love that winning feeling, and I love those 4 points. Well done to the lads - very proud and happy to get win No2.
I have no idea why Horse persisted with playing Buddy so far up the ground. Meh.
Great debut from Alex S.
Great debut agreed, if I recall correctly this isn't the first time he's touched up Buddy!
Mods, there are two post game threads.
Today's game was my last before moving to Perth in a few days. Thank you so much boys for bringing me a final moment of joy; it's been a pleasure.
Made another mistake keep playing Mills on Matt Wright who probably won us the game with his goals kicked and created...
Yes - that Matty Wright, what a find. He may well be our leading goal kicker this season as well.
If my memory serves me well, at the time of the trade most were talking up Kerridge as the good get and Wright as the steak knives. But I could be wrong.
Probably true, but I thought Mills saved them a few times, Wright is going at a pretty high efficiency at the moment in regards to maximising limited opportunities. 4 goals from 9 kicks is Betts like!
Add the ones he helped create too....
I called it..... Woooooo and will keep saying it ;D
Great breakout game for C Curnow and how about that cousin COS. (I think Murph called ASOS)
And Krooooooooooze
And the Bolt
And Wright
And .......
Great win by the boys, if we can turn games into a fight we go OK.
What a difference Matty Kreuzer makes eh?
Kudos to Nick Graham, I've never been a rap for him but he didn't put a foot wrong today and mixed it up with the best of them, great game from Doc as well.
Conditions suited Graham, bit slippery, lots of ground ball, not sure he's the man for Etihad Stadium. Horses for courses is my preferred policy, he's capable of dealing with a Swans type physical game style though, and good form has been rewarded.
His ball use today was better than I've seen from him in the past, still just 22 so there's scope for improvement.
Nice win, for the first time in a looooong time we had some structure in our forward line. ????
- Dare I say it kroozer had a bit of the brad ottens about him today
- tommy williamson, take a bow, backed himself in and halved so many contests he actually had no right to. Allowed Simmo to push up the ground
- sps, sometimes tries things that aren't on but love that he is creative and not frightened
- Charlie wasn't as good as last week but still linked up nicely, that mark in the third to set up simmo runnning thru ????
- Cripps, murph, Ed stood up well
- and Alex silvagni, welcome mate sensational debut.
Fair play to the match committee, picked a good side that gave us a chance and the players clearly believed. Well coached today also
Yep, stupid stuff from Rohan, a bloke I have never rated.
Fine four quarter effort today, no passengers. I hope Jack just got a stinger, he's already had one shoulder reco.
I think it's his other shoulder, they are saying fracture free it will be four weeks.
Apparently Kreuz also went off injured - any details available?
I thought Weitering was great today along with C Curnow provided us with a link through half forward that we often haven't had.
Williamson provided strong contests and good run.
A Silvagni was great today.
Dr Larkin reckons he was fine!
Exactly!
Now that he has been cleared of serious injury, I'm quite comfortable stating that he copped what he deserved. He quite clearly attempted to hurt Rowe with an unrealistic, poorly disguised attempt to mark/spoil. Rowe bravely took the mark but I don't think the umpire was going to pay a free.
If the MRP was serious Rohan should be cited.
Yes, no way you want to see any player seriously injured, but that was 100% his fault - dumb, unprofessional, uncoordinated. Whatever he was attempting, that's an epic fail.
Rowe is rapidly becoming one of my top 5 fav players.
x2. Should be cited for charging or unduly rough play. The fact that he knocked himself out, well, that's karma.
Cramped up when he marked in goaled from the square.
Seven months ago, we were all watching the Grand Final saying 'How far off these two sides are we!!' Tides can turn both ways very quickly!!
Why worry about Rohan, he's OK and we scored a goal from that passage of play.
Instead lets talk about Williamson, Samo, Fisher, CC ..... outstanding in patches but a serious glimpse of what is to come.
Docherty - B&F form. Simmo back to form.
I wonder if the Buddy cheap shot galvanised the group before the bounce, we looked to hunt in packs today.
It was funny to listen to Roos defend Sydney, stating that they had so many young players in their side. Hannberry, Kennedy, Parker, Buddy, Reid, Sinclair...... some perennial AA players and grand finalists in those 6.
Great win, can't wait to watch it again.
I havent seen the replay yet, but Cos's chase down of the player going for the certain goal was team lifting stuff (was the city end and my eyes aren't great, I'm punt road end).
The cheers that went up from the supporters every time buddy was deprived of the ball was spine tingling. I think they were cheering the boys on for the effort required to get the ball back every time buddy threatened to do something.
The thing that stood out for me, especially the first 12 - 13 mins of the 3rd quarter was how we didn't do any silly turnovers and gifted them easy goals.
Not to sure if they showed it on TV but right on the first bounce our boys swarmed buddy and were giving it to him, I'm not to sure what happened there but i enjoyed it.
Went to the game, great win. The boys seemed to adjust tactics after qtr time. The mids all clamped down on their mids and didnt let them clear the ball. They also tackled much better and ensured they brought them to ground. If you let them stand up on the tackle, they get it out more often than not. Alex Silvagni take a bow. Rowe supurb again as was Doc (something like 90% plus DE). He and Simmo had it 70 times btw them. Great effort across the board, as someone said, no passengers. But the standout for me was the Big Tractor. Ran himself into the ground for 4 qtrs. Best game I have seen him play in a very long time. And we battled the umps all day, some shocking decisions. McInerney you are a disgrace, retire already, the game has passed you by. Anyway, not getting too excited, we only beat the bottom team ;D ;D ;D
Herald sun has no report of the game, just the Rohan incident.
They have already been hauled over the coals for biased reporting this year.
So glad they hate us winning so much
Maybe warming him up on the wing is SpecialK's thing!
Just got back from the game. One of the best wins I've watched in many years.
What I loved most was we had 7 players in under 21 and when a seasoned outfit and one that has a lot of pride staring down a 0/6 start came at us at the end of the 3rd term I thought they would run over us. We looked done. Weitering was cooked and being down a rotation most of the day looked to be taking a big toll on the younger bodies.
But we re charged at 3QT and then blew me away with their desire and effort in the last when several more players
looked very sore. To run away from a very mentally tough team and yes I know they haven't won a game and I don't care - they would have wanted the win and the Carlton teams of the past would have rolled over in the past against a seasoned and tough opposition....but this one didn't.
Bolton gets questioned a lot on here about the clubs willingness to play young kids when they look a little sore well I watched some real character today and I think these guys getting used to playing thru some niggles have instilled it in them. He said they need to be comfortable with being uncomfortable he said there need to endure. Well that toughness helped us get the win today and I have no doubt will hold us in good stead.
Very proud with how we are going. Charlie marchbank and Williamson.....amazing to watch how much we are getting from some an inexperienced group.
Special mention to our big number 8. Been saying it for ages but have to re sign him to a decent extension. Does any player give more then him?
Bring on the pies.
Apart from dropping a pic in the first. His kick to kruezer in the last was very good.
fantastic win, hard, fierce intensity and you can see, they weren't prepared to get hurt.
A silvagni is the grunt down back we've needed and probably the reason we were able to hold on.
Pleasing win, great effort.
Next week will be buckleys last game
The Silvagni "blanket superstar forward in heroic fashion" gene needs to be studied, isolated and patented by the CFC.
Just got home from the game.
Thought Simmo was bog. Was our everywhere man.
Cos got to contests through sheer determination, contests he had no right to get to but wouldnt give up.
Kruez fantastic.
I wanna make special mention of Bòult. For all the crap he cops on this site and the media, my God he works hard.
Williamson could be the best pick of all of them this yr. Gun.
Fisher is so composed with the ball. Loving him too.
Imo, Weiters needs a rest. Looks injured to me.
How nice is it to walk back to your car , smiling after a win. Thanks boys.????????????????????????????????????
Could be more about warming up the Boult before sending him forward....
To be fair, it IS a bigger story.
The report will come, if its not there already.
Rohan nearly killed himself. Had it been against anyone else on our list, he probably would've killed them! Hero? Hardly.
How can it be Rowe doesn't get a free, it seems bizarre!
My understanding is that the minute a player takes his eye off the ball and looks at the player, it's pretty much an automatic free. I was also wondering why Rowe wasn't paid.
True - and add the push grundy did on SOJ in the goal square im the first quarter.
No free there.
Then 45 secs later kruezer rag dolls Sinclair all within 5 metres and is pinged for it.
Very frustrating.
Certainly a huge turnaround from last week which tells me we really were sore and sorry after the Suns game at Etihad.
Fantastic to see BB focus on our post-half time fadeouts. Giving him full credit for the blitz at the beginning of Q3.
Alex Silvagni - where have you been all my life? Loving the composure of Williamson, can't wait till he bulks up a little.
Wright - I'm sure he has missed a goal in the last 12 months, just can't recall seeing it!
Relieved to hear Rohan is ok - looked sickening at the ground. Very silly on his part. My son refuses to run back with the flight of the ball to mark citing a certain fondness for his life (my words, not his). I won't be trying to dissuade him from what is a sound strategy.
Rowe took the mark didn't he?
Sometimes the simplest answer is the right one.
Definitely took (and got paid) the mark.
A free kick always takes precedence over a mark. It was inconsequential because Rowe marked and played on but the umpire still should have paid the free.
If ever there was a time to review the inconsistencies in the free kick rules (especially the 50m component) this would be it.
On the one hand, something completely innocuous like moving into the protected zone after a mark gives away a 50 - on the other hand somebody cops a crazy Joe Davola karate kick to the chest/neck (could've easily struck him in the head), and a simple mark is deemed sufficient ?
I call suss. Extremely suss.
Yes, Rowe stands his ground, bears the full brunt of Rohan's impact (an airborne Rohan with one leg well in front of him), but no mention of Rowe's bravery ?
Yes, a 50 metre penalty would have been appropriate in this case, but not according to the rules as they stand.
I take Raydan's point about celebrating our win and the good form of our young blokes but it's clear to me that Rohan's intention was to hurt Rowe. Fortunately Rowe is big and strong enough to take the hit but imagine if it was Simpson, Samo or Fisher attempting to mark.
I repeat my call for a footy mum to be appointed to the MRP.
Just home from the game the 4 hour travel after the game was very pleasnant for a change well done boys .CC is going to be a great player for our club when you watch him live you see the distance he runs to make position and if he gets it or not he gets on hes bike and runs again .I thought when the pressure was on it was crippa doc and simmo that really stood up. at any rate early to bed get up early and catch a big cod and make it a perfect weekend
And a win for Cripps' 50th.
Couldn't watch the game due to some (paid via CFC) live pass stuffup >:D
The only game that hasn't worked - talk about frustrating. Looking forward to watch the replay.
From posts I've read, sounds like the mix of youth and experience was perfect. Is ASOS our secret weapon or what?? Having 10 goalkickers is great news. Even Simmo got a nice running goal. Maybe his additional freedom served him well. Lots of mention (radio) about Sammo and why we went for him. He's surely up for RS nomination soon (he's 5th overall first yr on afl).
Oh, did Buddy play :)) :)) didn't hear commentators crooning about Budweiser.
Saw Rohans unrealistic leap at Rowe ??? What was that? Again lots of positive comments about Rowe. Agree his worth is understated in some arena's. Noticed the Port monster he took care of last week kicked a bag today. I guess his craft is much about chocking opponents opportunity, rather than his own possies. On the stats, we had 79 tackles and equal contested poss, and a reasonable DE. Hallelujah ;D
Great to see the boys break the swans winning streak.
Hope Crippa celebrates his 50th as he deserves.
Going to a game easily beats watching on TV. Might be going to a few more now...
Three concerns were the awful dropped chest marks in the first qtr, Cas' ball drop. Horrifying seeing it live. The last is the amount of energy it takes to recover from a basic skill error - reduce some of them and it makes life easier
it was great to be there and see the contribution that everyone made and not have to worry about commentary. COS was great - got to contests time and time again. Smedts did some handy things and Graham was very good. Great to see Simpson and Krooz play great games and Cas was excellent. Plenty of others as well - just thought I'd mention them.
Now for duplication of effort next week.
A lot of love on here for A Silvagni and deservedly so but gee there was a lot of criticism about his selection pre-season so it's kinda amusing.
Can't believe the boys got the win today and gee after watching the replay WTF is going on with Sydney? A shadow of a team that contested for a flag. Still you're only as good as you opposition and our blokes were relentless. I like the way they're trying to improve their ball movement. Trying not to waste a kick. Work in progress but very exciting to watch.
Hard to pick a bad player today.
Really liking Williamson.
CCurnow. Gee he looks like something.
Doc was awesome today.
Kreuz is a juggernaut
MurphyGibbs solid again
Backline great.
Lot's of injury concerns this week. I hope they don't play the young blokes under duress.
If we only win one more game this year please God let it be next week. Please!
Where do you fish Slugger
A lot to like today.
How many times Sydney tried a quick scrubby kick out of a pack and it went nowhere. They were completely outplayed at every clearance which is a pretty dire sign considering it's what their game is based around.
Love Williamson. Could he get a rising star nomination? I'd wonder if he could win it but he plays for Carlton so is automatically excluded from anything involving judges.
And that was Curlie's best game for the club. That mark in the centre square was gold.
From before the first bounce and right throughout the game, they tried to bully us at every opportunity and we didn't flinch once. We don't have any enforcers as such, but a group who are not intimidated and back each other up. Don't think we've seen that for a while.
Simple answer, Shane McInerney, the guy is a disgrace.
I'll put my hand up.
I didn't understand his recruitment then, and in context of where we currently are, it barely makes sense.
Playing a sterling match in his first game is much more than I expected from him, and I thought it would be a waste of time and position.
I'll concede that I was wrong.
I still don't understand why we needed to do this, instead of a youngster.
I guess you don't need enforcers if everyone looks after themselves and their team mates.
Casboult had the defenders intimidated but through his attack on the ball rather than thuggery.
Interestingly, we seemed to have a plan to get stuck into Wright's opponent Mills. He was tackled, bumped, pushed, elbowed and verbally harassed mercilessly. In the last quarter he was gang tackled and you could see the tacklers getting into his ear. When he was released Wright got stuck into him physically and verbally. That we continued the tactic until the end of the game suggests a long term objective.
A youngster would not have the strength and experience to do what ASOS did yesterday. A youngster would not have been able to stand Buddy for long periods like ASOS. A youngster would not have been close to BOG. There's your answer.
Good to hear that our unsociability index is on the rise. Putting opposition players on their asses, legally of course, is always good for morale.????
I could not believe Alex's closing speed today, I never knew he was that quick.
Thry, we have bought in a lot of youngsters.
Alex was bought in to help with their development by supplying some experience and muscle.
He did a superb job on Franklin and we may well have lost that game if Buddy had been able to play at his best.
I reckon Alex has already earn't his spot on the rookie list.
I can have a stab....
Obviously someone identified in Silvagni the very characteristics he displayed yesterday.
Now if you're one of our youngsters watching how he played and the effort he gave and the very genuine respect he received from some of the senior players after the game...what have you learned?
You've learned performance and effort will get you a call-up no matter what stage of your career you're at and you've learned that if you work hard and stick to your task you'll earn respect.
Watching Silvagni yesterday was a probably a much more valuable learning experience for some of them than being thrashed by Port Adelaide the week before.
It's why that balance of senior and younger players is important...as long as you have the right type of senior player.
I barely watched him at Freo, so I also had no idea.
It's not a knock on the kids. You have to be realistic about what they can and can't do. That chase down in the goal square (with Willo) was team lifting stuff.
This is where i'm at with the whole situation.
No doubt he played a blinder. But long term, if we continue to play him, blokes like Macreadie will be left out because of it. Is that what we really want?
Our backline is already the most experienced part of our team with Simpson and Rowe marshalling the troops, B+F winner Docherty playing beyond his years and steady partners in crime Marchbank and Plowman looking settled. A. Silvagni is not really required down there for experience.
As best i can tell he was recruited simply to play on Buddy. Club put up a video during the week showing he's done it before. What now?
I'm an advocate of this, and certainly the right type of player which COS appears to be. But we need a COS for the forwardline, not the backline. The backline is pretty solid already.
Could we not have recruited a 'COS forward equivalent' instead?
Pauly he had the of the crowd around me in a frenzy every time he did something. We stood and clapped every one of the efforts. It was evident too his teams appreciated the efforts also, they came from all parts of the ground to pat him on the head.
Just on the point of camaraderie, it was at a level Ive not seen at our club in a long time yesterday. Every big effort or special play was met with encouragement from many players coming in from everywhere, young and old. I was very pleased indeed to see this.
Listening to the various post match pressers, it seems he is affectionately known around the club ASOS.
If what Bolton said last week is true, about players getting picked on form, then Alex will be first picked next week. You cannot have both a "picked on form" and a "play the kids" policy. The kids will not always be in form, and will not always be able to do the job.
It's ACoS, as in
Alex
Cousin
of
SOS.
They pronounce it "ACEoS" as in AC/DC, it was given to him as a nickname by Murphy!
If you listen to his post match interview with Debolfo, at the end Tony mentioned the Collingwood game and whether he is looking forward to it, Alex's reply suggested he is very confident of playing next week.
I want to ask a question about player ratings.
I hadn't looked at the official AFL player ratings until today, but as I understood it from the newspapers and websites like Foxtel, Murphy who has had a stellar start to 2017 was rated highly, some had him ranked 1st.
Today I go to the, AFL Schick Player Ratings and find Dangerfield ahead of the field by a 20% margin, Murphy is ranked in 153rd place!
By his standards and as rated by the media, Dangerfield is having an ordinary start to 2017 and is not even in the 2017 top 30, plenty of possessions but turning the ball over a lot!
I realise that there are significant differences in the way these systems work, for example the AFL system works on the last 40 games. But it seems the the AFL website is a little deceptive in that is doesn't represent form very well. You would have thought 5 or 6 straight weeks of high output at the start of a season should see a player rank fairly highly in the official system, especially given in AFL it is rare for any player to have more than 10 or 12 dominant games in any season.
A lot has been said about many players and they are all deserving of praise for a solid team effort. I would just like to add my thoughts on a couple of players.
First of all, I thought that Nick Graham really looked like he belonged out there. I had written him off but it seems that I was wrong ... again!
I wasn't expecting ACOS to get a call up (who is he replacing on the list?) but he just carried on with the form he has been showing in the NBs. I think it was Murph who said that you stay away from ACOS at training because he tackles so fiercely. I'm not sure that ACOS will be a regular player but he will be if he can maintain that form.
Finally, I have to acknowledge Simmo's game. He was back to his best and I am revising my prediction that he will retire at the end of the season.
Seemed to play further up the ground in a role that gave him more freedom.
Possibly, or did he just take the game on and create more opportunities. Either way, he is great to watch when he's in that form.
I'd like to see him continue to hit the scoreboard and deliver the ball inside 50.
that goal he kicked surprised him i think - looked a bit startled that he was in space and had the time to have a crack. yep, great game by him. indeed a real team effort again.
Alex Silvagni did exactly what he did for freo and what he did in the preseason and what he did in the VFL.
What's not to get.
Happy that Rohan is ok, BUT
Bit of a sliding doors moment, say he got up from that incident without injury, Would he be looking at a possible suspension for his reckless attempt at a spoil that could have potentially taken Rowes head off ??
I get that the AFL community as a whole is concerned for his health, but when you look at the incident, everything about it is reckless, with Rowe imo, very lucky not to receive a serious injury.
Having ASOS in the back line benefited the team in at least 2 ways :
1. giving the older blokes another experienced head to share the load
2. allowed Siimmo to play further up the ground to show us skills I had long forgotten, and be a genuine creative playmaker. Some of those shimmies, swerves etc. in the center square were Ablett-like. Beautiful to watch.
I'm not an advocate of play the kids at all costs. The only criterion for team selection is 22 players who give us the best chance of winning the game.
If our senior / experienced players are as crap as people say, and our kids are as good as people say, then the kids will get their chances sooner rather than later, without some dopey ageist policy that gifts them games.
I think Mills likes to mouth off a bit... I think the GWS got stuck into him last week as well.
We should start a petition.
This one gets 4 weeks....
[flash=854,480]https://www.youtube.com/v/q4ySTzFeW5g[/flash]
This one gets told how brave he is...
[flash=854,480]https://www.youtube.com/v/jykAbQ0zZoM[/flash]
I was watching the Ch7 footy show before - Game Day? - and they had Heeny on who was talking about having Glandular Fever, saying how if he doesn't get adequate rest he still feels knocked around now and even after exercise he feels depleted. Think some people had unrealistic expectations of CCurnow in previous games...
Other thing - Hodge is on that show. They were talking about Asos and Buddy and they briefly showed the vision of Buddy hitting Asos in the throat and Hodge dismissed it, saying oh Buddy just getting a little frustrated there.... BY WHAT? the game hadn't even started yet ffs. Of course no one continued discussing it ::)
Summed up nicely.
Being able to use simmo near the ball is a big win. Having our spiritual leader around the action is huge for our kids. Was involved in nearly every thrust forward that resulted in a score when game was on the line in the 3rd quarter.
Plus Doc also seems to be playing further up field at times which means our ball use and run looks so much better and our entries in F50 are also of a higher standard making our forwards job a lot easier.
Marchbank, Williamson and now Silvagni has helped this all happen.
I have said many times that I don't rate Nick Graham but I must say, he came in yesterday and after some early nerves, did a solid job.
Docherty was named on the wing. I'm not sure that he actually played there but he was definitely more of a presence up the ground. Both he and Simmo got back into defence when needed.
I think that Bolton and co may have changed the defensive structure after opposition teams put a lot of work into Docherty.
I could only watch the game on one third of my iPad screen and I couldn't really get a grasp of positional moves.
Crippa about to be on the Sunday Footy Show on Ch9 for those interested.
Cop that for media bias, the first question Cornes raises is when Cripps leaving Carlton and returning to WA!
Not about the football game, not about training, development or anything else, but when are you leaving Carlton!
It's downright disrespectful!
But slow of mind and foot but as the game wore on, and it slows down he was of great benefit where the kids start strong and fade. That's why the balance was great yesterday.
Cripps also finished strong as the game slows
LP it is afterall Kane Cornes who is the biggest knob going around. He copped alot over his story a the time about Cripps going home. The fwit thought Cripps would say something to vindicate his story. He really is an A class imbecile.
Isn't he a fully subscribed member of a family dynasty of knobheads?
Yes it is. How did he respond?
And if there is a bigger knob then Cornes its the guy sitting beside him.
They asked the flog Lloyd what is a pass mark for the blues and he said based on yesterday's performance they will win more games this year then last year!
Only a month ago he wanted the AFL to investigate us cause he said we were a basket case.
Can't stand looking at him.
Treated it with all respect it deserved. Said he signed a 3 year extention because he wanted to show commitment to the club. That is, he said "Cornes you're a knob".
Mate he is towards the top of my list in the "I just want to punch you in the face Club", along with Goodard, Beveridge, Cornes, Mark Stevens, Ling and Darcy.
At least Lloyd accepts that he was wrong and has reassessed. Knobhead Cornes is sticking with a position that everyone knows is just wrong.
That was my favourite part of the game. How long since we bullied someone in a swans jumper? He mentally disintegrated by the third quarter too. Missing handballs, missing tackles, rushing everything and his man kicked 4 on him.
Love it.
Matty Wright... becoming one of my absolute favourites.
If he'd played against gold coast would we have won?
His presence would have increased our chances of winning, based on what I saw yesterday.
Pity we couldn't nail that Melbourne win. 3-3 would've been nice.
Wright is my fav player at the club, one that Bolton doesnt have to coach, and if you go to the games you see Wright organising other players down forward and having plenty to say.
He has been played up the ground the last few games and we have missed him down forward.
Longmire should have moved Mills onto the ball or down forward IMO....reckon his tenure at the Swans might be short as he doesnt seem to want to admit they need rejigging unlike Clarkson'who has signalled big changes if the Hawks dont shape up...
Been saying this since he came to the club, it is so noticeable when he pushes into the midfield or onto a wing, we breakdown in the fwd line. I know he can play anywhere but I want him in the fwd line full time as thats where we need him most and is most damaging.
Oh gees, don't get me started on the AFL live pass abomination. So finally decided to pull the pin & fork out last night. Tried on the PC first up for a "Live Pass"......credit card payment wouldnt' go through, despite having no problem with it all weekend at shops, bars, restaurants etc etc. Thought I'd then try the version on the App Store (which I understand is slightly different....wft?), anyway, subscribed for this & all ready to go .......and what do I see, only 2nd & 4th quarters are available of the "Full Match Replay !!!!"
what a pile of ****.
Memo to the AFL, if you are going to force people to pay for every single bit of content, you need to make sure that the content is there asap when people want to watch it.
I'll try again tonight.
as an aside......GO Blues !!!
cheers
Mal
Yep.
Not to mention that the actual match wasnt watchable on saturday live. For those of us with prior engagements such as christenings, this lead to extreme frustration. Didnt see a kick until the end of the second quarter and then only got to watch the last ten minutes of the game.
Very dissapointing.
They had similar issues against Port Adelaide the week prior, when the game had started but all you could watch was pre game rubbish.
I will NOT pay a brass razoo for Live Pass as I believe that even on a tablet PC the picture is only phone screen size. I figure a complete boycott is the best policy. If a lot of people do the same maybe the knobheads at the AFL will get the message?
The performance was sometimes pretty cr@ppy anyway - prone to buffering issues etc. Technically I suspect the underlying infrastructure is not up to it - crap product at a premium price IMO - Foxtel is calling the shots.
I'm with Telstra so I get it for nothing. Bit frustrating Saturday when it didn't work until late in the 2nd qtr although I could only watch periodically.
That's just about what it's worth IMO Jim.
Interesting that a couple of the other panel members seemed to give it to Cornes over his questioning.
It's rubbish, even for Telsra customers.
Whatever they did at the end of last season to lock out the SmartReplay users and re-organise the service has made things even worse.
As for Telstra, I have Telstra home lines and a couple of mobiles on Telstra yet the system keeps denying me access to the replays. It won't accept our home number or mobile numbers as valid Telstra numbers, and hardly ever works from a PC or tablet. I've been logged in via the App and via the Telstra website only for it to tell me I need a subscription!
I've complained several times but you get nowhere with the plebs, once you get high enough up the chain of command someone apologises and sorts it out! Whatever they do, gets done at their end. Further I don't know how many times I've had one of them say after they've added a charge to my phone bills, "Hang on that's not right, you're a Telstra customer you don't need a subscription it's included free, I'll reverse those charges." So Beware!
Even when I get it working it only lasts a few weeks or a month or so and I get kicked off again and have to rinse and repeat the whole support cycle.
Further, the new system of serving the game is incredibly flaky as reported, the old SmartReply systems use to operate like clockwork with the full game appearing 17hrs after the finish. I never had an issue, and could screen-share full screen to the TV.
The new App and Website gives you a small screen surrounded by a huge black border if you try to screen-share. My son described watching it was like Telstra thought screen-sharing was gluing your phone or tablet to the TV! There is a work-around available, but that shouldn't be required for a service you are effectively paying for as a Telstra customer or subscriber!
I thought perhaps it was just me, but my next-door neighbour has a full Telstra FTTP NBN broadband connection with Telstra TV and Tesltra Gateway, he spends hours trying to get games to play without stuttering or freezing. He's effectively given up on it! Twice Telstra have sent out techs to his house after he complained and they tell him there is nothing wrong with the connection or hardware, it's a server problem.
We both stream ESPN from the USA or Europe, or Youtube live-feeds like the NB vs Coburg game yesterday, almost flawlessly! We can watch streaming services like Stan or Netflix without a problem, but AFL nada!
Overall, I rate the AFL Telstra service a 1 out of 10, they're just pulling our legs, they aren't serious about it!
I had to buy a subscription this year as I am living away from home for work and dont have foxtel. Luckily Ive been able to watch a few games on 7mate, but I have watched a couple on AFL live.
The main thing that p1sses me off is having to wait 12 hours for a replay. annoying when you get home from work and can't watch the game until after work tomorrow!
I have downloaded a google chrome add on that allows me to stream it to my TV. It isnt too bad, occasionally goes a bit fuzzy, and occasionally stutters, but overall, better than watching on a 13" laptop screen.
Fortunately the game was on 7mate on the weekend so I was able to watch it on TV, but I'd have been pretty p1ssed if I missed the game because of website issues, then had to wait to watch a replay, and they didn't offer me a discount or something to make up for it.
The replay of the interview is on the CFC FB page and I thought Cripps handled it really well - Cornes looked sheepish and they didn't give him any leeway with it
What they are saying is "Buy Foxtel!" >:(
I have not had any problems other than Telstra and Apple both charging me for the subscription despite me telling them I only needed one (from Apple). Are the Telstra and Apple versions different?
problems galore for me too. Telstra customer to boot!
It's gotta be by design....
My neighbor had Foxtel bundled with his Telstra broadband and offloaded it because they kept changing the channel mix in his Foxtel subscription. He said the $30/month soon became $75 just to keep watching the same stuff, felt ripped off!
It certainly seems Foxtel is being pushed by Telstra.
I don't know how it works GTC but I would imagine the subscription via Apple would be processed via the Apple store and communication with the Telstra/AFL environment would then be required. My wife uses MS Outlook on Apple and has had numerous issues which I don't get on my Windows PC or my Android tablet, so I guess it's probably a case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand is up to?
I think Nick Graham deserves an honourable mention re his efforts, particularly in the first half. Earned his place.
I've heard so many people say this.
Admittedly, i only had one eye on the TV as the rugrats were causing havoc, but everytime i saw Graham he was dropping marks and fumbling. :-\
I must admit, A for effort, but didnt see too much in Graham's game to be particularly enthused about.
I remain unconvinced on Graham...had him as reasonable vs the Swans, will probably hold his spot and it was good to see him get
some development time, but nothing he did was of a high standard...IMO.
I watched him pretty closely. He runs his butt off trying to make himself an option for a short pass. He literally doesn't stop. Can't fault him for that.
He lets himself down a bit with chasing. He's just that bit too slow and needs to hurt the opposition more going the other way. To play the way he plays successfully you need to be elite by foot. He aint that so if he wants a career that's his challenge. Become a Sam Mitchell level kick. Otherwise it's not going to work out.
Agree completely with that assessment jeza.
Add 7 to his number and people will pretty easily. ;)
Yes, he dropped a sitter, as did Simmo and Kreuz around the same time... there was this bizarre period of 5 minutes early in the game where everyone seemed to fumble and drop easy chest marks! Simmo's dropped chest mark cost us a goal.
Not saying I think Graham is in our best 22 but I just wanted to give him some acknowledgment and kudos for his efforts on Saturday, one of his much better games. And, yes, too slow and disposal by foot is suss, but he did his bit in tight and when the contest was willing.
Graham is a workhorse, made things a lot easier for our star midfielders who were woeful the week prior.
He's also happy to stand up for himself and others, which is good to see in our team.
One thing we've improved leaps and bounds this year is hitting up the little 20m passes down the wing. It's something the good teams do really well as it prevents you having to bomb 50m to a contest on the HFF.
Graham was really good for presenting and constant movement which helped this a lot - as mentioned. Even when he didn't get the ball he gave the opposition something to worry about creating spaces for others.
I was at the game and thought he worked his butt off, was impressed and definitely deserves his spot. Interesting though I have watched the replay twice now and hardly noticed him, different perspective when you can see the whole ground and not just the view on the TV.
Agree NN, I definitely noticed his high workrate at the game, not so much on the replay.
His effort and leadership were sorely missed on the weekend. Those poor kids (however many there were) just had no idea where to stand.
In the pre bounce scuffle instigated by Buddy (link below) , note A Slivagni's attacked on Papley. Strong, forceful and uncompromising......great to see. Having Silvagni. Rowe and White down in that area, makes Marchbank, Plowman, Williams etc just walk that little taller!
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/teams/carlton/carlton-defender-caleb-marchbank-nominated-for-afl-rising-star-award/news-story/530f88b9bad41d5c3fd29fb352a18e74
By all reports, Marchy doesnt need anyones assistance to walk tall. Someone also said he is as quiet as a mouse off the field but when he crosses the line, he turns into a psycho competitive animal (ala Peter Dean).
FWIW, Weiters is the very same, church mouse after hours and off field, when he hits the paddock it's white line fever!
And that's exactly what you want!
I just hope that when we get to GWS we employ the 'Callum Mills tactics' on that smart ar$e Toby Greene.
x2...Real tough guy..not... is Greene...whacked the smallest player on the park in Caleb Daniel last match and needs a lesson taught...
Dont see Greene mentally disintegrating like Mills so I would forget the sledging ,just get in first and belt the carp out of him at every opportunity...
I really think this hasn't been given the attention it requires.
I'm really thrilled Rohan escaped serious injury but his actions need to be addressed.
Had he not been injured there is little doubt he'd be missing weeks.
The fact that he hurt himself should not excuse the actions.
He could have done serious injury to Rowe.
He could have done serious injury to himself.
So in an identical incident any player cited can now point to the video of Rohan and say "There was no penalty here I should be OK".
This is why a medical report shouldn't be anything to do with a penalty.
I heard "experts" explain this incident as Gary misjudging the ball in the air and ensuring he made a contest after committing to try and win it as explanation for this wreckless action.
I think the term you are looking for is
"eggspurts"! :o
The variability in the Ziebell / Rohan decisions / non-decisions is key to why the MRP and AFL have got things so wrong. Let's not even introduce the Gibbs sling tackle relative to other events. The MRP is clearly untenable in the long term, player contracts signed or not, I suspect it's going to eventually lead to litigation one day.
What Rohan did endangered Rowe. I think Rohan was lucky he picked a seasoned AFL player and experienced ruckmen to do this to, Rowe basically turned his body like he would in a ruck contest and Rohan effectively self-harmed. If it had been someone like Weitering or Marchbank things could have turned very nasty!
If you want to get these issues highlighted, now is a really good time to write a letter to the editor of any Fairfax rag. While the journalist/blogger strike is on the management are desperate for ideas and content!
As others have mentioned, he (Rohan) was never in the contest, was never going to get there to make a contest AND he took his eyes off the ball completely.....
Nothing brave in it and he should have got done....
I actually put that on facebook and tagged the AFL as well.
Donuts.
I never thought there was even a slim chance that Rohan would get cited, but i'd hoped that the question was at least asked on some footy shows. Nope.
How could such a brave bloke be cited?
It may have been different if Rohan hadn't been injured but it is quite clear to me that Rohan's sole intention was to hurt Rowe. He looked directly at him and leapt so that his knees would collect Rowe's upper body and head. At no stage did he try to mark or spoil.
I reckon Rowe can consider himself lucky that he wasn't done for tunnelling >:(
I reiterate my suggestion that ex-footballers be removed from the MRP and one of the replacements be a footy mum.
