SPS.... a star!
SPS no doubt about it.
SPS rising star nomination. I'm going early but he's due!
SPS for me too - absolutely exciting, smart, clean use, hard working - loving watching him play
You left out composed. ;)
Another one for Sammo. :D
Let's not ignore Caleb Marbank....a 'veteran' of how many games?? Along with SPS, he just looks like he belongs. Courageous, cool, sure hands and exquisite timing!
Agree, but today was Sammo's moment in the sun. Big game, big stage, nothing phases the kid. Has that Weitering type maturity, most probably due to his upbringing. A real credit to his family.
Casboult's snap on his non preferred.
Almost fell of the bar stool when that happened PaulP , would I be close to saying his only goal on the left boot?
Not sure Rob. But I never thought I'd see the day when he'd be confident enough to even try it. And his non reaction after it was gold. As if it was no biggie.
i
he will be an elite, without a doubt. Still working out the angles/options but he moves through traffic like a ghost....
Its Caleb for me, but I was spoiled for choices this week. His ability to read the ball and be in the right place was breathtaking.
An absolute gem!
And the couple of blues he made? he went straight back in and sorted things out.
This guy will win a Brownlow.
The ABC commentary team agree with you. Well at least Sellars does.????
The coaching team! BB and the boys 8)
Did a great job shifting the chess pieces. ;D
But I suppose we have some cattle on the park now ;)
If he continues as he currently is, should absolutely romp in the rising star.
Load up!
I don't think Daisy's goal really qualifies as a green shoot and there's been a lot of well deserved love for Samo and Marchbank.
I'll go for Charlie Curnow's increased presence around the ground. He is a genuine chance to mark anything kicked near him and his ability to keep his feet and make good, quick decisions is becoming invaluable ... and he still has a lot of improvement ahead of him!
Nick Graham - did his role to perfection today.
I still think he will be one of our best role players in two years time.
SPS is my greenshoot this week...great game and played well when the heat was on, kicked goals and is a very complete package for a young player....you feel like things happen when he has the footy and its exciting to watch him play.
Had my doubts initially but the kid has more about him than just flair and is a genuine midfielder....well done to SOS on his selection..
The green shoot of the week is that its hard to decide whether SPS or Marchbank is the green shoot of the week!
I think SPS gets the nod but only just.
I'd also like to acknowledge Chatlue Curnow this week, still a bit behind the front runners for the coveted green shoot award but I liked the way he moved, covered the ground and hit some packs hard.
Beyond the obvious - I love the ball in Williamson's hands. What a great decision maker. Excellent disposal. Pick 61! That's SOS showing off.
Have we finally turned the corner on our recruiting?
Like most others it has to be SPS, that run along the boundary and the kick across the body to Bryce lace out was just so pure.
If I had to break it down to one SPS act on the day, that was it!! It WAS pure....PURE GOLD!
What thrills me most about this kid, is that he looks like he belongs and has been playing at this level for years.
Not phased by much, not bereft of confidence and quick hands, tackles like vice with strength beyond his size.
Genuine star power about him.
Dare I say... DELICIOUS!
Does a one legged duck swim in circles?
I want hear it again.
That was champagne football ;D
That term can't be far away by the looks of our young guns and their
development.
Haven't heard that word either in a positive way at our club for a while either ::)
Enjoy some of the "Halls Creek Cowboy's" finest moments.

Wearing that number 5 with pride. Certainly doesn't look like a first year player that played no pre-season games
Awesome pick up
(was trying to link that scene from Crackerjack where Bill Hunter takes his hat off for a good bowl.)
Hats off to SOS.
Seeing him with that No 5 reminds me of a young Syd Jackson.....
Yep, Sammo... with Charlie and Willo lurking...
Not really, I think Syd was more an outside runner but certainly had the good ball use SPS shows.
I'm not sure we've ever had a player quite like this SPS kid, his highlight reel is going to come in and around stoppages. He's like Murphy before we let Murphy's opponents smash him!
Kind of like Murphy crossed with Campo's dancing feet, maybe a bit of Whitehead on the LHS? Gees, talk about a good player wrecked by injury there.
Is SPS officially MJ,...........MiniJudd?
or
Could he be CAM,......Carlton's Andrew McLeod!
He said he'd like to be called, 'Sammo'.
Give him what he wants, I say!!
x2, Sammo or SPS is what his team mates call him.
Lots to like from this round.
Noticed Daisy's candy and running goal, and ASOS run down tackle ending in Weitering goal are in 10 best afl moments. Cool.
Green shoot for me:
Samo's hard tackle followed by his over the head handball to Levi.
= Vision and speedy decision making, strong core and arms, fast execution.
Levi has a quick snap on his left, no less, and splits the middle.
= quick reaction, confidence, goalkicking accuracy.
Bl**dy hell. It's been a while since we've been so spoilt for choice.
Go new Blues
Don't normally post, however my green shoot that I would like to mention is Charlie C. He was on Reid in the second half and ran him around ragged and nullified his output as he was marking everything that came down his way in the first half. In a post match interview on an ABC Reid acknowledged Charlie's running capacity and found it hard to keep up. So if this was by design it was a good coaching move by Bolts and his staff. Just goes to show that even with his drink driving indiscretion before he was drafted we were not put off by it at all.
That ASOS tackle was awesome, really put the knife in when we scored the goal. ;D
Sammo it is then.
I'd like all Carlton fans to keep last weekends game in memory.
Sammo like any other 1st year player is going to get 2nd year blues, it may even come earlier because after last weekend he's now officially on the radar of our opponents. In the short term it will get tough for him, and you can expect him to be inconsistent. But stick by him, back in his little moments and we'll get to see them for a whole career!
I don't want to be pedantic but it's "Samo". In fact, I do want to be pedantic >:D
x2. Rapt we got him.
Could be anything this kid.
Still keeping my powder dry with CC, he hasn't set my world on fire just yet. I thought he was pretty quite in the first half on Sat, did much better in the second. Didnt lay tackle though, should have a chat to SPS about how its done.

Not sure if this goes here or elsewhere.
Well done CFC and SPS.
Yep, well deserved. Has a good chance of taking out the award as he has both flash and grunt and was a top-10 draft pick.
Congrats on a great achievement Sammo!
Many more awesome performances to come, so glad you are loving your footy at a proud club which you will be apart of making it great once again. ;D
He actually wanted to come to Victoria to play football therefore, hopefully the 'go home' factor should be minimal.
Great for the young lad and validates the clubs faith in him when he was drafted...exciting player with maturity that you only see from the real class players...
This could be a green shoot?
the media writing nice things about us :o
I read....
"This is a well-coached, well-drilled side."
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-05-07/after-the-siren-when-will-the-magpies-learn
Ashley Browne
When was the last time a Carlton team was described as well drilled?
I like it :)
Congrats to Samo.
Lets try for 3 in a row next week, both with wins AND rising star nominations. Curnowfides??
Not a green shoot. More like a lush tropical forest ::). That's our Samo.
You're a legend son. Your mob can be so proud of you.
If this is what Samo has in his bag of tricks after 7 games, we need to strap ourselves in for his 50th.
When David parkin was coaching us would be the last time we heard such praise.
Perth would still be a looong way from Halls Creek, presuming 'home' means WA?
We could have 10 nominees and we're still not winning that award.
I had the strangest dream last night, strange because I have never had one like it. I dreamt we won the flag this year and I was crossing the road to the Hilton for drinks with my mate crying because of all the pain we have been through in the last 15-20 years. Then BB ran across the road holding the Cup up like a lunatic and the crowd picked him up and he surfed across the crowd. Here's to dreams coming true huh (whilst adhering to road safety rules of course)?
That kick inside by SPS on the members wing to Gibbs. I've watched it several times and I can't see him move his head to look to his left. How he spotted Gibbs I don't actually know. ????
There was also a kick on the wing on his wrong foot. Kicks just as well on his left
I know the one you mean. Laces out but can't remember who to, our playing did not have to break stride and was under some heat. From memory, SPS didn't have oodles of time either and was hemmed in on the wing.
That one stood out for me. Looked like he was going inboard that caressed a left foot kick parallel to the boundary to spot up Wright on the flank.
Stop it guys.... i wont be able to leave my desk...
I put that as my green shoot earlier in the thread as well, I have watched it over and over again and I still don't know how he actually kicked it! looks like he kicked it off his ankle on purpose but it went like a bullet, not many players I could name in the game who could pull off that kick, maybe none.
The big thing for me is this contrast;
Merrett over at CheatsFC basically gathers oodles of inefficient touches at the expense of some team-mate dealing with his damaging direct opponent. Mostly empty possessions.
SPS covers his opponent, wins the footy and delivers it with efficiency, even wins it back when things go wrong! Invaluable is the best description I can find!
That should have the desk rising Shadsey!
I'll take a small win even though it would have been an injustice for him not to get nominated
I've been referring to this for a the duration of Samo's career ::) He's got exceptional visuospatial skills. There's cross cultural research looking at this phenomenon. It's a skill that is well developed in Aboriginal people in comparison to white folk. My personal experience with Aboriginal people leaves me forever amazed at this highly developed skill. My guess is the more one attunes to the environment the more developed this skill.
