Title: Round 20 Green Shoot of the Week
Post by: townsendcalling on August 06, 2017, 07:39:08 pm
Choose ONE ONLY Green Shoot you observed from the game.  Can be a player, passage of play and individual effort, any ONE Shoot that put a smile ???? on your face?

He only had 9 possessions but there were one or two things that Pickett did that were classy.  His run down on TWoody was sensational and his camacarzie run off the half back line almost came off. Another couple of times he looked silky.  It put a smile on my face!

Pickett form me for all the reasons momentioned by Townsendcalling, we lack the genuine x-factor this guy could bring and I only hope he gets himself really fit over the summer and turns it on in 2018.

x 3 for Pickett

I haven't liked what I've seen in previous senior games but he showed some signs this time.
From what I've read of his 2nds form he didn't really deserve ( same as big H ) promotion but they threw him in anyway...

Just a thought - Maybe they should do it with Jaksch  ??   ( throw him in a see what he's got ? )

Or is he a lost cause ??

Agree..I'd play Jaksch at FF and see what he has got for the remaining games....

I'm perplexed as to why we haven't played him so far and could only conclude that his papers are stamped? Bit of a mystery considering we are supposed to be short on fwds.

Loved Pickett's special moments - covered by others.

For me, our little mosquitoes - Samo and ZacAttack in tandem.
Laid a double tackle near our goal square. They forced the ball out to Gibbs, who snapped a nice goal. Imagine when these youngsters are strong enough to lay those tackles on their own. It'll give us another player running free... ^-^

While I would prefer to see more consistency from Jarrod Pickett, this was the first time that I thought that he looked like he belonged out there and had the confidence and ability to take the game on.  His chase and tackle that won him a free is my green shoot.

Oh, and I loved Samo letting McDonald-Tipungwuti know that he'd been run down ????

X 2

And Samo's composure in the middle of the last to hit up the leading Silvagni was special as well. Pity SOJ couldn't nail the goal !!

Pickett and Samo for different reasons.

Samo grew some more leaves and branches.

Pickett broke soil and revealed his green tip (if you'll pardon the expression  :D).

I just watched a replay of Pickett's run down of McDonald-Tipungwuti and I can't believe how much ground he made up  :o

If Jarrod can do enough to cement a spot as a small forward, opposition defenders will be looking over their shoulders before attempting to run the ball out of defence.

Which part of the game was it in? I don't want to watch all of it

Acts like that should be enough to get him a game next week.  It needs to be highlighted and recognised, particularly in the context that Levi gave up on a chase later on.

Levi giving up the chase was terrible. It lead directly to the Essendon goal that gave them the lead. A disaster.
Pickett's chase down and tackle was inspirational.

Levi assumed the Essendon guy was giving the handball off so went to the receiving player. He's not a very committed chaser in general though.

Kreuzer's game was another ripper. AFL team of the week gave Jacobs the ruck spot though.

They had similar stats but MK had way more clearances and tackles. SJ kicked 2 goals to MK 1.

I haven't posted on this thread yet, so I'm doing more than 1 this time, just to make up for it...

Pickett needs a mandate to get fitter and get more possies and tackles.  He's coming off a pretty poor base fitness and games wise.  If he does step up, then he could be quite speeeecial...

When Lamb & Sumner came along I reckoned we'd keep the best 1 of the pair.  It looks like Lamb to me.  He got really involved there during the fight back.  Even though he only had 11 possies, most of them were very good, and hit targets in the forward line.  Another one who just needs to get a few more possies and tackles.  I think he's a fair chance of a 1 year extension.

Boekhorst gets half a green shoot.  5 tackles and 14 possies.  He also just needs to get a little more involved and he'll be an ok depth midfielder.  I think he's a fair chance of a 1 year extension.

Weiters - 20 possies and 7 marks.  Made a few little stuff ups, but fantastic to see him getting back into it.  We can blame the move to the forward line for his speed hump, but I reckon he started dropping off mid way last year when he injured his shoulder, and has been on the decline since then.  I'm happy to call it 2nd year blues.  He'll be better than ok, and I still think he could be a valuable swing man.  Some people have valid reasons why maybe he shouldn't be a swinger, but it really does improve our team if he can be.

Pickett needs to be left in the team.

Easiest thing in the world after a loss is to drop the small forward stuck in starvation corner.

He is pretty much the quickest player in the league and the game style we desperately need some attacking threats - speed is one we definitely do not have.

apart from a flash here and a flash there he was pretty ordinary earlier in the season..... maybe someone has given him a kick up the bum...... whatever it is as long as he has a crack keep him in.

x2...Happy to keep playing Pickett, he has talent and a touch of flair we lost with Betts, Garlett and Yarran leaving...

maybe he has confidence issues, partly due to the ongoing injury problems at GWS?

At his best, or close to, this guy will be a gun.
