SCG
This is it folks - last game for the year.
Clearly flag favorites along with the Crows, they will take some beating on their own ground.
On the one hand, the smaller dimensions of the SCG should suit our negating game style, but more bodies closer together will definitely help the Swans. Bigger, stronger, more experienced all over the park.
Then there's the Mills revenge factor.
Swans by six goals.
Not without a chance despite the opposition being the red hot flag favourites. Was it late last year that we got within a goal at the SCG? Never know your luck in the big smoke.
Blues by 3pts.

Blues by 3pts.
That would be a huge way to finish the year, and would provide enough "emotional nourishment" to last the whole off season.
Can't see it happening myself. But then, I couldn't see the Hawks victory either.
I'm actually looking forward to this game now! :)
Who will the Swans target on our side?? CC?
Who will the Swans target on our side?? CC?
Lamb.....reckon they will climb into him at every opportunity and defuse any effect he might have on any player he has targeted...
Ryan Crowley was the master of the heavy tag until the umpires got sick of the sideshow and allowed opposition players to beat up on him...
Zac Jones is one love tap to the guts off suspension (if he doesn't go this week). I'd be niggling the cr@p out of him and reminding him that he can't do anything about it.
The round following us beating them was the start of their run. They will want to demolish us to pay us back for that loss. Can't see us getting within 5 goals.

It will be a real test for us without doubt. I can't see us taking a backward step and I'm sure we will see some fireworks.
Smedts will probably miss so it most likely comes down to Graham or Cunningham.
Graham kicked a few goals and had 24 touches in the VFL, Cunningham had 20 so it's a toss up.
If Cunningham gets the nod it's not good news for Nick, I'd probably go with Cunningham.
Can't see us winning but confidence is a wonderful thing, I don't think it will be a blow out, looking forward to Liam V Buddy.

Small ground, pace not as big an issue. I'd go with Graham.

Cunningham has more upside in my opinion but it's a toss up.
I'd go with Graham...bit of rumour talk that Cuningham might have got ahead of himself a bit and thought he was an automatic selection each week and the coaches want
to see a bit of improvement in a few areas.
Was a very wild rumour I heard via BigFooty that he might even be up for trade if GWS want something extra for the Kelly/Hopper deal...being Bigfooty I wouldnt put much credence to that rumour and I wouldnt see SOS wanting to trade one of his young picks out...
I'd be going with Graham. He is tougher and has far more kent than Cunners IMO. He would relish the prospect of this game and I think we'll need all the kent we can get.

The Hawks were a real test and far more of a bogey side than the Swans.
i think we can match it very well with them.....

In one respect it's a nightmare for the Fluffy Ducks coming up against a side with nothing to lose. Has the makings of a very close, dour encounter. Our BEST matches it with them.

Do it right and we can beat them. I saw the Hawks do it a couple of weeks ago. We need to strangle them out of the stoppages and limit mistakes that they will quickly and ruthlessly capitalise on, as is their style. All out tackling/harassment pressure on them is also key.
Does SOJ have a hairline jaw fracture?? Had scans. If he has, leave him out.
Does it help that we were the 2nd last side to beat them?..lol.
Swans don't like our (and the Hawks) keepings off style. Harder to do at the SCG though.

Didnt play that well vs the Hawks and Luke Hodge actually ran away from him so I figured he must have some problem..

No doubt. Hmmm probably gives us a sizeable 0.00008% advantage ;)

In sympathy??
I'm heading out for the game.
I am worried it could possibly be the first million point defeat in AFL/VFL history.
Every chance it may turn that ugly for us.
However, I literally had a tear in my eye after last Saturday's game, so I couldn't resist the opportunity to be there when I am wrong.
I heard roos on a press conference.
I am extremely worried that they will touch us up.
Roos was asked if they would see this match as a chance to boost percentage and he responded that they're just focused on winning the game.
Sounded like he was very aware of what they are up against and what needs to be done to win.
The last 7 times we have played in Sydney [Swans & GWS] we have been beaten - have to go back 6 years ago in the wet on a Friday night when Judd starred for me to sing the song. I've sat through all of them.
This should be a good game as we have played pretty well the last 2 times we played them, and hopefully the boys are confident after last week. Reckon there will be 40k in attendance.
I am taking my 7 yo son [who is still to see them win live] and we have managed to score tickets into the rooms from a family friend who is a dual Blues premiership player who we will be attending with. Can't wait for Saturday and posting about the experience.
Buddy on Jones will be intriguing. The Reid and Rohan match ups for us are the worry, as is our depth in the midfield. Going to need huge games from Gibbs, Murphy and Kerridge to be any chance. Reckon Cunningham may get a run for Smedts or SOJ to add some more midfield run.
I remember that night well.
I scored a high five from Juddy after the game, and Eddie Betts handed me a towel that the guys gave to supporters post match.

The Hawks beat them a few weeks back....
blues by 20.

Thanks. Me too, I f'ing hate the Swans!
As long as we on for 4 qtrs and make it difficult for them, we are in with a chance. Games like this agains teams like Syd at this time of the year are invaluable. Have faith, one more round fellas.
Smedts out and Cuningham in for mine.
Smedts out and Cuningham in for mine.
Smedts would be stiff to miss out if he's fit. Eight tackles was a fair effort and we'll need to apply the same sort of tackle pressure as we did against the Hawks.
Fraser gave Cuningham a decent review and his 'bigger body' comment is interesting. Cuningham would seem to be the logical replacement if Smedts doesn't come up.
Smedts has had enough chances.

No ACoS this time around, no Rowe, ACoS played a super game of Franklin last time.
I think the Swans will be set for revenge, but you never know what a little confidence against an opponent will bring.
Hopefully we can stay in the match early, grind away and annoy the crape out of them.

Yes. Whilst a win against a team like the Swans on their own dung heap would be huge, and an awesome way to finish, my realistic best hope is that we do our usual sneak ahead in the last and lose by a narrow margin.

Den Den replacing SOJ, I like it. Gives us two good defensive forwards who can also impact the scoreboard.
No swansong for KJ.
Bye.
2 good sized outs for the swans. Papley is a difficult match up for us and Hannebery is a very consistent ball winner.
SOJ has looked to be playing under duress with that shoulder for weeks so I don't see him as a massive loss for this game.
Den Den will leave nothing behind. Play him on Rampe and Lamb on Mills to try and make them accountable and slow them down out defence.
I have a sneaking good feeling about this one, but I think that is blind hope that we finally get to see a win in Sydney after 6 long years more than anything. Just reckon the boys might be up for this after such a great win last week and wanting to put an exclamation mark on the season.

Yes, sure seems like it.
I wonder if he's interested in an AFL career, and if another club will pick him up ?

If he can't get a game in a side that has struggled for key forwards for 2 years now, he's done at AFL level.

Both their ins are ok, Cunningham plays well against us and Newman is a player I wanted from Frankston a couple of years back and he is a great kick of the footy, saying all that we are a chance IMO and if it was in Melbourne a real good chance but I guess the Swans have plenty to play for and are the form team and will start warm favourites.
Interesting point. Both Chris Judd and Dennis Armfield will finish with 145 games at Carlton, fitting given Armfield was the sneak knives in the Judd trade.
If he can't get a game in a side that has struggled for key forwards for 2 years now, he's done at AFL level.
His own fault. He's been good in the VFL but if your attitude is bad you get what you deserve. He'll learn the hard way that you get one career if you don't make the most of it then it's gone.

Over 3 completed seasons, he's played 7 games for us. His attitude must be beyond appalling. No games this season, and 1 in 2016. I mean, not even getting a gig on the interchange, not even getting a half of senior footy, not even a quarter ?
Is there more to it than just bad attitude ?
I'm surprised that Armfield got a game because his last was nothing to write home about, maybe sentiment played a part.
If I was Rhys Palmer I'd just go through the motions next season, pick up the year's wages and retire.
Hannebery and Papley are handy outs for us but we'll still struggle I reckon, Sydney by 4 or 5 goals.

Whats worse is that he has failed to impress 2 coaches, 2 MCs. There is something seriously wrong here.

Not on VFL form as it actually very good. Anyone else would've been in the side long ago on that form so it has to be attitude, which i've heard is pretty bad

I guess if you count MM, Barker and Bolts, that's 3 coaches, which unfortunately, makes it look worse.
At a stretch, you could probably forgive 2015 - the club was in a bad place, and apart from that, maybe they wanted KJ in the 2's as a KPP for his own development.
But after that..........

With MM he played 7 games then got injured for most of the year so never had a chance with Barker. He was young and there for development at that point. After that it was Bolton. Remember going to a VFL game here in Geelong in 2016 and he was simply outstanding with his leading, contested marking and goal kicking. Some players though simply don't want to help themselves and then work it out when it's too late. Apparently his attitude outside was poor as was his attitude at team meetings, which was very bad, at least from what i've heard.
On another note Carlton is going live tomorrow with a major announcement at 9.30am.

It's on their Facebook page as well, but there's another post saying that the club will be making a major announcement tomorrow at 9:30AM so I don't think it's got anything to do with Uber.

I always have a few questions about our selection. This week is no exception. I am a bit surprised to see Smedts named, but there are already rumours he may miss. Fair enough.
I think Graham is a bit stiff not to get a game, as he was very good last week.
I was hoping that Caleb Marchbank would get up, but I guess we've seen fit to allow him to properly recover.

3 key forwards look interesting. Next year, when our list is fit. They may not try that trick. Not even sure it will work this time. But it is something we will have to be aware of. We do have only 3 tall defenders named, which means that Plowman may have to play tall this week.
I suspect Bolton is getting his long term deal.
That would suit me, he knows what he's doing and Collingwood might be in the market.

I guess we could quibble about a couple of players, but that's close to our best 22 at the moment, allowing for injuries, club policy of playing youth etc.
Bloody hell, that Swans team looks good on paper.

You could be forgiven for thinking Roos was still coaching Sydney, he certainly seems to get credit for all their success long after he left.

Could be a big out for Carlton. We didn't see Levi Casboult at airport this morning, and now hearing he wasn't spotted at SCG this arvo.
Just got back from the open training.
Can confirm their was No Levi, and KJ and Graham were both in attendance and trained with the group.

Thanks sbf. If he doesn't play, it will be interesting to watch the game and then check a few stats, just to see how the anti v pro Levi debate shapes up, with even a small sample space.
Wonder if he has informed that club of his decision hence we left him out.

A very small sub plot, but a nice read IMO.
Probably plenty of stories like this throughout the AFL.
Apparently a couple have said Levi took a later flight. Apparently his Mrs is 39 weeks pregnant.

Good. Hope all goes well for them! :)
That's good, he been a good servant and if he's already told them he's going they should give him a chair off.
Mrs Casboult is 39 weeks and 4 days pregnant.
Given where we are at it says a bit about his importance to us and him to play.
Otherwise we could easily have stated give it a miss and we'll play someone else.

He has been following Lods' "Goaltracker" and wants a chance to double last year's goal tally ;)
One reason why I'd like to see him in navy blue next season is that after 6 more games the father/son rule will kick in :)

Graham, could be playing for his career today.
If true, he could not have asked for a better game to do so. Against sydney @ SCG means there will be a lot of stoppages in a smaller field, which is perfect for him.
He should end up with 30 today.
Graham goes missing against physical opponents, would love to see him get 30 decent possies, but I ain't holding my breath.....
