So far nothing with Carlton as yet.
Still no news on Bri Davey.
Melbourne have already lost 4 players to new startup team Geelong. Including big names Mel Hickey (former marquee player) and 'Rocky' Cranston (dreadlocked forward).
North Melbourne have only made 1 signing to this point, 2018 Premiership B+F winner of the dogs, Emma Kearney has jumped ship.
Given the state of our club, i'd be VERY happy if we managed to keep our players. It would be easy for them to walk. On the flip side, perhaps our players are not wanted for the same reason.

Vescio has snubbed an offer from North Melbourne and re-signed with the Blues.

Good as long as she starts kicking goals again.
Gotta do more than wait out the back for the easy goal, especially with our midfield.
Heck, sounds like I'm talking about the men! ;)

Yep, so I can't find an article about it (not unusual given AFL mens is the main event at the moment), but an admin on one of the facebook groups I am on shared an update with the following text:
Darcy Vescio has agreed to stay at Carlton despite a juicy offer from the Kangaroos. - Fox Footy

Agree. She didn't have a great season (who did ?) but still a big DV fan.

If Darcy has renewed with Carlton I am a bit surprised we haven't already announced it, it's the sort of info you want out in the market place to help potential recruits decide which club they want to join.
However, it may pay to keep this area a little grey if you are trying to defend against poachers. Some ambiguity might help expose the enemy!
If I was a young AFLW player, I'd want to join a team that has the likes of Vescio, Davey and Harris.
I hope Bri renews her deal as well, but we have to expect a move from a few players given the current state of the competition rules. In some ways, we may be lucky Bri got her injury, it's probably caused a few potential suitors to cool off a little.

Given that Davey is still plastered all over the carlton website and everything else, i always thought that we had to have been a chance to keep her.......or our IT department is incredibly inept...which was a possibility.
So i do hope that she decides to stick around....and i'd let her keep the captaincy because as good as Sarah was, she isn't a Bri Davey.
As for the mids....well, i think we've built a side the same way i'd hoped we rebuilt the mens side. That is, get the hard to find book end type players sorted, and flesh out the middle with your easier to find midfielders later. If a player is contemplating coming to the club and they can see that we have the KPPs already in place, then it makes the club more attractive.
As for those bagging out Vescio, she was coming back from a knee injury and was still finding her feet. She will be a different player next year.

It seems we've lost our first player(s) to the poaching expansion clubs.
Both Kate Gillespie-Jones and Danielle Hardiman
are now North Melbourne players.
Full list of current swaps... GEELONG CONFIRMED SIGNINGS Richelle Cranston (Melbourne), forward/midfielder Melissa Hickey (Melbourne), defender Erin Hoare (Melbourne), ruck Anna Teague (Melbourne), defender

Damn! I rally rate Hardiman. She may not be that quick, but she is a great competitor and was an excellent defender for us in the last 2 years. Gillespie-Jones was also a very solid defender for us. Nor will they be easy for us to replace.

You can sort of see what is happening, the whole competition is being taken to a new lower less professional level, to make the games more open and scoring higher.
There is some irony that the new teams are focused mostly of defenders, especially given the AFLs criticism of Carlton.

Yep.
KGJ was one of the targetted KPF on the infamous whiteboard that got leaked. Turned into a defender. While good size, nothing to really write home about with footy smarts. Hardiman on the other hand is probably not quite the size of KGJ, but has a better footy brain. Managed to get in the votes a few times last year.
Still, with Davey (hopefully) coming back, we will require one less of them in the team every week.
Better losing from an area we are abundant in rather than say, mids.

Injuries aside, we won't be wooden spooners next season.
We need to get some elite talent in the middle of the ground to avoid that. But I dare say we’d at least be better than Geelong. They’re list thus far is underwhelming at best.

Don't worry about them, they get some of those Western District farm girls on-board and end up tougher than our men, and bigger drinkers! :o

Does anyone know WHY Geelong are getting those compensation picks?
New team and all, sure, but why don't North get the same?
I do like how they offered us pick 48 as compensation for losing Hardiman and KGJ...hardly going to replace them with one pick. :-\
According to Daniel Cherny in the Age, North missed out on compensation picks because they have already recruited 17 players including Emma Kearney and Moana Hope. It seems that North have gone for established players while Geelong will rely on the draft to build their list.

I more day to go in the sign/trade period which is the same day FA opens.
Currently we've done OK i think, although we might be losing yet another defender with Maddie Gay wanting out to the Dees. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-05-31/aflw-threeway-trade-stalemate-looms
Quote
A THREE-WAY stalemate is looming between Melbourne, Carlton and Collingwood as the NAB AFL Women’s trade deadline approaches.
Former netballer Maddison Gay has informed Carlton that she wishes to join Melbourne for the third season of the competition.
It comes as Collingwood's Amelia Barden intends to depart the Holden Centre to follow former Pies assistant Daniel Harford, who was recently appointed Blues coach.
A three-way trade between the clubs – Collingwood would receive draft picks – has been one suggestion to break the deadlock, with the AFL now believed to be involved in the process.
Losing Hardiman and Gillespie-Jones already leaves a hole, but Bri Davey back basically fills it back up. Losing Maddie Gay on top of that could be 1 player too many to cover the loss of.
Although this is encouraging somewhat if it happens....
Quote
Barden played every match for Collingwood in the first two seasons of the competition and was described as a "wrecking ball" by the club in her debut season.

Sounds like at the close there was no deal done between Carlton, Collingwood and Melbourne on Maddison Gay and Amelia Barden.

No actual mention of how the deal got done though.
Weird the AFL/AFLW website said no further trades were completed at 5pm today and listed all the signings, yet that article you list came out at midday!
The club has issued this at 5pm, http://www.carltonfc.com.au/news/2018-06-04/blues-sign-barden-lose-gay

I actually went searching for info over the past hour.
There is a headline on the AFLW section with talk of a mega 5-way trade to end the trade period. Clicking on the link takes you to a different story though.
So i searched google and found melbourne tweet, so went to their homepage and thats the link you see. Nothing on AFL website (apart from dead link) Nothing on our website.
Very hard to find info.

From that link, that wasn't there 10 minutes ago, despite the timestamp on it saying 5:04pm...

The Club also wishes to thank Madeline Keryk, Laura Attard, Kate Shierlaw and Sarah Last for their contributions to the AFLW program, having been delisted from the primary list today.
Carlton now currently holds picks Nos. 3, 16, 21, 27, 38, 40, 48 and 49 in this year’s NAB AFL Women’s National Draft, the equivalent of Victorian picks Nos. 3, 12, 14, 19, 26, 27, 32, 33.
Don't think we've lost anything there. Keryk was brilliant in her first season. Pathetic last year. Ditto Attard. Shierlaw showed promise, but lacked improvement Last was just making up the numbers.

Yes, Shierlaw was a little disappointing, showed a lot of promise with plenty of athleticism but turned out to be a tap ruck and not much else. I had expected her to have far more influence around the ground than she showed!
In the women's game winning the tap is even less valuable than the men's, primarily because the girls hardly ever find truly clean possessions. You just don't find the girl's doing a Judd style breakaway, there isn't that differential in strength and speed in the midfield that you find as a differential in the men's competition. To me it's a big reason why the girls should not be coached in men's style game plans and tactics, and that AFL fans should not expect to go to AFLW and see the female equivalent!

Disappointing, but we had to make changes after last season. That was a disaster. I'm really disappointed to lose Maddie Gay. She looked good. Not sure about Barden: I have seen her in action, but I don't remember her as an opponent.

Either do I, but i searched google images to remind me who she was and a lot of photos had 2 players attempting to take her down, so the 'wrecking ball' description seems apt.
I think we needed a bigger bodied, more aggressive mid in the lineup, so its a good get in that regard.

Many were calling for it last season, but an injury interrupted pre-season will do that to you.
Wonder what kind of free agency types we will target.

Very disappointed to see Maddie Gay go to the Dees. She looked impressive this year in an unimpressive season. She seemed to read the play exceptionally well. Lucky Dees.

Apt description. She'll give you guys good service as a hard at it mid, just don't expect brilliant skills.
Very much in the Loynes mould, maybe a little quicker.
Sad to see her go from the Pies.

OK, so we finally got an updated list of Carlton players who have resigned, albeit a day after everyone else.
CARLTON Players: Shae Audley, Amelia Barden, Lauren Brazzale, Brianna Davey, Alison Downie, Georgia Gee, Kerryn Harrington, Tayla Harris, Reni Hicks, Jess Hosking, Sarah Hosking, Bridie Kennedy, Sophie Li, Katie Loynes, Tilly Lucas-Rodd, Breann Moody, Natalie Plane, Gabriella Pound, Nicola Stevens, Darcy Vescio, Courtney Webb. Delisted: Laura Attard, Madeline Keryk, Sarah Last, Kate Shierlaw, Tiahna Cochrane (rookie), Katie-Jayne Grieve (rookie). Coach: Daniel Harford
Players we've lost to other clubs.... Maddie Gay (Melbourne) Lauren Arnell (Brisbane) Kate Gillespie-Jones (North Melbourne) Danielle Hardiman (North Melbourne)
Disappointed we delisted KJG, thought she showed much needed hardness (perhaps too much with an elbow once) but its a good list we've got left. Only question marks i have would be over Kennedy, Plane and Webb as i'd like to see some more improvement in them.

Players from other clubs who have been delisted who we can pick up via free agency (i believe) in the next 2 days....
Abbey Holmes the former Legends match 'star' and has done some commentating got the flick. Also former Carlton girl Rebecca Privitelli got the flick from GWS, 2nd club in 2 years.
