Our girls getting outclassed at present. F50 entries coming out quickly, North making us pay. Structure seems to disappear for periods with the obvious cost.

Half Time:
Carlton: 1 - 2 - 8
North: 4 - 8 - 32
We're being flogged. Not a lot working for us at the moment. North has done well with their money. :(
15 tackles to 37. >:(
Emma Kearney got into in the 2nd quarter and even Mo Hope got her first goal ever against us. Not good.
Sort of get the feeling as Blues supporter...same crap, different year. ::)
We seem to be being led to the ball most of the time. Our ball movement is good, but we’re not getting it enough.
Emma King was beaten badly by our rucks in the first 2 seasons, but she has 2 goals against us today. Our rucks are not making an impact.
Big mark by Vescio and goal to Davey.
Not reading the wind at all either.
31 points down and being well beaten.
6. 9 v 2. 2
Says it all I'm sad to say.
Not what I was hoping for to kick off 2019 Carlton campaign.
Dress it up however you want. We're a cellar dweller club :'(
Maybe they need to look into the water supply at Ikon Park. Buggered if I can think why else we're so far behind even the newest competitors ????
Our centre work and such is not that good because King and Gillespie-Jones are winning in the ruck. Downie came back at bit that quarter, but is still being beaten. Good tackle, but couldn't convert. North moving the ball better and hitting more targets. Until we start hitting targets more often, our forwards are going to lack opportunity. Taylor looks dangerous, but hasn't got the opportunities. Vescio getting cold.
Fitness doesn't look as good as North either.
Dennis Armfield is North's forward coach!
Sounds oh so familiar
Indeed it does. Our midfield is still very much a work in progress. Maddy Prespakis was good for her first game and Katie Loynes gave her, as usual, but the other mids were well beaten and our small forwards were ineffective.
We lost every quarter and almost all of the stats. Moody and Downie won the taps, but were flogged around the ground. Emma King and Gillespie-Jones set up the win.
Geez, we can't take a trick. Not with performance, people, fitness, or finesse. I hope and pray to every god-like entity this is not another blue year for our loyal fans...
Hoping Harf knows what to do, has the resources, does it quickly, and gets the girls to AFLW standards pronto. Otherwise we'll be following our boys last campaign, setting new records for worst performances.
Sack the coach.
I started to get bored, so I was rolling through the vision in fast forward.
It was a blessing not to have the commentary and "special" comments...
The thing that struck me was the rebounding out of our forward 50 - did we win one contest going forward? (or did it just look that way in fast forward...!!)
WW
My view was the ball went in enough, albeit not the best entries. Then North either marked (?Duffin good here), or worked together, spread, and got it down their end. They worked harder and were accurate. We on the other hand, looked slower, clumsy at times, and lacked system.
North mids then outclassed our mids. They didn't look to be in the same league.
Edwards and Prespakis were impressive on debut.
Loynes busted a gut but we didn't have enough contributors across the board.
I’m not sure that we can continue to play Vescio, Harris and Davey as forwards, particularly as we don’t seem to get the ball inside 50 enough and, when we do, it’s a bit like Mitchell Starc’s “mystery ball”.
I’d like to see Vescio and Davey rotating through the midfield to give us more grunt. Apart from that, we’ve got to get more leg speed and sharpen our ball movement.
Prespakis was good and she will be invaluable when she gets a few games under her belt.
Well that was just sad. Sheesh, the Wallaroos looked bigger and stronger around the ball and our forward defensive pressure was woeful... got it in there enough, in fact, more often than the Kangabies but couldn't keep it there. And such was the lack of pressure that opponents waltzed it out of their defense with ease to set up another attack.
Isn't that the men's game plan?
Typical norf, using AFL mandate to buy a flag.
I don't get the willingness to accept mediocrity as a price for being a good citizen.
I realise things like mental health are now a big issue with players, but if you want to be a good citizen forget chasing success, it's the Kents who will dominate the top of the ladder in both AFL and AFLW.
Anyway, no matter how well we behave the Kents and the AFL media still point the finger at us and laugh doing so, so why bother? We might as well get in, get dirty, feck up their day and get back to winning ugly!
I reckon that if there is a semblance of that in our AFL playing group that The Terrier will tear it to pieces. Good.
I'd trust Harf to know what to do with our AFLW group to get them back on track.
I don't think there is any correlation between mental health issues and being a 'good citizen'. Plenty of folks dealing with anxiety disorders, depression and so on who are ruthless in their craft. I get your point but let's no confuse good management of a mental illness with mollycoddling.
Are we having B&F voting this season ... Lods? :)
Good question.
I actually did the voting system last season and forgot about it until reading this post.
Will start it again...
Thanks Kruddler.
I only caught the last ten minutes of the game so I won't be voting this week.
We actually weren't that bad in the bit I seen..and had quite a bit of time in our forward line....but it was all over by then.
I had my littles ones 3rd birthday party and didn't see a second. Had the result ruined for me by a friend who should know better. Today was superbowl day, and haven't got around to watching the game yet. I will....soon.
Great! Much appreciated :)
Such a disappointing game, but I'll be interested to see how other teams fare against North before determining how we actually performed. I always thought the AFL were far too generous in their recruiting allowances for the new teams. North in particular have cherry picked some very talented players, and they've had the benefit of seeing these women play for a couple of seasons first.
Our midfield is certainly still a weakness, and what disappoints me the most is that we got rid of Maddie Kerryk who got 16 disposals and 6 tackles for Geelong on Saturday...tell me we couldn't have used her in the middle on Sunday?? And even though it wasn't through choice, letting Kate Gillespie-Jones faff off to North Melbourne has already hurt us and we're one game in. Worst part of it is that we're going to have to survive another recruiting raid this year, this time with two Melbourne metro teams, and even if we finish last, again we won't get the top draft pick. I don't see how we're going to be able to lure midfield talent in.
I think that one of the big problems at the moment in getting folks to engage with the Women's team is player movement.
Lists are very unsettled with players changing clubs.
The new teams just adds to that problem.
Until that settles down and there is stability in the lists it's hard to get the 'attachment' to the players that you get in the men's competition.
For the most part, with a few exceptions, we're engaged with the jumper but not individuals.
Just got through watching the game and i'm torn.
On one hand i think North got a few cheapies early which helped them gain, essentially, an unassailable lead. However, i think we were also pretty poor and they deserved that lead.
On the other hand, i think North have an all-star team. I reckon i knew just as many players for them, as i knew for us.
Some of their hand-picked stars was just ridiculous. Even there b-graders (ie KGJ) were ready-made footballers who performed.
One of our best was the youngest kid on our list...and if i'm honest, wasn't THAT impressive. Just goes to show how poorly the rest of the list played.
Loynes only knows one way, and that won't change.
Brazzale is always very solid, without being spectacular.
Hoskings are solid b-graders that are asked to do a-grade work.
Davey, Vescio and Harris are a-graders who are starved of opportunity due to the rest of the list not knowing how to kick a ball to advantage of a teammate.
Stevens i thought was one of our best, but was under immense pressure and turned it over far too much. She needs people presented better, and coming towards the football.
Prespakis was handy, and i know its just a 1st game, but the wraps on her are not justified at this early stage. Solid, but far from elite at this stage.
One thing i did like from the team was obviously a directive from the coaching staff.
Everytime one of our players was on the ground, at least one more came over to pick her up. Either offering a hand up, or simply pulling them up by their jumper. A good initiative that should bring the group together.
Anybody wanting to give your votes...

I'd love to but haven't watched it, I find the whole competition has become a shadow of what it could have been. AFLW is to AFL what the Myer windows are to Christmas, just a cheap exploitation of something that could mean so much more!
