The Gold Coast appear to have lost the mojo they had at the start of the season. We, on the other hand, appear to be heading in a better direction. They beat us earlier: can we return the favour?
Windy!
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
SummaryMax 15Windy.Chance of any rain: 5%
Sydney area
Mostly sunny. Winds westerly 35 to 50 km/h decreasing to 25 to 35 km/h in the late evening.
The weather in Melbourne this week sounds is going to be wet and windy: perfect time for a game at Marvel! Now we have to be able to beat their rucks!
In my view, this is definitely one of those cliched "danger games." Suns have been embarrassed twice in as many weeks, Dew reckons (rightly or wrongly) the Crows' coaches were laughing at them, and I think they will steel themselves to show real effort and attitude. We have been up for a few weeks, and next week is a perfect time for a young team to lose a little focus.
Tend to agree with Paul.
This is actually a different kind of test for the coaching group.
It will be a different experience.
We will go in favourites.
We will expect to win and should win comfortably...that's when things can go a bit pear shaped.
The effort and attitude can be no less than what it has been in the previous few weeks.
Get that right and it should be a good afternoon
Definite danger game, but if Teague and co are serious, with our respective recent form, we should flog them....and i expect too.
In reality, i'd just be happy with the 'W'.
Out: Goddard
In: Weitering
Cunners too if fit.
Give Gov another week off.
Big battle in the ruck this week with Kreuzer vs Witts.
Witts is the closest thing to Sandilands going around at the moment and not the type that Kreuzer plays well against. I'd like to see Kreuzer push forward and run him around.
I think it would upset team balance, but i'd like to see TDK get a gig soon. Maybe if Weitering doesn't come up?
Suns will be without Anthony Myles following 1 week suspension.
I agree with all the above.
This game is very important for us and for Teague.
If we drop this one DT's chances to be our next senior coach will take a slide.
Suns aren't going to want to beat us - it'll destroy their pitch for a priority pick...

Early prognosis
No confirmation on Powell's injury yet, but following Saturday's loss to Richmond, coach Stuart Dew conceded the young wingman would likely miss the rest of the season. Martin could be in a similar boat after finger surgery, but the club will know more on both after consulting specialists later in the week. Ainsworth and Bowes are now only a fortnight away from returning. - Michael Whiting
Big percentage booster this one, can't see them getting within 10 goals.
Curnow the junior might be close to a return?
ps I'd be having a chat to Fiorini after the game too if I was SOS.
He's a gem.
Agree on above comments....danger game simply because we'll start raging favourites and not often that's happened to the young team in recent years. Terrible luck for Goddard but hopefully Weitering is right to go. They could even consider Casboult playing permanent forward without Charlie/McGovern and give TDK a run to help Kruezer when Witts rests?
Updated injury list - no wonder they're getting belted.

Early prognosis
Murdoch was a late withdrawal from the NEAFL last weekend and will now miss another match with a quad problem. Rankine's hip must be a concern. Originally the Suns said it was "minor" after niggling it in his only NEAFL match three weeks ago and now he's listed as a TBC. - Michael Whiting
x2...Playing with a poor team we havent seen the best of him this season but that left boot he has is a good one and with a good Italian surname like Fiorini
there is only one logical place for him to be and thats at Carlton.
Ainsworth would be very highly rated if he was at a better club.
I honestly think GC need to go hard at a full on rebuild right now. Forget the past and the dire position they're already in - offer all their good players longish deals - whoever doesn't want to sign trade them out for as many first round draft picks as they can get. They already hit last year's draft hard. Do it again now and build a culture around a group of kids like GWS has done.
Sunny on saturday but VERY windy.
Isn't the roof closed irrespective of weather conditions?
No.
We had to suffer through a glary day against Brisbane because the sun was out.
It makes awful viewing for TV too.
https://www.afl.com.au/news/2019-06-27/case-closed-afl-to-keep-marvel-roof-shut-for-remaining-2019-games
My answer is still correct as of 5 weeks ago.
Kayo to the rescue for me this time - can't get along. Must say, I prefer the roof shut.
it means that as recently as the Brisbane game, we played with the roof open.
You asked a question, I answered it.
I was looking forward not backwards!
Yes, I was aware of the sun during the Brisvegas game ::) ::)
would be nice to see a (key) cfc forward kick a swag - 6 or 7.
Big H - reckon this lad (at this stage of his development) is a huge confidence player....
Maybe, but a lot of his recent success was due to McGovern doing the unrewarded sacrificial stuff, something I'd posted on here about long before he was dropped.
I liked Teague telling Casboult to be the person pushing forward to get out the back of contests. That's A-Grade coaching, not just because it gets Casboult in the right place, but because it's easy to understand and Meat can execute that dragging an opponent away from the contest!
he hasn't had much real success since the start of the season though last Saturday he presented well.
If you only measure success by goal scoring, but his influence over the outcome of the game has risen dramatically.
It too easy to associate kicking goals with personal efforts, when in reality scoring a goal is usually down to things team-mates do! For example SoJ finding himself as the tall in some recent F50 contests, only comes about because McGovern and Casboult are dragging KPD opponents away from the fall of the ball! Remember, Charlie and McKay were not playing!
Apart from the obvious wish of having a good win this week, I would also like to see us kick a big score - 20 goals - no wind, no wet, so no reason why not.
rubbish.
Now you're comparing the Guv's efforts to SoJs?
ROFL.
He was sorely missed last weekend. Not.
Not really, you lack comprehension of what is written.
Current odds show CFC $1.23, GC $4.20. Can't remember the last time that happened.
The odds are insane considering we lost to them last time.
One change, Weiters in for Goddard (inj).

Lukosius in a BP?
Josh Deluca to debut.
Dow out with illness.
Good luck to young Josh.
Hope Josh goes well. This is his big chance .
We need him to become a permanent player.
He'll give us a lot more than Dow has all year, easily.
And he's got some mongrel in him.
Hopefully, Dow can play 2s for the rest of the year and get his skilled up to scratch.
Taking my 4 and 6 yo for their first AFL (senior) game ever tomorrow!
Blues had better turn up.
Good chance for Deluca to impress and be an insider midfielder who can go forward and kick goals and apply a bit of pressure. I think Dow needs a spell.....IMHO O'Brien has gone past him in the last 4 or 5 weeks.
That's not saying much! ;)
Deluca started in WA as a small forward. I can recall seeing him play in the WAFL (Back in the days of the ABC having access to the State Leagues). He isn't slow, but he isn't express. His kicking was very good (hopefully Freo didn't wreck that) and he could make a goal out of not much. Then again, that was some years ago now. :)
Crash...he had a very good year in the WAFL here last year. He might play a similar role to Gibbons....part time in the midfield rotations and then small forward option as well. He's tough and goes hard at it too....looking forward to seeing him play.
I have no doubt he can play, but in fairness to him the first game with a new bunch of blokes, we probably should not expect too much!
Bit concerned about the highlights package for Josh Deluca, he seems to be hitting his targets. I am sure that is against our team rules.
I heard a few stats the other day.
Last time we were favourites was something like 18 months ago.
Last time we won as favourites was 1141+ days ago.
Not only are we favourites for this game, we have the shortest odds of any game this week! :o
Gotta get used to it sometime.
Does anyone know what number Josh Deluca has been given?
Showing as 47 on the CFC website.
Agree Surfie.. think he will play forward more with the odd run on the ball to start with....good player IMO and I expect him to do ok and hold his place, can hit a target and play the outside role too.
If we win today we go ahead in the Stocker deal.
In terms of points maybe.
In reality, Stocker is not a collection of points, and far outweighs whatever points he was attached to.
Thus, we are already ahead in the Stocker deal. ;)
This game makea me nervous. One of the rare ones we should win easily but we know how that can play out at Carlton.
Just saw how short we are to win this game :o
I will be disappointed to not win comfortably but this is only based on the current form of both teams which is always concerning. We better have prepared for the team that beat us early in the year and not the current one.
They are not as bad as their current form suggests so unless we are prepared for tough match, today has all the hallmarks of an upset.
Jim I don't think there are any easy wins for us yet.
If Teague can get the boys focused and firing for 4q, we're bound to win. It's the 4q bit that's work in progress for us at present.
Older boys sustain their leadership in both words and actions. We might just experience the rare back to back glory. Albeit from the bottom of the ladder :))
Go Blues
