This is probably our 2nd last game for the year. Such is life.

Apart from McKay, I am only giving votes to the few players who performed up to scratch in the first half

I couldn't give McKay votes for that very reason, by the time a few of them pulled their finger out it was all over!

I actually found it very difficult to rate this game. In many ways, it was the most disappointing game of the year. The first half was deplorable. There is no other way of describing it. But the second half was much better. Given Jack Martin and 4 good quarters from Doc, we might have even won it.
In the end I tried to be objective, instead of letting my expectations and irritations hold sway.
Votes:
We had so few 4-quarter players, it was very disappointing. But, in a way, it encapsulated our year. A lot of our players stood up in patches, but few could keep it up for 4 quarters. Particularly our mids, who were obliterated early, but who finished quite strongly.
[3] Jacob Weitering
[2] Liam Jones
[2] Sam Walsh
[2] Michael Gibbons
[2] Harry McKay
[1] Kade Simpson
[1] Will Setterfield
[0.5] Lachie Plowman
[0.5] Ed Curnow
[0.5] Levi Casboult
[0.5] Tom de Koning
Explanations:
[3] Jacob Weitering: Totally dominated his man and his position. Really played well.
[2] Liam Jones: Not quite as dominant as Weitering, but still a very good effort and clearly won his position.
[2] Sam Walsh: Not a dominant game, but was probably our best 4 quarter mid.
[2] Michael Gibbons: Excellent after half time.
[2] Harry McKay: Easily won is position. Had we been competent enough to get the ball to him earlier, the result would have been different. Actually held some good marks.
[1] Kade Simpson: Very much a Simmo game. Held sway and provided run and carry. Pity his kicking was not as good as his play.
[1] Will Setterfield: Patchy. Very good in the 3rd quarter.
[0.5] Lachie Plowman: Solid and reliable in defence, but for one very poor last quarter error which donated Adelaide a goal.
[0.5] Ed Curnow: Worked hard, but not the sort of game he has produced for much of the season.
[0.5] Levi Casboult: Nowhere near his best but competed better than in recent games.
[0.5] Tom de Koning: Tom was probably the wrong match-up for O’Brien, but he demonstrated, in the 3rd quarter especially, just what potential he has.
Honourable Mentions:
Jack Newnes: His kicking was better today.
Marc Murphy: Solid.
Sam Petrevsko-Seton: Good in the second half.
Patrick Cripps: Crippa didn’t have a big day, but he kicked goal of the year and had more clearances than any other Blue. Pity he can’t goal from a set shot.
