The VFLW is starting up very soon.
Interesting indeed is starting the VFLW season while the AFLW is still going. It does suggest that the ladies who miss out will get game time, although that is hard to confirm. Maybe someone with a better internet connection can confirm that.
I must admit that I have been quite irritated that the girls who miss out each week had no opportunity to impress in the past.
In the past there has been no opportunity to groom girls, as anyone can draft them from the VFLW. I wonder if that is still the case. There are a LOT of girls playing AFLW who started with Carlton in the VFLW!
The VFLW season started, from the sounds of things, last weekend. We lost by 6 goals to Casey.
It has been very difficult to get any information about this group of girls, but ...
There are a few 'highlight' on the Carlton website. However, be warned, not many of them appear to be much of highlights. That suggests the standard can't be all that high.
I still can't find out anything about the VFLW list.
Girls lost to Port Melbourne by a fair bit. It looks like the VFL girls are not strong this year.
Brooke Walker picked to play VFLW this week. Hopefully she smashed it because we need her next week.
That would be nice.
Actually having some talent and leadership out there will help the VFL girls a lot.
Must have worked: the VFLW Blues had their 1st win for the season.
I looked through the report and there was no mention of Brooke Walker in it, nor in the photos.
Maybe she didn't end up playing?
I couldn't see her in any of the highlights either. Limited time on the field? Whatever. It bodes poorly for her availability in either of the last 2 games.
However, a win over Darebin is a win, and after 2 ordinary losses, a win is most satisfactory.
For those interested in the ladder and fixture for the VFL women's, this is the pretty much the only thing I could find, and it took a while to find it. Not sure why it needs to be so obscure, but anyway :
https://websites.sportstg.com/comp_info.cgi?c=0-3020-0-577342-0&pool=1&round=0&a=FIXTURE
The game against North was scheduled to start at 10.30 this morning, which means it should be well and truly over by now. The last score available shows us in the lead 52-44. I can't tell if this is the final score or not - the match centre still lists the game as "live now."
The VFL women get a massive raw deal in terms of visibility, news, updates. It's like someone's ashamed they even exist.
The twitter page for the CFC AFLW team states that the VFL team did win 52-44. Well done girls.
https://twitter.com/carltonfc_w
Wunderbar!
Even with the season going on, it is very difficult to find much about the VFLW girls at all. I can't even find a complete list!
One of the things that irritates me this year is the business with the football records. There hasn't been even one for the
AFLW! Not for a single game! I don't know what they are doing for the 'VFL' (which is played in lots of states), but there is only one edition for the AFL. Every game is covered by the same publication.
40 years ago I might have been silly enough to write down the scores for every game, but I am not that young anymore!
It's pretty poor IMO. It can't be that hard to cobble together a website comprising a team list, scores updates etc. Sheesh.
I actually went looking on the club website in regards to VFLW list the other day.
Last year, or the year before, they had AFL, AFLW, VFLW (no VFL as it was before we were a standalone club).
Now it hasn't added the VFL, but its also ditched the VFLW.
Indeed. Is this information a state secret? I can't believe so. After all, other clubs know who plays for us. Why can't we?

Well done girls.
We play the Pies next week, who sit 2nd and are currently undefeated. Will be a massive challenge.

The match report for our most recent win against Hawthorn.

If we could one of Trudgeon or Gibbs to dominate that position, we'll be better off in the AFLW. Really need a 2nd KPF
Both have shown some good signs, but neither has dominated anything yet. If one of them can develop, then we have our forward problems solved. I can't see it happening yet.
Er, what happened to the game ? Looks like they rescheduled it for tomorrow 2pm.
1/4 time score in the Blues Pies game :
Pies 1.4-10
Blues 0.0-0

Carlton play Richmond's VFL 'affiliate', Port Melbourne, this week at Port Melbourne on Sunday.
Port's ground is always a mud heap and is often affected by the wind.
Our lineup:
Backs: A.Bild C.Hammans A.Peterson
Half-backs: M.Guerin P.Trudgeon E.Honybun
Centreline: O.Madden
Half-forwards: T.Zampaglione S.Gibbs C.Jones

Interesting to see Charlotte Hammons at FB. She was recruited as a fast, athletic mid.
Also interesting to see Trudgeon at CHB.
Of the VFL girls, Honeybun and Madden are daughters of ... That seriously impresses me! I just hope they are as good as might imagine.
Like the Pies last week, Port are undefeated at the top of the ladder. Two very tough games in succession. Best of luck to the girls.
Currently scheduled for Sunday 18th, 2pm, ETU Stadium.
Trudgeon at CHB is what caught my eye.
Didn't get much of it up forward last week, so why not try back.
She could do the Al Downie tall defender role to free up Harrington.
We can hope. Ali Downie is very hard to replace!
Well she learned a new role in half a year for us.
Paige has a whole VFLW season and an AFLW pre-season to work it out.
Assuming she stays on the list that is.
There was an announcement today about list lodgements / draft dates etc. Its all up in the air but i think its going to be a month later than expected.....late May instead of April.
1st quarter score
Carlton 18 - Port 0
Progress score in the 2nd
Carlton 31 - Port 20
Half time score - no change
Carlton 31 - Port 20
3/4 time score
Port 40 - Carlton 39
Come on girls.
Full time score
Port 46 - Carlton 40
Big effort against an unbeaten side, but ... I was really hoping to wipe the smile off their faces.
Yep, same. Great start and great effort by the sounds of things.
Match report for the R7 clash against Port Melbourne. The girls currently sit 7th out of 12 teams.

We play North Melbourne at Arden St on Sunday at 12;00.
Not an easy task.
From last weeks review re BOG....
Not a bad wrap for her first game in defence.
We still need a key forward, but perhaps Paige could take over from Al Downie as the (super) tall defender to free up Kez?
Lets see how she goes down there again this week.
Final score in the R8 clash. North 47, CFC 6.
Ugh.................
Here is the match report for the R8 clash against North.

This week we play the Drug Cheats on Saturday!
Backs: P.Trudgeon J.Coletti C.Hammans
Half-backs: E.Honybun D.Walker
Centreline: G.Egan
Half-forwards: T.Zampaglione S.Gibbs C.Jones
Forwards: S.Lawrence E.Wood O.Madden
Followers: J.Borg A.Klingbeil A.McKay

Emergencies: T.Brett M.Wilson S.Ingram
Ins: Charlotte Wilson, Daisy Walker, Grace Egan, Abbie McKay
Outs: Winnie Laing (managed), Mikayla Barnes (injured), Sarah Ingram (omitted), Jasmine Ware (injured)
You will note a couple of inconsistencies in the published team:
[1] No HBF named
[2] Jasmine Ware was dropped for being injured, yet she is named on the bench.
I'm not going there, but someone made a few errors and it wasn't me.
A few more AFLW girls this week will help the side no end!
Hopefully we'll pound the Drug Cheats!
We were well beaten. Very disappointing.
Yep. The score went from 47-13 at three quarter time to 72-19 at FT. Sheesh.

The match report for the R9 Blues - Bulldogs clash.
The Girls played at 10:30 this morning against Casey at Casey Fields. Haven't been able to find the result yet.
Brooke Walker kicked 3 in a comeback win supposedly.
Carlton 8.3-51, Casey 3.7-25.
Carlton 8.3 (51) def. Casey 3.7 (25)
Casey was 23 before we got on the scoreboard.
Fair to say we dominated after quarter time.

For those interested, the match report for the Carlton v Casey game. It's been a lean few weeks for the vfl girls, so this victory is pretty sweet.
Brooke Walker (Managed) after only one game? :o
Good to see Gregan back, and AMcK is another nice in.
Re managed...
She may have a niggle who knows.
However, there is a 'points system' in place in the vflw that is based on players value. It's a crude version of supercoach. You have a set cap and you can allocate that as you see fit.
Short version, you can't have too many aflw players in the one team.
Fair enough, not sure though how that actually helps improves the sport, limiting how much the better players can actually play!
For example, I'd much prefer Tayla Harris playing football in VFLW than competing in some B-Grade boxing, but that might be all a bit too late for us!
For those interested, the girls play Geelong today. Game is already underway. Started at 11am, Ikon Park.
Current score Carlton 15, Geelong 8.
You may also like to know that the AFL website has finally uploaded a fixture for the VFLW. Progress. As fas as I can tell, there's no team lists or update scores as yet.
The team for the Geelong game:
Backs: A.Micallef N.Plane M.Chaplin
Half-backs: D.Walker P.Trudgeon E.Honybun
Centreline: L.McEvoy
Half-forwards: C.Jones C.Wilson G.Egan

Followers: J.Borg A.McKay M.Guerin
Interchange: E.Wood B.Gurr O.Madden T.Delgado A.Klingbeil
Emergencies: T.Zampaglione M.Jarvis J.Ware
Not a tall side, but hopefully one that can get the job done.
Half time score : Carlton 16, Geelong 8.
3/4 time score : Carlton 18, Geelong 14.
Lucy McEvoy kicks truly. Carlton 24, Geelong 14.
Full time. Carlton 30, Geelong 22.
2 wins in a row. Well done girls.
Indeed. I am more than a little surprised at the low score line, but a win is always welcome!

The match report for the most recent VFLW game, Blues v Cats.
This week's game has been 'postponed'. God knows when it will be played. A pity, as the girls have really improved recently.

Full time : Saints 47, Carlton 39.
I was hoping at least one of our teams would register a win, but not this time sadly.
Reserves won yesterday Pauly.
Ahh yes, you're right. My bad. I was reading all the comments yesterday and progress scores - it was all doom and gloom and I didn't bother checking the final score. Sorry.
What a fail of a last quarter. :( Seems to be contagious.
The last game of the season happens this Sunday against Williamstown at Williamstown. No chance of playing in the finals, so this is it.
It is at the same time as the VFL game at Preston, which will mean that few Blues will be in the crowd.
The team:
Backs: A.Micallef T.Delgado A.Peterson
Half-backs: A.Bild J.Coletti E.Honybun
Centreline: B.Gurr

For those interested, the season is now over, and we finished 8th out of 12 teams. The Collingwood girls went through undefeated.

The official match report from our final game.
Well, we ended the season with a bang but the season itself was just a whimper.
I'm not sure how seriously the club takes the VFLW but I'd like to see more of our AFLW players involved. I know that there are constraints but it would be beneficial to both the VFLW and AFLW teams. And the season is too short; another four rounds should be added!
https://womens.afl/news/72868/hawks-vflw-assistant-awarded-prestigious-women-s-coaching-scholarship
Noteworthy for 2 reasons :
1. Christina Polatajko worked with our VFLW girls
2. She's being mentored by Bolts, and she goes on to win an award ;D
