The VFLW season starts this weekend with the Blues playing Geelong at Geelong.
Backs: Mia Cowan Bryannen Gurr
Half-backs: Brooke Vernon Nadia Moore Annie Lee
Centreline: Ally Bild Ashlee Thorneycroft Vanessa Murphy
Half-forwards: Jessica Stramandinoli Imogen Milford Charlotte Hammans
Forwards: Poppy Schaap Stephanie Lawrence
Followers: Jorja Borg Amelia Klingbeil Maddy Guerin
Interchange: Abbey Jordan Madeleine Di Cosmo Lily Goss Olivia Madden Sarah Ingram Laura Robertson
Emergencies: Teresa Zampaliogne Lauren Suleiman Marnie Jarvis Taylah Kolevski
With 6 AFLW Blues playing, it gives them a chance to get match practice and form, where it has not been possible before.
We will lose one of the girls as travelling emergency, but it is a major improvement over the situation of recent weeks.
The VFLW Blues also have a lot of new girls playing this season, with 9 girls making their debut against Geelong.
I did the maths earlier
21 in AFLW side
6 in VFLW side - which includes 1 travelling emergency
=
3 injuries - Jones (H+S), Vickers (ankle), Sherar (hand)
So this is as fit as we've been all year.
The Blues got thrashed by almost 10 goals. :-[ :-[
I only saw about 30 seconds of the game on the stream, but it was enough. No sound, no idea who was who. A very unsatisfactory experience all round.
This week the Blues play the Southern Saints on Saturday morning at Ikon Park. Disappointing the game isn't a curtain raiser for the AFLW in the afternoon, but that is the way things fall in these Covid times.
Haven't we got 3 games vs the saints on this day?
VFLW, AFL (praccy match) and AFLW?
This week's side:
Backs: Brooke Vernon Bry Gurr
Half-backs: Annie Lee Charlotte Wilson Vanessa Murphy
Centreline: Ally Bild Amelia Klingbeil Lauren Brazzale
Half-forwards: Brooke Walker Charlotte Hammans Esther Honybun
Forwards: Poppy Schaap Imogen Milford
Followers: Jorja Borg Lily Goss Ashlee Thorneycroft
Interchange: Mia Cowan Madeleine Di Cosmo Abbey Jordan Thomay Nicolaou Stephanie Lawrence
A stronger looking line-up this week. Hopefully we can perform better.
Carlton 1.0 3.0 4.1 5. 3 33
Saints 0.4 2. 4. 2.6 3.7 25
Goals: Schapp 2, Hammans 2, Kleingbeil
Best: Goss, Murphy, Honybun, Schaap
Yes, the girls are on the board for 2022! The right-up sounds much more positive.
The Blues play Essendon this week, who are on top. Quite a scalp if we can beat them.
Backs: Brooke Vernon Bry Gurr
Half-backs: Annie Lee Charlotte Wilson Abbey Jordan
Centreline: Ally Bild Amelia Klingbeil Lauren Brazzale
Half-forwards: Brooke Walker Charlotte Hammans Esther Honybun
Forwards: Teresa Zampaglione Imogen Milford
Followers: Jorja Borg Lily Goss Ashlee Thorneycroft
Interchange: Nadia Moore Madeleine Di Cosmo Vanessa Murphy Thomay Nicolaou Stephanie Lawrence
The AFLW girls side is unchanged for the first time this year, and after a dominant win you can understand why.
That VFLW side has a lot of talent and a lot of former regulars in the 1's side, so if they wanna force their way back into it, this game against the ladder leaders is as good a time as any.
Ideally, i'd like to see Brooke Walker dominate.
Poppy Schaap not named....travelling emergency?
The girls lost.
Carlton 0.1.1 1.1.7 1.1.7 4.3.27
Essendon 3.3.21 8.5.53 11.6.72 12.7.79
Goals: Milford 3, Klingbeil
Best: Klingbeil, Goss, Milford, Brazzale
Milford doing well is promising.
Another debut on the cards?
At 1000 today, the VFLW team play Port Melbourne.
Backs: Nadia Moore Bry Gurr
Half-backs: Annie Lee Charlotte Wilson Madeleine Di Cosmo
Centreline: Charlotte Hammans Amelia Klingbeil Lauren Brazzale
Half-forwards: Ally Bild Stephanie Lawrence Thomay Nicolaou
Forwards: Poppy Schaap Imogen Milford
Followers: Jorja Borg Lily Goss Ashlee Thorneycroft
Interchange: Mia Cowan Teresa Zampaglione Abbey Jordan Jessica Stramandinoli Sarah Ingram
Hope the girls can get up. Poppy Schaap is a good inclusion.
The girls lost by 20 points. :(
Sorry, I've been a bit slack of late.
However, the girls defeated Collingwood this weekend, to make it a clean sweep.
Carlton 0.2.2 2.3.15 5.4.34 5.5.35
Collingwood 1.2.8 2.2.14 2.3.15 4.8.32
Goals: Lawrence 2, Cowan, Wilson, Wood.
Best: Klingbeil, Nicolaou, Bild, Wilson, Wood.
A pretty good effort, everything considered. We had a few new girls this round. Nice to see Charlotte Wilson playing a bit better. She is an important part of the AFLW side when she is fit and firing, neither which has been the case this year.
Klingbeil continues to impress each week!

Wasn't charlotte wilson crash....another wilson.
The feat was even more impressive considering we didn't have 1 AFLW listed girl in that side.
My bad.
It does say a lot that we won without any of the AFLW girls.
I'm not sure how many players will play vflw now, they have to get their time off before the new aflw season starts in august

The girls were slaughtered. We kicked 1 point.

Williamstown 0.0.0 1.3.9 1.5.11 2.6.18
Goals: Wood, Cowan.
Best: Di Cosmo, Plummer, Lawrence, Goss, Gurr, Madden.
Good news: Serena Gibbs is running around with our VFL team this weekend. She was sorely missed last year. Hopefully, her mental state is where it should be.
Serena Gibbs seemed pretty happy after slotting a nice goal. She may have her mojo back :)
Hope so. Girls Can't make the finals after losing last weekend, but we're not that strong this year. I'll post the team if it comes out.
Lots of changes for this weeks game, including a couple of Northern Knights stars. Looking to see who we can draft?
Last game for the season against the winless Dogs at Carlton.

Blues won by 83 points!
Carlton 13 - 7 - 85
Dogs 0 - 2 - 2
Not bad considering Jorja Borg was poached by the bombers (or was it Hawks?)
Top effort by the girls to kick such a high score.
