Not sure that we have the right line-up to get the job done, but with so many in the injury room at the moment, these guys have to get the job done.
Let's go. September here we come!
Fisher misses 30 meters out with no one around him nice start
Be nice if we could actually get our hand on the ball!
Tdk getting smashed
Disposal terrible so far.
Defence has been very good so far
Setterfield like Pendlebury lol.
He’s an absolute dud. Slow leg speed and even slower brain.
Didnt say he was like Pendelbury I said his distribution by hand in close is. No need for these type of swipes. Forwards were standing like statues he should have had a shot.
First 2 touches i saw he got tackled before he got rid of it.
first kick i remember he turned it over.
Too slow of mind.
Strike number two for number 22, he's already over-ruled the closest umpire twice in the Lions favour.
This game appears to be very hard work for us and I hope it doesn’t end up being a very ugly loss. So much work for not a single goal on the scoreboard late in the first quarter is not a great sign.
Not an ounce of the flair and dashing style of footy we played in the first 3 weeks. This is gonna get ugly.
Sorry mate. I mean no offence but I actually did think you were being sarcastic before.
Carrying on from last weeks final quarter reckon we will get better as the game goes on.
Too high?
Front of shoulder hit him in the head??
End result a goal to Nathan22
Game over.
Nope - he is currently one of a hand few of players running hard to open spaces providing an option. 2 of three goals came from Weitering and now McGovern turn overs not Setterfields.
Too nervous, too safe. No boldness, no risk. Don't look like scoring. Defense doing their bit, the rest... mmm.
20 to 8 inside fifties. Getting smashed
Need to rethink our midfield setup.
Can't get the ball I50.
Swap a few players around, then suddenly we can get ourselves back into the game.
This is appalling.
Wow. This is getting ugly for sure. Could be a hard percentage hit today.
Coughed up another goal from turnover
Lions are allowing him the space because he won't hurt them.
10 scoring shots to 1....if they'd kicked straight we'd be 7 or 8 goals behind already. Don't deserve to be playing finals footy if this is the best we can put up.
Move Saad. Move a few others also. Expecting change without a coaching change could be a huge problem. I can’t see the current set up working for the next 3 quarters. Probably one injury away from a record thrashing.
Embarrassing. Even sad.
BrisVegas players laughing amongst themselves. Wouldn't want to get too cocky.
Being smashed in the ruck. Charlie and Big H both flying for the same mark. De Koning outclassed and costly turnovers by Owies, Setterfield and Weitering are indicators we are in for a belting.
We are getting diabolically annhialated in clearances and being out tackled despite not having the ball.
Brisbane working harder more desperate.
57.1% disposal efficiency for your man, despite most of his possessions being uncontested.
No tackles.
No clearances.
So he is getting the loose ball, staying away from the hard stuff.
....and doing not much with it given the DE%.
Tell me again how he is worth praising?
What is this nonsense - my man? What? Move on mate. He is getting his hands on the ball - they are all turning the ball over. Get with it mate, you are boring.
Wake me up when this nightmare is over!
Was the ducking rule brought in for one player or what?
You call him cripps/pendlebury like.
Nice up and under turnover from him for a turnover.
Caught in no mans land with no pressure at that goal.....which he should've stopped.
We can’t sustain this pressure and free up efficient ball movement. We could have no goals scored in the first half. This is very troubling to watch.
Weak as possible. What a joke.
If you wanted to know why Dow cant get a game you are finding out.
Now, where have I seen this before?
We look a bottom 4 side. Can’t hit a target to save ourself.
Plenty of deja vu.
BrisVegas came into the game with the boldness.
More nonsense never called him Cripps/Pendelbury like even if I did - what gives you the right to throw these barrages?
I repeat - Setters has Pendelbury-like distribution by hand in close... never mentioned Cripps. Go and drink some cool aid you are getting ridiculous.
Like I said, talk is cheap.
Numero uno priority, a screwen tacking coach
Well Cripps won't be playing last week....but hopefully it inspires our group today.
Cripps trying to take the physical approach. He might be in trouble. Hard to tell.
Should have hit neale
Finally a goal. Voss. Please make some changes.
Its a fine - had eyes on the ball.
Mitch Robinson coming on. This is going to get ugly. Someone is going to get hit. Watch out Cripps.
Lucky goal. I thought the Brisbane player marked the ball. Just saying.
He might have Pendelbury like distribution in close (i call BS) but he never gets the hard ball, so hard to argue.
The fact his disposal efficiency is so low, despite having many uncontested possessions seems to suggest the opposite though
Good work Motlop. Looks like momentum might swing at the right moment.
Cripps has fired up the boys, all aboard.....
Ah Chee being out for the game means Cripps is definitely in trouble.
Well at least we are not having a garbage 2nd quarter again
13 shots to 3. Oh dear.
Where's the ruthlessness, mongrel, hard edge gone? So dispirited, so quickly. Someone has to do something... Bring the hardness and they'll start to question themselves.
Did you say something - I must have missed it.
Yeah, i wouldn't trust your eyes either.
Luke Darcy doing a job on Cripps, wants the Bulldogs in the finals, calling it a shirtfront.
Christian will play ball, Cripps MRO = 3 weeks!
Paddy Dow doesn't have a back?
Flat out pushed him to ground....play on.
Weak as piss
Seconds later there is why Dow shouldn't be in the side, didn't even fly for the intercept!
Got in perfect position, then just watched in drop over his head into opposition arms.
Setterfield should never play for our club again.
got a few mates out there, we are soft as butter at the minute
Again Dow. Weak as piss.
Setterfield and Dow can start clearing their lockers out. Neither of them are playing if Kennedy and Hewett are fit.
There are a few being beaten, whether you win the contest or not isn't the issue, making the contest is a non-negotiable with Voss.
That is why Dow isn't getting a game!
Come on guys. If they hit targets that easy, we are in trouble. Momentum straight back the other way, and the quarter becomes nothing more than another loss of scoreboard pressure.
Dow has looked ordinary, but in fairness, its his first game in the ones for half a year.
He'll have to play next week and hopefully he is up to speed by then.
If you try and break the tackle....and fail....how can you have no prior opportunity?
He had the opportunity to dispose, he chose to try and break the tackle.
don't care about the next two games, into the gym come Monday we so easily beaten in physical contests, it's like kids vs men.
Twice right then, Owies attacks the footy and opposition while Dow stands watching just a meter or two away!
The first the Lions take it away and score, the second we have the numbers and the Lions lock it up.
I will give him a pass. Setterfield has played a few more recently. Has been shocking.
Personally, i called for Setterfield to be dropped for this game, and had Plowman in the side instead.
When the changes came through, i thought fair enough, they were both as bad as eachother.
Plowman would've been better.
This is not what I expected, Wanted a hard ass effort, instead they have intimidated us. Fight back FFS!! You have a bloke like Mathison who has been running around in the twos, plays against us an looks like a brownlow favourite. Im sick of that crap. Time for SOS to thrown so weight, and fists, around.
Dow....career average less than 14 disposals per game.....5th year at the club....fair to say that time is running out IMO.
Cripps will have a holiday, might as well knock a few more over now.
We have gone right off the boil. Younger sides in our position can do that. We'll may just fall into the finals but that will be it. Feeling like we are just hanging on in relation to the season. There's been progression this year but the finish is looking ugly. Suppose Rome wasn't built in a day.
It will be a close one for Cripps - eyes on the ball in a football collision but hit him high and player concussed... interesting one - no problem how Cripps approached the contest when ball was still in dispute and could have spoiled if he got there a fraction earlier.
We are still in it cleaned up clearance work in 2nd quarter hopefully we keep grinding and pick up some form win or lose.
I have a feeling we are going to come back.
Where exactly does this feeling come from?
If we do I coming back to you for next week's lotto numbers.....lol.
I hope you're right. I have a feeling we won't come back. I hope I'm wrong.
Go Blues
We are Carlton supporters, we are supposed to expect the worst.
Need to get Charlie and Harry in the game
I had this feeling against the Tigers in the 2013 finals.
We also had Chris Judd
Press too aggressive and no sweeper in backline. Out coached?
Lets face it
1 we can tackle properly
2 we miss easy targets around the ground by hand and foot
3 we miss easy shots at goal
4 we are a touch on the slow side and get opened up way to easily
Young has been poor the last couple of weeks
Agree but not their fault. Kicking into 50 is deplorable. Wouldn’t matter who was down there if you kick in they way we are.
Walsh has had a shocker
5 I rarely see other teams do that no look around the corner, no look kick to no one in particilar
Kennedy and Hewitt are more important than we think
Wave the white flag please
Because the back ups are miles behind
Zorko always make us look like fools
A few junk time goals will be really important for our percentage. Talk about going right off the boil..
Hope the guys paid for their tickets because they are all just spectators.
Why didn't we get the free for incorrect disposal from the cripps tackle at half forward? FMD
I think it about much more than those 2 players. As important as they are.
Curnow kick to martin where he was 1 on 2 as he kicked it and 1 on 6 by the time he got there.
Just frittering away what chances we do get. Pathetic really.
Setterfield paid for a front row ticket.
The last 5 times i've seen him he has been near a contest, but literally done nothing to effect it, or spread for it.
He was at the loose ball from the last goal.
No hunger to impose on the contest, just watches.
Done.
three goals in over half a game pretty much game over.
The irony is Brisbane are getting more numbers back
Yep...the depth are only depth in name, interstate teams are tough enough at home but when you are down your frontline troops its impossible to compete and the Lions have gone hard at us and exposed a few players who are not at the level required.
Worst part of this effort is the hit to our %.
Brings a few teams into finals calculations that shouldn't be a chance.
Paganesque :(
Yep, those suggesting he is replacement material for Hewett and Kennedy need to watch this game a few times..
Some players can act as catalysts that improve the performance of the whole team.
As Rexy used to say, deestroyation
Setterfield watched that play from the wing to half forward, within 1m of the ball the whole time, but had zero effect on it again. He may as well been on the bench.
He looks like a footballer, but he doesn't play like a footballer.
Setterfield isnt any better nor worse than the collective team - you can say the same thing about every player on the ground today.
Singling out a player thats playing out of position is cringy.
He was compared to Kouta before he was drafted. Must have been post 2001 Kouta.
Here is a list for you:
Martin
Setterfield
Fisher
Owies
Cerra
Obrien
Newnes
I'll let your work out what's wrong with that list in the same team.
He was holding up the midfield in 2020 and half of 2021 with Walsh when Cripps was playing like garbage - short memmories?
Pathetic response. Put the cue in the rack this year. Injuries have exposed our cracks and those cracks must go.....
You just know the Capt won't be playing anymore part of it. We are Carlton....
Still a long way off the good sides.
Only similarity with Kouta is the number on his back.
So he's the reason the coach was sacked then?
Brisbane have a very healthy list. We are not that far off imo.
I think it was as a 18yo kid compared to kouta as a 40yo or whatever he was at the time. ;)
Price of fish is?? Do you have short memmory?
Compare the responses after they cough a 42 point lead and we get our pants pulled down by 15th, here endeth the lesson.
No, but i remember him playing as a back pocket during that same period.
I remember us playing Dow during that time too.
Just because he played there, and just because that is his best position, it doesn't mean he is AFL level standard!
Our percentage has dropped to the same as the dogs.
Ouch. Ouch. Ouch. Waiting to see the percentage hit in the last quarter. Season might be close to over.
He was holding up the midfield with Walsh and Ed Curnow while Cripps and Dow were playing rubbish football... he was 21-22 y.o
Short memmory?
Season ended last week my friend, % been terrible for months, needed to counter it by W's like the Filth have.
De Koning is being thrashed in the ruck. Why leave him there? Big H and Charlie not seeing the ball on the forward line. Voss, make some moves.
He played a grand total of 24 games during those 2 years
He averaged 15 touches.
He was 22-23 over that period.
You wanna talk about memory, yours is failing you.
Pitonet should never have been dropped.
And some thought last week was just an aberration. Wish I was surprised but this is where our form since the bye has been heading... weaknesses on full display. Came into the game without dare and risk. Still much work to be done, especially above the shoulders, not to mention a few non-hackers given their pink slips. And we all know who they are.
Again the disconnect between mid and forward is apparent. Expecting to kick a winning score with such an issue is just silly.
in 2020 he was 22-23 really? - funny because he turned 24 in Feb. Maths not a strong suit and memmory not that great?
Definitely time to throw the team around.
Such a shame and sad ending to a season. Considering how well we were travelling earlier in the season. Sure injuries killed us.
The old MC has done it again to us
No need to panic - stay the course. We are woefully out of form due to constant chopping and changing playing against teams with healthy lists that have built strong synergy this time of year and in form. It was bound to happen injuries have stuffed us.
Find a year injuries have not stuffed us?
Id put Saad, Doc, Gov in the Midifield, Cerra, Walsh, Fisher in the backline and see how they like it.
Great post.
Note to recruiters - Go out and get some Big bodyed players who havnt got bulging discs...
Don't need maths.
Its all done for me.

Round: 1 Venue: M.C.G. Date: Thu, 19-Mar-2020 7:40 PM (6:40 PM)
43 Setterfield, Will 22y 43d
You are wrong.
Holding up the midfield with 15 touches.???
Dow averaged the same and played more games....and was younger in 2021.
Ed Curnow averaged more.
Cripps averaged more.
You are embarrassing yourself.
....and this is coming from a guy who has defended Setterfield more than most. But i call BS when i see it, and you are spreading it a lot in regards to Setterfield.
Impossible but need our injuries to eventually come down to the AFL average if we are going to be a bonafide finals team.
Pinot everyone has niggles and injuries this time of the year.
Yeah he just turned 22 where did you find 23 from? Backtracking much with that post full of diatribe?
Look through injury lists of top 8 sides and you will find that's not entirely correct.
Goodness me Paddy, you get given a chance dish that up.
If we can put a bit of respectability on the scoreboard now Ill be happy
Do yourself a favour and give up.
As a 21-22 yo he was holding up the midfield in 2020-2021.
Where did i get 22-23 from?
Well, he was 22 in 2020
and he was 23 in 2021.
Do i need to draw you a diagram?
You have tried to insult me with takes on my memory and maths ability, yet in both instances YOU were wrong.
Now with the trifecta of 'holding up the midfield' comments, its 3 strikes and you're out.
Look, if you are related to him, i get it, but if he is just a bloke you are trying justify his position, forget it.
That sounds like Crows game
Dare to dream?
Sorry my mistake 2019 and 2020 when he was 20-22 years old. Not related to him but will stand up for him against dumb people.
Ffs Martin injured again
Goodbye, thanks for playing
Can the Carlton side who ran out after 3/4 time please identify yourself
Regardless of the result from here.....dominating a top team should give us enough belief to come out of the blocks well next week.
So will I.
But overexaggerating his abilities doesn't do you, or him, any favours.
At least Marchbank and McGovern are still fit,
Where did I over exaggerate? He was a midfield mainstay and did exceptionally well as a youngster. Few injuries here and there but as a talent I will stand by him against the clueless.
A couple more goals and a close loss please, just for percentage sake.
Only the parts that you typed.
We need Durdin fit.
He's the only one he can do that.
Glad we are playing ourselves into form and grinding it out. Melbourne beware.
3 minutes left.
3 goals required.
Leigh Matthews rule at work.
TACKLES WIN MATCHES
That is at least better than the 10 we needed not long ago.
But not as good as the 5 in 2.5 minutes we need now. lol
Zero awareness of loose players in the goal square.
Couldn't even hang on to the 15pt deficit with a few min to go.
Better to lose by 6 goals giving yourself a chance of winning it than to lose by 3 goals and playing defensive.
Yep, even frittered that away.
I would have been happy with the 15pt loss and keeping the percentage we clawed back. It could be vital. Had no great ambition of winning.
Attention to detail, at the centre bounce before those three Bris goals, if Im Cripps I go to TDK and say to him you crack in hard at the centre bounce and get that knee right into the centre of OM's chest.
Mids you get ready here to win this contest.
Instead soft take away, momentum lost and the rest is history
24 v 8 centre clearances. Very poor
I wanted Pitto in at the expense of TDK.
I reckon that change would've evened up that ledger a bit
That was pure torture.
And our weak % drops further
We gave them a fright and thats all you can ask imo - if we play elimination final in Brissy need Hewett and Kennedy back into that team. Our form improved dramatically after qtr time thats an important green shoot.
Even that last few minutes we had got back into the game, albeit without a real shot at winning. got our percentage back then let them kick 3 easy ones. Fk me! Couldn't even maintain the 15pt margin with 3 min to go. That would have been at least something and some real momentum to carry into next week. Even stuffed that up.
Lions were on after losing last week, they hit us hard early and made it clear who was boss and we folded up, a few junk goals in the last quarter made it look better than it was but were just smashed all day and offered little back.
Agree Pittonet would have helped as TDK looks cooked and needs a rest..........he will be back next week vs the Dees where it wont get an easier. Think we all know it would come down to the Collingwood game more than likely, problem is we are limping into the finals and will probably get pummelled in the 1st week given how things are going.
Lets hope we dont lose Cripps to the tribunal either as its never great when the player goes off and doesnt come back.....
- Hewitt is more than likely out for the year
- Kennedy will miss more than 3 weeks
- That was our elimination final at the Gabba, we won't make the 8.
If we play an Elimination Final it'll be from 8th and I reckon Collingwood in consecutive weeks.
Cripps is gone, left the ground, collected the head, player concussed, what else do you want.
Reckon we hang on and fall into 8th but we are struggling to keep going at the end of a long season.
Still, it is progress from recent times. Takes a while to become a true contender and you get some crap while on the way up.
Next week will be very tough for the club another good team with a very healthy list. But we have weapons as well just need our form to improve and get some of our bulls back. I wanted to see our form to improve this match and I think we got it. I'm more confident of making the eight this week than end of last week .
Eyes on the ball, trying to punch the ball away. As Leigh Matthews said there should be no case to answer in that situation.
We finished well and often that momentum carries into next week. Hence I was disappointed we crushed momentum in those last 3 min.
I'd a love a birth in the 8, I just dont think we will get there and some losses in the last month or so are the cause.
A good lawyer and a miracle....
Ill look again and Ill stand corrected but it looked like there was no attempt to punch, just a bump.
Reckon he will get off at tribunal. He had his eyes on the ball and turned his body mid air while attempting to spoil the ball when in dispute - football collision - Cripps is one of the cleanest players in the game and his record should go a long way. It was a timing issue and it was just a fraction off.
Melbourne will be on after losing to the Pies.....wont have Cripps and they have two class rucks vs our banged up kid....no Hewett, no Kennedy and their replacements couldnt get a kick in a cattle yard, apart from that we are in great shape..
Agree......no duty of care, player injured and missed the game......not malicious but its going to be a week imho.
Perhaps the most important factor in this is: We are Carlton
2 weeks minimum. Dog act.
Im usually one to call a spade a spade. I thought he was gone in real time, the slow motion replay helps cripps immensely.
Superstar discount. He will only miss a week if he misses at all.
Has a good record too.
Reckon its 50% the result too...if the player gets up and carries on you have some chance to get off but if they get med subbed out then you are history usually...
yep ah chee being subbed out hurts him.
You know whats funny? Benchmark against will Hayes. Cripps incident is way worse but he'll get a lighter sentence.
There is no spoil there to my eye.
https://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/patrick-cripps-flattens-callum-ah-chee-with-monster-hip-and-shoulder/news-story/f479daa50f361b57a51b9f7a97108ef4
I suspect you're being a smart ass, but just in case, it wasn't a dog act but it was careless and should receive a week but current definitions.
Exact opposite to what Leigh Matthews said.
Lethal v Ralph. Know who I would listen to.
https://www.theroar.com.au/afl/video/watch-is-patrick-cripps-in-strife-for-brutal-hit-on-lion-1216433/?fbclid=IwAR1FGUma8ur1-Q0h_Xbl5maI7fPGXO48S5NO7dJQDgerLfU2x5xY5U-IEuA
You could easily argue the ball was in dispute when Cripps left the ground to spoil the ball and turned his body when he realised wasn't going to get there.
4 goals in 3 qtrs, 8 in the last, ball game right there, disappointing.
This Leigh Matthews? Yeah he'd know what's acceptable.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wi0nnmPYZu8
Sure, you could easily argue it, but "computer says no".
Jumped. Made contact to the head. Subbed out of the game due to injury.
I don't care if his intentions was to save orphans from a burning building.....you can't escape that.
Reckon it won't be.
....there is a bye inbetween ;)
Not sure what the computer will say but the club should challenge it vigorously as a football collision - got nothing to lose if we do.
I was but the same people pleading Cripps' innocence would have called Hodge or Selwood in the past for doing similar to us.
Yep spot on. And identical for dow well
