Game set for Sunday at 12:00 at Willi.
Expect conditions to be pretty ordinary; the wind there is the worst 0f any ground I know of.
This game on free to air
No team sheet published as yet.
Keen to have a look see at this one. Saw on FB Marchy is having a run, will be interesting to see how TDK goes.
Didn't realise Binns was one of the best runners at the club along with Cottrell. Commentator reckons he clocks up 16km a game without breaking a sweat, elite.
Nice bomb of a goal from Moo (with a gale behind him)
Apparantly Marchbank is playing. Good to see him back, hopefully he can get through ok.
Listening to Ebert talk, Binns is still in a development (lots of room for improvement) phase so I can't see him coming in anytime soon despite calls from many to include him in the ones.
Haven't seen Marchbank out there yet, must be managing his minutes in the second half or something like that.
Plowman, can't make a 45mtr kick with the wind behind him ::)
Nate Caddy playing for us (from the Knights). Just kicked a nice goal roving the front of the pack.
1.1.7 Them
3.6.24 Us
Dunno if we use the gale enough.

Took them 10 secs to kick their first of the 2nd qtr
Marchbank on this qtr
OMG TDK kicks it the wrong way?!!
Marchy is out there, yay!
TDK just kicked the ball the wrong way out of the ruck. Oppo goal to level up the scores 😳
Why do our players handball to stationary players? Does my head in.
F@RK me the umpires in this game are AFL standard
So far, safe to say Fisher won't be being picked for a recall anytime soon.
Willi players obviously know the ground the the conditions and are using the wind far better.
What a rubbish ground to play football on.
Fish has been horrible. Willi players are killing us. Think TDK has been OK (apart from that kick) Kemp doing well I think. Like the workrate of Binns.
Harder at the ball and as you say know the conditions...
Willi players kicking it beautifully
Yes like the look of Binns, foot skills are excellent, the pass just then to Ronke on his non preferred was elite.
1/2 time
6 6 42 Them
4 7 31 Us
Rubbish ground and conditions are the difference.
TDK
Fisher
Dow
Marchbank
Plowman
Cowan
Fogarty
Parks
Kemp
A team with the above AFL listed players should be smashing Willi.
How many on that list will be playing next yr. Maybe Kemp..
Like the look of this Caddy kid. Only 17.
Still, we should be beating them with those blokes
Hope we dont “Carltonise” him in one game
Lemmey and Okeef havent touched it
EB I was mentioning him to you in the pre season. The kid has something. And has that bit of arrogance and swagger about him. Hes the type of kid we should be targeting not pretty boys or blokes with pre-existing knee injuries!
Looks like an interesting draft prospect. But as a 192cm marking forward type, would he fill a need for us? He’s not the small crumbing forward we need although a Bayley Fritch type would be useful. We’d probably need to use our 1st round pick on him to get him.
They have been witches hats.
Kemp has been real good
Geel list manager watching his acquisition run around around.
Bloody hell, spoke too soon! What a brain fade
Yep, that should see his card marked for the next few weeks.
The stupidity runs deep at the CFC. 3 point lead at 3/4 time not nearly enough. Probably around 5 goal defeat coming up
I can't help but think the average IQ of footballers have decreased over the years.
How hard is to work out which way the wind is blowing and allow for that swing in your kicks.
Willi defenders are standing 'wind side' and the ball is falling into their lap every time.
We on the other hand are kicking it 'at' the goals and 'at' our teammates and are surprised when the wing drags it away from both the goals and our teammates.
Dumb football.
We'll get done by 6+ goals from here unless we work out how to play with a wind.
Seems we excel at kick ins to effect oppo goals. Where's your man????
Yep I’ve been saying it for years. We are the dumbest collection of footballers by some
Bad attitude by some of our listed players. First Kemp’s self-indulgent push in the back to gift a goal. Then Akeui who couldn’t be bothered taking his hands off his hips while standing the mark after being out marked by Ottavi. Fair enough, the stand rule makes it hard to do much when you’re on the mark but it ain’t a great look. Looks like he’s sooking.
That sort of common sense instruction can be coached.
We are getting beaten from the ruck, to the ball, and everywhere in between. Defence. Well. .
Yes.....but it is also something that players should be well aware of at this level.
My son is playing his first year of U9's. He basically new nothing about how footy worked when he started apart from what a handball, a kick and a mark was.
In less than half a season playing he has learned how to man up (where to stand and when) where position himself during marking contests if he's not involved. Learned about the path to goals from FB to FF (follow boundary line out, square up to hotspot). Where to position if you don't have an opponent. As well as all the rules that goes along with it all. On top of that, he's learned how to adapt all of the above when its wet....and when its windy.
The kid is not even 9 FFS. These blokes have been playing footy longer than he has been alive and still struggling with those basics.
"he who will not be named" pretty good again today but it's hardly worth mentioning as we know he is persona non grata so we'll move on to the others. I think TDK has really worked hard all day and probably 2nd best on ground. Kemp bar a brain fade or two was solid. Binns first half was good. Marchbank looks like he's going to get through the match which is great Fisher better in the 2nd half but still nowhere near a call up. Honey, well better left unsaid. Forgarty, patchy. Plowman, meh. Cowan was solid.
Took me a while to work out who you were talking about. First i thought TDK, then Plowman....but landed on Dow by the end of it.
He has been good, and you probably couldn't ask him to do much more......but he hasn't been great with his disposal. Sure, worst conditions to be judging that, but still think he has to improve that area......especially since its the achillies heel of the 1's!
Bad day to assess Dow. We really want to know whether his kicking has improved but in a high wind day how would you know? For instance, he kicked a nice pass to Lemmey who marked and goaled but was that due to good kicking skills or a bit of luck from the wind blowing it back to Lemmey? Unfortunately, the wind robbed Dow of a chance to prove himself.
From what I saw today I thought for the most part Dow's kicks were good.
Shawny, Mark and kick player, is strongly built and plays like Fogarty of the Crows, needs to improve his ground game and get quicker. Everyone wants that Bailey Fritsch type player as the third forward who can mark the ball but also can be elusive at ground level and kick like an arrow. Stkilda got that player in Phillipou, I think Caddy isnt there yet...
What was the final score?
Willi 80 - Carl 60
Remember that we already have a superior version of Bayley Fritsch: Charlie Curnow. Good in the air and on the ground. He’s pretty much the same height as Caddy: 194cm vs Caddy’s 192cm (while Fritsch is 188cm). The last thing we want is another marking forward competing with Harry and Charlie for marks.
If it allows us to play Harry as a dedicated 2nd ruck, it'd be a path worth taking.
You can't have too much talent on your list, and talent he has.
Worry about his position later.
Some site called The Inner Sanctum opined that Caddy is at no.6 and that was before the VFL game. Fair chance he’ll be gone before we pick. I guess if you are a fan of Caddy (nephew of Richmond’s Josh Caddy), that will take the sting out of coming losses!
Bigger blokes with athleticism usually get picked up pretty early, but at pick 6 i'm not sure i'd pull the trigger on him.
Reckon we take a pure midfielder who can kick with our first pick.
We desperately need an explosive mid who can take the handball receive at stoppages and burst forwards. Dylan Shiel mightn’t be everyone’s cup of tea as he isn’t the hardest unit going around but he’d be perfect for us right now.
Yep, outside mid who can run and kick.
#1 priority.
Fritsch is an entirely different player, he isnt a key position player...he is that mid size player who can take a mark but also has good ability on the deck and is a much better kick for goal than most in the league. Think he has performed well in finals and would be a welcome addition to our team and would probably take Jacks spot. He rarely competes with McDonald, Brown, Grundy down forward and plays in a leadup role away from the goal square.
Dylan Shiel???...you got to be kidding😂...another soft ineffective receiver on big money that cant kick straight....see Kelly, see Cogs, see Whitfield......all over rated. We need footballers, not show ponies.....
We don't need another medium forward flying against Charlie and Harry, we've already got SoJ dragging opponents into the marking contests.
Anyone who thought today might be different, must have felt their hearts fall out when they saw that first early marking contest, that something our blokes are doing deliberately!
Fritsch doesn't fly against the other tall forwards, he gives another option which we need and he is a way more reliable kick.I like JSOS but he isn't in the same parish as a forward as Fritsch....
Sos and Fritsch are both 3rd tall types, but different players.
IF we want to utilise SOS better, we need to use/push Harry/Charlie up the ground more and use them as a decoy to drag the 'good' defenders with them.
SOS against 3rd string defender will benefit.
Right now we just bomb it high and long and our blokes track the ball in the air and ultimately spoil eachother.
Deliberately separate them. We will have a beneficial matchup out of it, then exploit it....wherever the matchup is be that Harry, Charlie or Jack!
I'd swap JSOS and McGovern and try and get a win from at least one of them.
My suggestion going into todays game was to drop Harry and play gov forward....bring in Kemp to cover Gov back.
Similar situation, but allows us to play 'smaller' up forward and less predictable.....allowing Kennedy to be a leading marking forward target as well.
Saw the MC try gov forward today, late, not sure it worked, but he may make way for Kemp next week....or marchbank soon enough.
I dont mind any of that but I want to keep Harry in the team and get him impacting, run him in the ruck, warm him up, start him on the bench perhaps, setup with Kennedy as the third tall forward.
We just need a fresh look and catalyst to get some players back into form and then we can move them back to their original positions. Dont gte what is going on with Young either and he seems devoid of confidence and looks shaky in a Plowman type of way. Im all for playing Kemp, didnt think he should have been dropped, we need to build a bigger pool of senior players so we can absorb injuries and have more options. Id be introducing Binns sooner than later too and maybe giving Hollands a rest this week, Binns has played as a small forward at U18 level and its time we got inventive and created some excitement rather than just the same old deckchairs in the same positions.
Yep, Hollands needs a rest.
Ed can have a stint in the 2's
Young is underperforming and should be swapped out for Kemp.
Harry in the ruck would only be relief...and would spend most of the time sitting in the goalsquare or on the bench, so its basically whats happening now. I'd give him a 1 week rest to boost his confidence and bring him back.
Binns, i missed most of the first half today which is when he really dominated, but might be a time to bring him and dow in for hollands and Ed.
Durdin might miss too (leg?), rather than bring in Honey or Fisher, i'd go straight for Martin or Cuningham.
With the talent we had out there today, we should not have lost. However, that is where we are at, at the moment. We don't move the ball well, we go back or sideways instead of giving our forwards a chance. It is easy to see at either level and it is losing football.
Harry Lemmey had 5 possessions today. That isn't good enough. But when you move the ball forward like we do, it doesn't give him much of a chance. If we got the ball out of the middle and moved it quickly forward, who knows what he might do?
Josh Honey: if he has a future, it isn't as a small forward. He isn't kicking goals, he isn't putting enough pressure on to keep the ball in our forward line; he has no profile in the air. Play him in defence and see if he can pick a guy up. If he can't, we've lost nothing.
As for Dow, I'd give him a game simply to change things up. We've been awful out of the middle all year, so he can't do worse. If he can't make a contribution, then we know. But we need to make changes: what we're doing isn't working.
Like to see Cuningham back and down forward as he can kick goals and give us X factor......given up on Martin.
Great in theory. I'd love to see both fit and firing. They offer a different dimension if my memory serves me. Not so likely though, if the past is any indicator.
To quote the 'super' ads (and i hope its accurate)
"Past performances are not a reliable indicator of future performance"
Cunningham? Hasn’t played football in what two years and even before that would flash in for 5 mins then be gone for the rest of the game. Was recruited as Jack Silvagni’s mate and was given plenty of chances. I feel sorry for his injuries no kid deserves his run but to say you would pick him in the ones when he’s not even in the two’s am I missing something? Who next Philp?
It is a hole - even when not windy - if that is ever the case
I know big blokes take time but these two might need a lot of time.
Binns is a type of footballer you rarely see these days - he can kick with either foot. I saw him trapped against the boundary line near the goal and when his path was blocked to kick with his right foot he simply balanced and shot off a quick left foot pass to a player who was then in a position to score.
He is small and it's hard to judge if he is ready for AFL but looks promising for the future.
Thinking about it, he could be an improvement on either Motlop or Durdin considering how they are going at the moment.
Keep him away from the seniors. Don't want whatever malaise effecting him that seems to run through the senior team whenever things get a bit hard.
