Title: Jim Park Voting 2023 AFL Rd 19 Carlton vs West Coast
Post by: crashlander on July 21, 2023, 09:00:12 pm
Voting is as usual: you have 15 votes to award pretty much as you will, with the following provisos:
[1] 15 votes in total, no more, no less.
[2] No more than 10 votes for any one player (even Sam Walsh or Patrick Cripps)
[3] Three players at least must get a mention.
[4] A grade for the game, A+ (what I want to see) to F-.

I'll get the voting up to date tomorrow, with luck.

Team B+ Was going to give a 3rd straight A, but the 2nd half was average and I understand that would've been due to lack of rotations but I'm a hard taskmaster :)

AFL Rd 19:   Carlton vs West Coast
While I was disappointed in our second half, we had nothing on the bench and a lot of talent in the stands. The first half, however, was as dynamic as you could wish for.
Team:   A

Votes:
[2.5]   Charlie Curnow
[1.5]   George Hewett
[1.5]   Sam Walsh
[1.5]   Sam Docherty
[1.5]   Adam Saad
[1.5]   Nic Newman
[1]   Tom de Koning
[1]   Brodie Kemp
[1]   Jacob Weitering
[0.5]   Blake Acres
[0.5]   Oliver Hollands
[0.5]   David Cuningham
[0.5]   Paddy Dow

Explanations:
[2.5]   Charlie Curnow:   10 goals from 13 scoring shots and numbers a mid would be happy with, Charlie dominated the game from the start. And it could well have been more.
[1.5]   George Hewett:   His best game for the year. He provided the midfield grunt while keeping his opponent on a starvation diet.
[1.5]   Sam Walsh:      So far BOG when he went off injured that it is disappointing just to think of it. His hard running, his will to get the ball and his excellent disposal were just a few aspects of a 40+ possession game cut short.
[1.5]   Sam Docherty:   Brilliant game from Doc, Hard at it, e really wanted the pill and put his body on the line.
[1.5]   Adam Saad:      He’d have got 5 votes in earlier game this year with this effort. He was a significant in so many ways.
[1.5]   Nic Newman:      Another brilliant game from Nic. He got possessions like a mid from the BP and had a huge number of scores involvements.
[1]   Tom de Koning:   Not dominant, but very solid.
[1]   Brodie Kemp:      A very solid game in defence.
[1]   Jacob Weitering:   Brilliant early and dominated his position.
[0.5]   Blake Acres:      If not for his 3 on the fulls, Acres would have got more votes. When the game needed to be won, he was in the thick of it.
[0.5]   Oliver Hollands:   A very solid return.
[0.5]   David Cuningham:   Not as much as I would like, but the touches he had were crucial.
[0.5]   Paddy Dow:      A very solid midfielder’s game. Still plenty to work on, but some nice signs.

Honourable Mentions:
Lachie Fogarty:      Probably not enough possessions, but his pressure and hard work have been outstanding since his return.
Alex Cincotta:         Pounded into the ground and cam back on. Courage, skill and a great defensive game.
Jack Silvagni:         Continued on from last week until he got injured. His taking the ball from the ruck in the forward line and goaling was a highlight.
Matthew Cottrell:      Another solid afternoon from Matthew.
Jesse Motlop:         While he was on, he was electric.
