Not expecting a win, but I wasn't expecting one last week.
The game is at 15:00 at Arden St on Sunday.
This week's lineup:
Backs: Jess Dal Pos Gab Pound
Half-backs: Maddy Hendrie Harriet Cordner Vaomua Laloifi
Centreline: Marianna Anthony Abbie McKay Amelia Velardo
Half-forwards: Mimi Hill Jess Good Gen Lawson-Tavan
Forwards: Mia Austin Darcy Vescio
Followers: Breann Moody Keeley Skepper Brooke Vickers
Interchange: Keeley Sherar Lily Goss Annie Lee Phoebe McWilliams Erone Fitzpatrick
Gabby Pound is a welcome return.
Gold Coast obliterating West Coast this week shows how well the girls played last week to steal a win.
I think Kangas are a step above the Suns, or at least should be with the talent they have, so we will be trying to catch lightning in a bottle twice IMO.
I predict a 4+ goal loss.
Not sold on this new AFLW coach, for an AFLW level team I've never seen so many players turning their backs on the footy, we wouldn't even tolerate that at U14s.
Well that was pretty awful.
But the coach is happy. ;)
Seeing there is nothing much happening in the footy...
It's probably just sexist old me, but Kelli Underwood seems much more relaxed and comfortable calling the women's game... not as contrived.
Well things are happening now and it's not good. 19-0 their way.
Scoreless first half from the Blues. :(
Strangely they're not too far out of it that they can't turn it around.
Scoreless 3q 🙄
Kangas 5. 4 and moving like a freight train.
Bigger, stronger, faster, hungrier.. the end
What a story. Ex-Blue doubles Carlton score thus far with the Blues only score coming from new Irish recruit.
Congratulations to Fitzpatrick 👏🏼
Sadly, we're not in the same league. The aflw is fast becoming a 2 level system. Such are the highs and lows of the club.
On a positive note. The effort is there.
Dark day for the Blues.
Underwoods voice just hurts my ears. Its not sexist of me because there are plenty of other female commentators/special comments that don't have the same effect. I've got a female friend who thinks the same.
In relation to her calling of our games.....she didn't seem to know our players half as well as the kangas players. Which i can understand to the casual viewer, but not from a professional commentator.
As for the result?
Get used to it.
Last week was unexpected.
This week was not.
North have got a very powerful team.
I think they’ll smash most teams and we should be more competitive against most.
Bad luck Erone’s parents didn’t get to see her first goal. I’m continually amazed at how quickly the Irish men and women pick up the skills of the game.
It helps when you can tackle players who aren't in possession.
I don't get what the AFL is trying to do with the AFLW, they are making it even more congested by allowing players to be scragged and dumped even more than the men's game. Because the girls do not recover as quickly from the physical contact it just makes the game slow and congested, if anything it should be officiated the exact opposite more like Gaelic footy.
Also, I not sure at all the AFLW needs so much heavy contact, especially given the propensity for the girls to do ACL's and other similar injuries.
I suppose there are elements of this that are player / participant driven and not just administrative.
Nope
Just wake me up when they come good. 😉
I think that's the key. The players play the way they want to and have always played since juniors. The AFLW rules would have to be radically different for AFLW to become bruise free and I don't think that anyone wants that.
North's ball movement and ability to hit targets was good, but it helps if you have a huge size advantage. I liked the idea of trying Moody as a forward but we missed her height around the ground.
