Title: VFL 2024 Rd 21 Carlton vs Richmond at Carlton
Post by: crashlander on August 13, 2024, 10:10:22 pm
The 2's play their last game for the year against Richmond on Sunday at 11:05 at Carlton.
We may have very few AFL listed players available, possibly only Akuei and Monahan, especially if some of our half0fit guys don't come up.
There will be a minimum of 6 changes to the senior line-up, maybe more.

Marchbank won't be available: he's still struggling with concussion. I'd say he's played his last game.

Not sure how many listed guys Richmond will have, but they beat us last time with very few.

On any way of looking at this it will be difficult.  The Tigers have 11-13 on the injury list themselves, but that 4 to 6 extra AFL-listed players make a world of difference in that they will be the comparatively class players out there and something like 6-8 "class" players to 2-3.  Obviously can be different if the quality of top-ups is much stronger on our side but I don't expect that to be the case.

I reckon our vfl team will fare better without the afl guys.

Our afl types are generally kids and now they can put their better players in the main roles.

I think you’re right Crash.

If so, it’s a sad end to a career that promised so much.  Marchy must be one of the most resilient characters going around to have stuck it out this far.

Probably 2 listed players - Mirkov and Monahan. The rest are headed west.

I dont understand why they didn't just take all the AFL listed players to the West.

the trip west then back east can be quite taxing.  Mirkov and Monahan both need game time as they're learning the nuances.

Agree... however, the back end of the season has been much better with 2 really impressive wins in the past month.

I'm assuming Mirkov will be Captain and Monahan will be Vice Captain.

Our line-up:

CARLTON
B: M. Lewis (58), D. Akuei (41), L. Young (55)
HB: B. Wilson (35), H. Ramshaw (51), R. Monahan (34)
C: A. Stevens (64), K. Ferronato (63), D. Hogg (70)
HF: J. Lefroy (79), L. Nelson (57), W. White (77)
F: N. Cahill (54), H. Lemmey (31), L. McMahon (52)
R: A. Mirkov (45), P. Dozzi (53), Z. Maher (50)
INT: T. Travaglia (75)8, M. Rudd (73), C. Verrell (71), H. Nosiara (69), H. Gill (62)
EMG: O. Badr (72), W. Hayes (59), B. Lambert (80), N. Barnes (75), L. Swaney (76), T. Sruk (61), O. Poole (70)

IN: K. Ferronato, D. Hogg, M. Rudd, C. Verrell
OUT: J. Binns, C. Durdin, C. Lord, A. Moir (AFL)
NEW: Michael Rudd, 19, 193cm, St Mary’s; Callum Verrell, 20, 188cm, Rowville

Michael Rudd was signed before the season started and will be playing his 1st VFL game for us. Was highly rated of those who missed being drafted.
Tyson Sruk is the same: signed last November, but could play for the 1st time.
I'm hoping Hayes is available. He is a strong, mature body who knows what he is doing.
Not sure Wilson and Lemmey will be back from Perth.
Lachie Swaney is one of our VC's but this could be his first game for the season. He's been injured a fair bit and has been an assistant coach for the AFLW girls.

Pleasantly surprised by the effort put in by our patchwork VFL side. Only went down by 9pts. Could have snatched it in the end... 2.6 in the final qtr to 2.1. Great effort all things considered.

Thoughts of sending Mirkov packing at seasons end should be reconsidered, his progress since returning from heart troubles has been excellent. Full preseason... who knows what he might become.

Hayes really dominant.

Brave Effort...I reckon the VFL non listed players probably give more as a collective in terms of effort than when we have more AFL players in the team who dont go as hard.
re: Mirkov....probably one of our best and looks more accomplished with the ball, but Id want to see him vs some better opposition than the kid ex basketballer Hayes-Brown from the Perth Wildcats who has only played this season of football as a Cat B rookie and is even more of a newbie to the game than Mirkov.
Hayes was good but his disposal wasnt great.....Lewis impressed me down back and not for the first time.

The twos finished the well pretty well considering - need to sign Hayes up and offer him the captaincy.

As expected. 2 listed players, Mirkov and Monahan. Mirkov had 17 disposals, which could be his career best. He usually doesn't do much with them, but ... I will watch the replay with interest.
Monahan had 3 possessions and isn't setting the world on fire. :( Still, he is a baby. Hopefully, he will be much better next year.

Will Hayes: 39 possessions, 10 tackles, 2 goals - the question is, why isn't he on a list? He's good enough. Granted that his disposal isn't great, but neither is Binns'. Doesn't look like he started in the square either.

21 possessions to Trevaglia. The kid has talent.
