4 players moved on today: Taylor Ortlepp, Lulu Beatty, Jade Halfpenny and Gen Lawson-Tavan.
Of those, Gen played a fair bit: 18 games in 2 seasons.
I would've moved on ortlepp last year.
However, i thought she finally showed something this year and offered a hard edge.
Beauty came with great wraps and was an early ish pick. Never delivered.
Halfpenny was a top up player who was always going to be first to go.
Lawson taven is similar to ortlepp. Thought she did well this year after nothing last year year.
Add in dal pos retiring and thats 5. Which is 1/6th of your list.
We've just picked up 2 Irish lasses: Síofra O’Connell and Aisling Reidy, both from County Clare. Both are 'rookies' for 2025.
The Irish girls seem to pick up the game very quickly. We missed Erone Fitzpatrick's attack on the footy and opportunism this season but Dayna Finn really built on her solid first season. Siofra and Aisling both look strong and fast and could have a real impact if they adapt to footy as well as Erone and Dayna did.
With the trade period over, we were very quiet this year. Last year we were involved with a lot of potential trades and picked up a couple, this year, we've done a single trade: Tara Bohanna in.
We've delisted:
Jess Dal Pos (retired), Marianna Anthony (delisted), Tahlia Read (delisted), Lulu Beatty (delisted), Jade Halfpenny (delisted), Genevieve Lawson-Tavan (delisted), Taylor Ortlepp (delisted).
Of those, Gen Lawson-Tavan played a fair bit for us in recent times, but she was filling a spot: we had few defenders, especially tall ones, this season. Cordner stepped up massively there, playing probably her best ever footy.
We may make more changes before the Draft: Amelia Velardo was in discussions for a failed trade with Sydney, for example.
At the moment we have picks: 5, 23, 45, 77, 95, 113 and 131. We will be picking up Sophie McKay, the only question is what the price will be. Someone is bound to bid for her.
The demise of Tayla Harris is quite sad, it should be documented and distributed as a warning and learning tool for all kids wanting a professional sporting career. "How not to let fame and fortune burn your sporting career!"
Could have offered her a chance to redeem herself, she stills owes the CFC women's group plenty IMO.
We traded picks 56 and 59 to Richmond for pick 45. That seems to be a pretty good deal to me.
I suspect that we may have to give up 23 for Sophie, but that could effectively give us two top ten draftees. Hopefully, we won't have to use pick 5.
It would be nice if things fell our way, as they did with the AFL draft.
Quality player albeit a bit 1-dimensional, but having heard a few insiders talk about her, I'd say you don't cut out a cancer just to invite it back in.
Got that first pick in before having to bid which was great. Pity Zippy Fish didn't last one more pick, but am excited by the potential of Poppy Scholz even though most analysts had her a bit later. Sophie should be a bargain and Lou Lou Field seems a quality footballer and leader who will probably be a Gab Pound replacement down the track.
The big difference with this year’s list management is that we haven’t shed any players of note. We’re usually complaining about losing gun players to expansion teams or giving them up to the top tier clubs.
I don’t think that we’ll miss any of the girls who have departed and we have added some much needed talent to the list … and we should get Ronnie Fitzpatrick back after her ACL.
Looking forward to a better season in 2025 🤞
F-that, good riddance to the DH.
Ive been told the whole club was happy to see the back of her. Utterly full of herself.
Certainly she put herself above the club and team success. Unfortunately, she left a huge hole in our forward line that we're still dealing with. And with Melbourne having already traded out their 1st round pick, we were always getting not much in return.
I had high hopes for her, but the recent attempt to get to a 4th club basically says it all:
not a team player!
Celine Moody has retired from AFL footy.
Not sure we ever saw the best of her, and she was always being compared to her sister which not many can compete with.
Frees up another spot on our list
I don't think that Celine had the same love for footy as Breann and wasn't really in the same ballpark in terms of ability and application. I couldn't really see how we could fit her, Breann, Jess Good and Tara Bohanna into the same lineup.
Kerryn Peterson will be missing the 2025 season; she is expecting her 1st child. Good luck to her and her hubbie.
