Title: VFL 2025 Rd 5 Carlton vs Geelong at Carlton
Post by: crashlander on April 20, 2025, 11:00:50 am
This one is on Sunday at 11:05 at Ikon, a home game for a change.
Geelong are 3rd, without a loss, while we are 18th, without a win. :(
That said, we've been competitive for all but the Southport game, and they're on top and deserve to be.

Maybe we'll see Duffy this week: he's been going through a 'mini-pre-season', apparently, to prepare him for the game.

Well, we'll have Pitto playing for a 2nd week, which will help. Now, if we can finish a team off ...
Voss has conformed that Doc will be in the 2's this week. That means we might have a couple of experienced players for a change. H will be in the 1's.

I thought that Hayes was named as an emergency last week before playing what I thought was a BoG performance.  Perhaps his availability won’t be known until the last minute.

Our diminishing injury list is reflected in the number of AFL listed players who will run out for us.

At least one if Young or Cowan will be held over as an onsite emergency for the firsts. No doubt whoever pulls out will cause concern that Weitering is out of the main team, but it won't necessarily  be so, just normal practice .

Pretty even game (on the scoreboard) so far.
All locked up at 21 each at quarter time.
We're ahead in  most of the stats and O'Keefe and Pittonet are giving us good service.

Pittonet throwing his weight around a bit which led to a really good goal to McMahon on one occasion.

Binns going pretty well today.
The commentators are getting into Lemmey bout having no impact so far.
I'm not sure he's been on the ground that much.
He may have even been the sub replacing one of our guys who went off with a heavy knock.
With Pittonet, O'Keefe and McMahon all active there's probably enough talls down forward.

We're out to an 18 point lead.

Dominating atm.
Superb goal from the 50. Moir on his left.

Half-Time
Carlton 6-5-41
Geelong 5-6-36

Binns (15),  Ben Camporeale (14) leading the disposals.
O'Keefe and Pittonet doing well in the ruck. Hitouts our way (23-13)

Not a bad game.

Should have been further in front at half time after letting the Pussycats in for a couple of late goals. 5pts up. According to the commentators something of a swirly wind making for some field errors and pretty ordinary shots on goal.

Campo B, and Moir combine for a nice goal. :D

Ben's 'iffy' disposal might be all that keeps him from getting a senior game in the near future.

Docherty just quietly going about his business. Disposal is much better than we've seen at senior level this year.

...and just when you give him a rap,  a bad turnover in the middle.

Ben is a hand pass first player, been impressed with his work rate and ability to contest with bigger players.
His kicking and leg speed may be an issue at senior level but I'd be happy to see him get a game or two ahead of some other players...

O'Farrell looked to have hurt himself and went forward.
He kicked a goal to give us the lead. :D

Docherty's been big the last few minutes.

Blues win 88-84
Depending on this afternoons results no-one really stood out for promotion and any promotions (knowing the way the selectors work) would probably come from some of the more established
group....Docherty, Pitto or Boyd, who were all good.

Ben Camporeale may be ready for a taste.
Thought O'Keefe had a fair game and could have easily finished with 3-4 goals.
Bit disappointed with Lemmey today.
Binns had a good first half.

The rest are still works in progress.
O' Farrell kicked the winning goal, but not a lot else.
Moir kicked a couple and is the type of player who flashes in for cameos, but needs to find consistency and fitness.
Wilson...at the moment I don't think he'll see any senior football this year, and that may see him off the list.

I've given up with selections though. ::)
The best kick on our list of dubious disposers can't get a game.
Evans led our tackle count with 8...that will probably get him a spot next week. :D

Well deserved win. Dominated much of play only to be let down by disposal. Cats on the other hand made good with their opportunities with a hand up from their glow-worm friend (#17).

Some good signs from our developing talls, Campo x 2, Binns, Moir in flashes.
Hoping Wilson learned a lesson or two from Doc.

Nice summary, Principal Lods. Same page here re Doc, Pitto and Boydy probably enhancing any call-up chance. Ben C... close.

Good win... finally.

Statistically:
Doc had the ball more than anyone else on the ground: 28 disposals, 8 clearances, 4 tackles. He needed to stand up and he did. I tell you how good those possessions were after I've watched the replay.

Ben Camporeale: 23 possessions, 6 tackles and 3 clearances. Promising. 15 of those were handballs.

Heath Ramshaw: 19 possessions, 6 clearances and 4 tackles. Not bad at all.
Liam McMahon: 3 goals 3 from 10 possessions: he doesn't get a lot of ball, but he scores more than any of our others at this level.
Harry Lemmey: 4 possessions, 1 goal 1. Not a big game. Hopefully, he can do more next week.

Rob Monahan: 11 possessions - I think it is the first time he's had more than 10. I don't see him making it at the moment, but he have to say his trajectory is up.

Marc Pittonet: 12 possessions, 1 goal, 33 taps. 6 tackles and 5 clearances. That is a decent day out.
Hudson O'Keefe: 13 disposals, 2 goals 1, 5 marks, 4 tackles, 16 taps and 5 clearances. Not bad either.
Hudson has a fair way to go, but he is also headed in the right direction.
We really towelled them up in the ruck.

How did McCartin go? He didn't get much ball: 9 possessions and 4 marks.

Rob had his 11 before half time: he looked pretty good, solid and quick.
