Ready for tomorrow: 19:40 at the SCG. It hasn't been a happy hunting ground for some times.
Right. I'd better get used to this. With us having so many Thursday nights in the future, there will be a lot of games I won't be able to get to. :( :'( I just can't get there: I only finish tutoring at 19:20 (at best).
Boyd listed as a sub.
He's been going well enough in the 2's, but I was a bit surprised he didn't break his way into the team earlier. He has pace, which we lack, and he can do a decent defensive job.
Pitto got the opening tap.
Carroll, Cerra, Durdin and White on the bench.
Patrick Cripps!
We haven't won a clearance yet.
Why does Harry lead to that side?
We want to keep the ball away from Warner.
H! 2 marks, for 1 goal.
Not a high scoring game.
Patrick Cripps: 2 goals from 6 possessions and 2 tackles.
H playing well, as is Lord of Ollie Hollands.
Now Charlie has a goal!
2 goals from 3 kicks. Not a bad q1 return from our big midfield beast.
Lewis Young with the best handball of his career to Hewett. Sets up Charlie for his 300th career goal.
Thats going to be on a few highlight reels throughout the year.
Not what we wanted in red time. Can't let goals through so near the siren.
We played about as well as we have all year.
The swans were pretty poor.
Not a good sign.
Dominating but not on the scoreboard.
Swans far more efficient.
Pitto doing well.
Quarter time and we're ahead by a goal.
Carlton 4 - 2 - 26
Sydney 3 - 2 - 20
The top 4 possession getters are Swans, but:
H has 7 possessions, 4 marks and 3 clearances!
Cooper Lord had 7 possession, 6 in the first 15 minutes.
Pitto has 5 possessions; all clearances!
We've had more tackles, including 4 in our forward 50 (Sydney have none).
Cripps very proppy on his ankle. Rest him now before we break him.
Hope it isn't serious, as he's been good.
Goal to Durdin!
Smalls tackling is excellent.
Seems to be testing it out and hoping on it on the boundary. Ready to come back on.
We'll see how good it is once he cools down tomorrow.
Jack Silvagni getting a quad looked at now.
How many effing umpires do we have and they still screw it up
Worst decision ever.
Need a replay/review system to stop that.
Injuries ... We can't help but get them.
Disgraceful
Few easy goals tonight.
Scores level. :(
We don't make enough of our opportunities.
Our mids are well down compared to theirs.
How can the boundary umpire see the ball go out on the full if it didn't.
H again! He's been missing this quarter, until now.
Don't mind a red time goal. H 👏🏼
Worst decision of the year, OOF !
Pushing in the back in marking contests and just shoving in the ruck are an absolute blight on the game.
He'll be out bush next week for a few weeks i reckon.
We're in front by 7 points, which is better than the alternative.
Carlton 6 - 4 - 40
Sydney 5 - 3 - 33
We're being thrashed in the clearances: 15 to 24. Of those, our rucks have most of them. We really need to improve in this area.
Cerra has 15 possessions, our top.
Lord, Hewett & Cripps all have 13 possessions.
Pitto is being thrashed in the ruck: he has half the number of taps that Grundy has.
Tough first up gig for Pittonet in Grundy. Not the type of player he plays well against.
Both have 5 clearances thus far.
I don't think either are really influencing the game a whole lot.
They are flicking it around with their hands and it's troubling us, we are being forced to kick. We need to start using HB more to get it into space. Also need to use it better I50.
Last night was dewy and the kicks were longer to limit handball. We are a handball heavy type team but we should be kicking longer and aiming for grass near Evans and durdin. Time to get these boys earning their dollars.
I think Pitto has been frustrated by a couple of rubbish decisions that went against him and has gone into his shell a bit
By the sounds of things, there have been more than few rubbish decisions. How am I not surprised!
The umpiring has been ordinary. Heeney & Co get away with murder, darling of the umpires. How can just throw the ball 30 metres over your head in a handball motion and it's ok?
Silvagni out is a huge loss
As opposed to last week, lots of passenger this week.
We really need to get on top of Heeney and Sheldrick.
Supposedly, its a groin.
Now he has a broken hand.
He got hit in the head which may result in a suspension
This was after getting cleaned up in a marking contest earlier
He got a thigh strapped up late in the 2nd
....but the groin was the final straw.
I'm sure we'll try and play him next week despite all of this.
Rest him next week even if he passes every test we give him.
I know most of these are holding the ball, but the ball being knocked out in the tackle has been play in all season and in the wet they've clamped down on it. Does that strike anyone else as a but odd?
Nothing about holding the ball decisions make sense to me.......or anyone else really.
Charlie Curnow! Just what we needed!
Didn't need Warner. :(
Suffice to say, Heeney and Warner will win them this game.
We may be in front but they want the footy more.
Charlie needed to kick that one. :(
So did Frankie. :(
Keystone cops we are tonight.
I never want to see Evans wear a Carlton jumper ever again.
I know he can tackle, but can he kick?
Just awful, in the lead but just awful.
Agree. He's a complete spud
Feckin Heeney again. Paid a mark that wasn't. Umpires love child
Commentators on Fox were spot on just then, the only two who will win for the Swans is Heeney and Warner so they need to be nullified.
If it wasnt a mark it was a chopping of the arms free.
Need to be hard tagged. Will the MC have the brains to do it?
That ground is an absolute disgrace.
Has been a problem since a concert there earlier in the year
Rain and a VFL game before the main match.
::)
3/4 time and we're 5 points in front. That quarter each side kicked only 1 goal.
Carlton 7 - 6 - 48
Sydney 6 - 7 - 43
Cerra has come good since about half way through the 2nd quarter. He is up to 25 possessions.
After that ...
We need to get more out of our mids and rucks. We're still well behind in clearances.
H started like a train, but has stopped since.
Walsh has only 13 possessions.
Binns has 11. :(
We have a lot of guys who can do better.
No it wasn't.. Have another look.
hopeless. and motlop is not any better. plays one decent game every 10.
never seen a small forward make it thats slow and he is very slow
All of our small forwards need a lift.
And losing Jack didn't help us either, even if he did only have 5 possessions until then.
We are playing pretty average. We are still winning at a ground we can't win at.
TDK out was not a great start.
Losing Jack made it worse.
Cripps on a dodgy ankle is far from ideal.
We need to find someone who can lift and win us the game. The above 3 can be catalysts that won't do it for us this time.
Who will stand up?
Oh well :(
How do you pay a hold against the forward there. screw me dead. This is so crap.
I don't care how many tackles evans supposedly can get, his kicking is not AFL standard.
We need to send our boys to acting class.
Swans swing a shot on goal for a nice dive.
Boyd gets his head knocked off and nothing.
Midfield are getting smashed now
Pathetic. Swans peppering
Need to be a bit more unsociable.
Don't have enough rotations, especially with Cripps struggling.
Too many talls and small forwards.
Need to swing Motlop into the midfield
We are getting absolutely smashed, but thankfully, they can't find the big ones. Its only 12 points.
.....yet with that deliberate from the umps.....what hope do we have!
These deliberate calls are woeful
Too many passengers.
Binns.....he still playing?
Can't remember the last time i've seen him....and certainly can't remember anything hes done all game.
That kick by Boyd is why people talk about his kicking.....yet some people 'don't see it'.
Not many people in Navy blue can do that
Goal to charlie as a result.
1 goal game
18 seconds later. 2 goal game.
Season over save some sort of miracle
Extremely disappointing to be such a poor performer for decades
Nothing dramatic at all. The results tell the story unfortunately
4 pts gone begging.
No 5 puts the nail in the coffin
Forget binns, last i saw him he was chasing a ruckman. White, motlop, durdin, Evans, carroll.
Young was good.
Too many didn't do enough.
We fell apart after silvagni went off.
Season over. Our stars aren't good enough and are role players are woeful. Blow it up.
Our next 4 weeks we play against
8th
9th
17th
18th
All very winnable, even if we lose 1 of them, we will still end up at 7-7 at round 14, which is far from season over.
Same old story. Not enough quality in the team.
A lot of bumbling, fumbling almost players.
Season over.
Not happy. Not enough by too many. When we should have stepped up, we didn't. What a terrible way to honour Robert Walls.
Led for 3 quarters and then run out of juice. Frustrating.
They have just beat us up like the Crows did.
We're a nice team.
Allowing Heeney and Warner to just run around by themselves ... it is suicide at the SCG! Very poor.
Yep. But our kicking was woeful as was our decision making.
How many last qtrs where we have led and lost it this year.
Promise everything, deliver nothing!
Clearly, nobody.
5.5 to 2.2 in the last....and one was after the siren
Pittonet and Cripps dominated early.
Pitt ran out of gas , Cripps hurt his ankle.
Grundy, Heeney and Warner took over.
Weak club with alot of spuds.
Our pressure was 200+ for three qtrs then dropped to 175 in the last. Our game fell away with it.
I really needed us to win tonight. Sydney have ruined my footy tipping all year and I thought maybe we'd make some ground back. Not meant to be.
Exactly. Can’t trust this lot. Too many fade-outs.
Listening to the presser, Vossy was pissed off at straying away from designated roles in the last qtr.
Thought we started to struggle just before half time and they had control of play especially the clearances even though we had our noses in front on the scoreboard.
I'm not sure the coach is picking momentum swings and when the opposition stars are starting to heat up.
