We've got a lot of AFL listed players named, but at least 1, maybe 2 won't play.
And we will still be underdogs, as Essendon have won more games than we have.
O'Keefe out, replacing H. At least one other won't be playing.
Just looking at the lineup....
Is that the most 'real' Carlton Reserves side we've seen with so many listed players.
Hayes and Phipps-Parsons are playing.
Corey Durdin not playing.
We've started slowly, and McMahon has kicked a goal :( . Make that 2. :(
We're getting possessions, but ...
We have the top 5 possessions getters on the ground, with Lewis Young having 8!
Goal to Ben Camporeale.
Flynn Young 4 possessions and 3 marks.
We've got 2 goals 5 behinds. Ron Monahan, 2 points.
Then come Lemmey!
1/4 Time and we're down by 2 points:
Carlton 3 - 5 - 23
Drug Cheats 4 - 1 - 25
Bad kicking is bad football!
Lewis Young had 8 possessions in the first 16 minutes and hasn't touched it since.
Ramshaw, Ben C, Phillips and Binns have 7 each.
Pitto: getting taps, but not getting the ball: 10 taps and 1 possession. Hayes (3), Moir (2) and Charleson (2) also quiet.
Bit of a scrappy game in the slippery conditions, surprised the bombers ruckman Visentini isnt playing in the seniors given their injury woes.
Not getting the taps: Carlton 12: Drug Cheats: 3. Clearances: Carlton 11; Drug Cheats 7.
Not a lot happening. We're dominating possession and getting the ball into our front 50, but not converting. Sounds familiar?
One point scored ( to them) in over 12 minutes.
Hogg and Ben C will 12 possessions.
Harry Lemmey: 1 point; our first score for the quarter, 15 minutes in.
Visento now getting his hand to the ball. Pitto always starts well and tires.
Carlton 3 - 7 - 25
Kicking ourselves out of the game.
Uninspiring game with lots of uninspiring performances.
Lewis Young, at least, looks as though he knows what he is doing.
What an ordinary quarter!
Half time:
Carlton 3 - 7 - 25
Drug Cheats 5 - 3 - 33
Ben C has 16 possessions and 7 clearances, Darcy Hogg has 14, Billy Wilson has 12.
Pitto now had 11 possessions, 10 that quarter, although the Essendon rucks got more taps.
We're ahead everywhere except on the scoreboard. It does sound familiar. :( :(
Binns had 7 possessions in the 1st quarter, 2 in that one.
Hayes now has 8, but is still very quiet compared to normal. :(
A lot of Drug Cheats have had very little ball, but they kick straight and we don't.
This has turned into an awful scrap.
Not a lot to get excited about at all....
@RiverRat You can understand why I don't give much credit to players for VFL performances, it's a bit sad what VFL has become, which is why I go and watch the VAFA now instead.
What's more, the media would be better off broadcasting some VAFA games, it would cost them a fraction of what they pay now and it would be a better spectacle.
Young had 8 possessions in the first 16 minutes and has had 2 since. Still, that is a lot better than a number of others I could name.
Flynn Young has 8 possessions, but no score as yet.
Rob Monahan has 5 possessions and 2 points.
Flynn Young is very lightly built and given its a stoppage game its not his style of game and he has been pushed aside fairly easily.
Plus playing with our VFL team would be a lot different to playing with the well drilled Werribee outfit and you can see he is a stylish finisher but there hasnt been a lot of opportunity for him to get on his own and display his skills.
Darcy Hogg has been a good player and Ben Campo has got a bit of ball but hasnt been able to do much with it thanks to the conditions. Bomber Fullback Hoare is a player I would look at if I wanted a KP defender, takes a good mark and is reliable by foot.
Philips has done ok down back for us and has had his hands full with McMahon and new kid May but has held up well.
Lewis Young is displaying why he isnt in the seniors with some low intensity contesting and while he picked up some easy kicks early he plays like he doesnt want to get hurt.
We have a lot of listed players in this game who I would be moving on at seasons end who are just not good enough.
Too many have a marking time disinterested look about them.
For me that is a sign of blokes playing footy for the money and not because they love the game, we probably deserve to have them because they fit right in with the old Carlton mindset. Send a hat around the boundary line for them and I bet they lift! ;)
:( I really hope our guys can lift; it isn't that we're not finding the ball.
Is Luke Nelson injured? He's had only 1 possession, which is unlike him.
The Drug Cheats have 7 of 9 lowest possession getters on the ground.
Are we kicking with the tide this quarter?
Flynn Young, come on down! 1 goal 1 this quarter so far!
Carlton 4 - 9 - 33
:(
And then Lemmey kicks his 2nd!
Id be playing him in the seniors next week, got away from his man for a nice goal and looks the part when the game is flowing and he can get some space.
Out to a 2 goal lead: we've kicked 3 this quarter!
Really dominating the stats, but can we actually kick enough goals?
Essendon mids getting more ball, but Ben C has 21 and 9 clearances!
Probably not far off a game.
Only 5 points the difference now. :(
That was awful umpiring, the umpire called play on three players wrestled for it, two Carlton players get dragged to ground by a 4th man into the contest and the umpire pays holding the ball. I can see why those umpires are in VFL as well! ;D
Behind again. McMahon kicks his 3rd. :(
McMahon's goal was a consequence of lacklustre pressure applied through the midfield, our little blokes refused to approach the CheatsFC ruck and pressure his disposal leaving him space and time to dispose efficiently.
Pressure when we don't have the ball was / is a feature when we were winning, and in a winning mindset, it's absence then is a portent to a loss.
3/4 Time and we're behind.
Carlton 6 - 9 - 45
Drug Cheats 7 - 6 - 42
Their mids lifted about half way through that quarter.
We now have only of the top 5 possession getters.
Ben Camporeale: 22 possessions, 9 clearances, 4 tackles, 1 goal.
We really need a lift from some of our down players.
Vickery; 7 possessions,
Duffy: 4 possessions :(
Monahan: 7 possessions.
Ramshaw: 9 possessions - very quiet from Heath. Needs a big last quarter.
We are still dominating the stats, but not scoring enough. Our game style? Or the talent?
Moir, at last!
Rob Monahan: his 2nd ever goal!
Darcy Hogg!
Evans kicks his 2nd!
Score?
How has Logan played?
Blues by 17, 20 minutes in.
Taj Logan: 9 possessions.
Moir hasn't had a bad game.
He's been more involved and looks classy at times.
Take the W. Well played lads.
McMahon leaving has thrown the focus on Lemmey up forward....and he presented well.
2 goals 2 behinds-18 disposals and 9 marks.
Blues defeat Drug Cheats!
A very scorelss last ten minutes, but a win is a win is a win!
Carlton: 10 - 12 - 72
Drug Cheats: 8 - 6 - 54
We had 8 more scoring shots, and that is what the stats suggest, as wqe won all of the important stats.
Ben Camporeale: 30 possessions, 12 clearances, 5 tackles, 1 goal.
Ethan Phillips: 20 possessions, 10 marks.
Lucas Camporeale: 20 possessions, 2 clearances.
Marc Pittonet: 17 possessions, 40 taps, 8 clearances.
Ours was a much more even performance. Lots of Drug Cheats did very little. 5 of the bottom 7, and 8 of the bottom 11 possession getters were Drug Cheats. They had 4 of the top 5, but most of them had quiet last quarters.
O'Farrell was solid and can be called up if (or when) JSOS or McGov get injured again.
Boyd was his usual combative and competitive self.
Pitto was Pitto.
Lemmey getting 9 marks and 18 possessions was a big plus for us.
Frankie Evans with 19 and 2 goals played one of his better games. Does he like it wet and miserable?
Will Hayes really down: 14 possessions. As was Heath Ramshaw, who had 16. Still, both were serviceable when it was needed, Ramshaw's last quarter was his best.
Moir: 16 possessions and 11 handballs.
Binns: 16 possessions - not his usual game.
O'Farrell had 8 marks in defence. Bodes well.
Vickery and Charleson were also down today. Vickery had 10 possessions, while Charleson had 7. Still, their opponents did nothing.
The boys did very well in difficult conditions today and that was a good win in the end.
I thought that our talls were particularly solid and really put in when the game was on the line. O'Farrell reads the game well and makes good decisions and I think that he's going to be a ripper. Lemmey probably should have kicked another couple of goals but it was a good all round performance from him.
That was one of Moir's better games; nothing too flashy, just old-fashioned wet weather footy that created opportunities for his teammates.
Looking at the replay, our ball handling in the first quarter was awful. It led directly to Essendon goals. Once we sorted those problems, the Drug Cheat's key forwards were invisible. But 4 dropped chest marks in the defensive 50 was inexcusable.
