Title: VFL 2025 Rd 13 Carlton vs North Melbourne
Post by: crashlander on June 19, 2025, 08:48:00 pm
Saturday 21st June at 16:05 at Carlton.

At least our emergencies will probably play.

Cowan should be back. Pittonet is in the seniors, and HOK is out with a hamstring, so the ruck will be interesting. Probably Flynn Riley, with Lewis Young as support. Maybe we'll get Zac Harding? He's been important as an over-ager in the U18 comp.

1 point down at Quarter time.
We've had a lot of the ball.

Well you would think our blokes should be motivated, if you ever thought you were chance at an AFL gig it must be today!

If Lemmey can't move skinny VFL opponents off the ball he's miles off any AFL gig, on the field his one on one efforts make Young look like Conan the Barbarian.

Moir and Flynn Young possible inclusions for Port, both kicking goals and Moir looking a bit more interested than usual.

On what ive seen a few are putting their hand up.

Cowan is showing he's a class above from what ive seen.

Young putting a good account of himself.

Ben Camporeale also putting his hand up, and should have a look next week.   Corey durdin..  keep playing him in the ones but quietly see if anyone will trade for him because he's at that point where it's time to pi55 or get off the pot.

Up by 4 pts at 3/4 time in an entertaining game. As 3 Leos mentioned, Cowan, Young and B Campo getting plenty. Also liked Flynn Y., Billy W., Moir and HOF.

Lemmey has had plenty of opportunities but hasn't grasped them... Not enough authority in his game.

Not sure whats happened to Boyd but the occasional laser kick and lots of ordinary in his game.

Duffy has made a few errors.  Monahan been ok in patches too, but moir has been busier which is positive.  Same with Wilson. Thing is they haven't kicked on and still play like first year players at this level.

I know @kruddler liked whitlock not sure if it was this one or the other one, but between him and O'Farrell I couldn't tell you who the better intercept defender is and both look good.  I dont think we ended up with a bad key tall comparatively.

Who'd have thunk it, gave up a lead to lose by 1pt!

Kicked ourselves out of this one too.  Tight game in the balance, 3 set shots for 0.3 were our last 3 scores.  North pinched it by a rushed behind at the death.

Honestly, either of them would've done.
HOF has exceeded expectations thus far, but plenty have looked good this early and turned out to be a flash in the pan at most. Fingers crossed.

Carlton: 10 - 13 - 73
North 11 - 8 - 74
That says it all. Our disposal in the forward line is simply not good enough. Too many missed shots. Too many missed kicks. Not enough easy goals; in fact, we rarely get an easy goal.

[1] Archie Stevens - well done! Hasn't been in every week with more listed players available.
26 possessions, the best on the ground, 3 tackles, 5 clearances.

[2] Ashton Moir: Not there yet, but improving. As a mid, he has 4 clearances in the first quarter. That is more than seniors managed! He doesn't have the tank yet, but there is something there. He should have iced the game, but ...
17 possessions, 5 marks, 5 clearances and 1 excellent tackle.

[3] We missed Will Hayes again. Hopefully, he will be available for our next game, Saturday night. He provides leadership for a team that is ridiculously young.
We had 3 of the top 9 possession getters.

[4] Will White: gee, he has dropped off recently! He struggled to get 9 possessions and 1 goal 1. He definitely needs s couple more weeks in the 2's.

[5] I would like to play Cowan against Port, but he is still a long way off his best. He had 18 disposals, but when he's hot, he can get a lot more than that.
On the other hand, Billy Wilson did himself no harm at all. 24 possessions, 8 marks.

Fair enough.
