First AFLW player to have this procedure while still playing. 2 have had it after their AFLW career has ended.
I suspect Tilly won't be the last.
I cant see how either scenario was a healthy life choice.
To each their own.
I dont know how you get a they/them, and i dont understand why a supportive sports bra wasn't the answer. Why hate what your natural gifts are?
I just dont understand it.
There are plenty of people in the world that see a part of them as 'foreign'. People have amputated fingers, an arm or even a leg because it was not a part of 'them'. This is the same thing, just a different 'part'.
I don't pretend to understand it from a personal point of view, but i understand that others feel very strongly to the point they want parts of them removed in order to feel 'normal', as crazy as that is to your average punter.
Tilly seems happier as a result, so more power to them.
Im from a different era and dont get the non-binary stuff and the associated surgeries like adding/enhancing/removing different body parts etc. How do you play in a gender comp sport when you say you are non binary and have no gender?
This is the part I have a bit of trouble with as well.
People should be allowed to identify as whatever they feel.
But if you're happy to identify as non-binary and then opt for the competition with the lesser level of intensity and ability, a competition specifically labelled as a "women's" competition, it seems a bit of a contradiction of your identity.
Yep...imho if you identify as Non Binary then you play in the Non Binary comps and if there are none then thats unfortunate but the choice was made to identify as non binary which excludes you from male or female gender comps.
Tilly has certainly opened a can of worms. I don't see it being un-opened either. Those people who do not easily fit into the main categories will ALWAYS create conundrums that will have consequences, many of them unintended.
At the moment the AFLW is 'inclusive' in a way that the AFL could not: trans-gender players would not be able to cope with the physical demands of the AFL, no matter how 'inclusive' the AFL tried to be.
As we saw with Rhonda Rowsey, the AFLW could not cope with someone who they consider having a physical 'advantage'. While people like Tilly don't appear to have such an 'advantage', there won't be any issue. If that changes, then all bets are off.
Think you mean Hannah Mouncey crash.
Although the aflw would not be ready for ronda rousey either.
I fear this ability to do such surgery is really just papering over the cracks.
