Title: AFL Rd 22 2025 Pre Game Prognostications Carlton vs Gold Coast
Post by: crashlander on August 03, 2025, 11:07:14 pm
At Marvel next Saturday night at 19:35.
Not on free-to-air TV. :(
We are not likely to win this one either, as the Suns are playing well. They'll make their first ever finals series, while we plunge further into the abyss.

Channel 7 have chosen not to broadcast the game. The argument for Thursday night is the TV viewers lol.

Are you referring to Rnd 24?

It's a CheatsFC home game, the last thing they want broadcast is a final round loss to Carlton. I have to give CheatsFC their due, they are much better at the spin and marketing than Carlton, they will be doing their best over the next few weeks to paper over and distract from Hird becoming the new Demon's coach.

Ch.7 is infested with a CheatsFC supporter base, the two organisations lived next door to each other at Docklands for almost two decades, and to say there was a little nepotism might be a slight understatement. As a result, what benefits CheatsFC happens at Ch.7, whether it makes sense to the wider competition or not!

Carl vs Ess...Two bottom teams playing a dead rubber...welcome to life as a struggling team who will be playing Saturdays and late Sunday games next season.
To be fair to the broadcasters the standard of footy both teams have dished up this season is some of the ugliest rubbish seen for years, you wouldnt be using either team to promote the game.

Given that Ch 7 has no rights to Saturday footy, you can bet that's when most of our games will be.  To be 100% honest, that's not a bad result - at least we won't be faced with too many 5-day turnarounds.

And I much prefer going to games on a Saturday.  TBPH, I miss the days of 6 games starting at 2.10 every Saturday........

Better Homes and Gardens......

Given that both Bombers and Blues fans will be spending more time this September in the garden than at the MCG, it's probably a more relevant option!

No good in the garden either.

Be an interesting test for the '$1.8m Man' against Jarrod Witts without Pit to wear him down. Not sure TDK likes the reckless big guys.

Interesting dropping Pitto.
Not sure what the thinking is there.

Our line-up:

B:   42 Adam Saad   23 Jacob Weitering   32 Matthew Carroll
HB:   2 Lachlan Cowan   33 Lewis Young   26 Nick Haynes
C:   13 Blake Acres   9 Patrick Cripps   43 Ashton Moir
HF:   4 Oliver Hollands   10 Harry McKay   38 Will White
F:   8 Lachie Fogarty   40 Hudson O'Keeffe   6 Zac Williams
R:   12 Tom De Koning   36 Cooper Lord   29 George Hewett
Int:   35 Billy Wilson   19 Corey Durdin   45 Flynn Young   3 Jesse Motlop   44 Francis Evans
Em:   25 Jaxon Binns   27 Marc Pittonet   39 Alex Cincotta

{1] Our defence looks much weaker with HOF. But at least we know that Young can play the role. How well? That is the question. He'll probably play on Read. :(
[2] We've got only 1 ruck this week, which puts the ball firmly in TDK's court. He's been down, while Witts has been in career best form. Still, no Pitto, which may improve the VFL boys' chances.
[3] Our forward structure - I have a lot of questions. HOK as the key forward ... Fogarty, who doesn't kick goals ... You get the idea.

We won't be anything close to favourites.

At least I can get to this one. I intend to complain to the AFL about the number of Thursday night games we've had to endure. Another one is the last straw. They've made my membership worthless. They won't do anything, but at least I know I'll tried.

Witts is smashing the comps best ruckman, De Koning isn't anywhere near the top echelon of rucks at the minute.

Too many small forward crabs - Binns and Cincotta can provide some outside drive.

Three small forwards on the bench is like wtf you doing Vossy.

With a bit of certainty around Voss, and a nothing to lose approach.

De Koning is barely competing, doesnt want to injure himself in readiness for playing for StKilda. I actually dont know why we are playing him, should have dumped him months ago.

I thought that Tom played pretty well last week and had him in my best five.

He's not a key forward and probably never will be and I reckon he'll be a lot better tonight with Skull sharing the key forward and back up ruck role with Harry.  Skull is a more natural and competent forward and I think that he and Harry could do well tonight.

Yes I agree, TDK is best as a ruck with a F50 rotation, he's not a KPF and is not likely to ever be a KPF.

Are you saying you finally agree about 2 rucks being no good?

I'm certainly not saying that!  TDK and Skull are both ruckmen first and foremost but Skull can do OK as a key forward.

It's not the number of ruckmen in the team, it's the number of ruckmen who can be effective in other roles.

Correct.
This was the crux of the discussion, that was overlooked by most.
The other was that it was dependent on our spine and how fit it was.

As for Skull being ok as a key forward.....jury is still out on that one.
But without Charlie, there is a spot open for him.

I don't expect much change this year.

Over the off-season i expect a few changes that will help you find that reason.
