We are serious underdogs.
Not sure whats going on with the lions jumper.
That tree on their backside looks very different from the wide shot.
Makes them look like a bunch of plumbers with buttcrack on full display! :o
Beat me to it, was about to post the same thing
Yeah not great as they were walking off!
What a great game! The girls are just playing so Much better this season! The kicks are huge, the marking really strong - super impressive!
3rd quarter start wasn’t great but they toughed it out and go back their mojo in the fourth 👏🏽
Good result. Thought they were follow the men in blowing a half time lead. Well done.
What a top effort against last years grand finalists.
I don't know what kind of skills training they did in the off-season, but get the blokes doing the same one.
The lead, kick, mark, repeat is something our lads struggle with.
Very unexpected win, but we 100% deserved it. Controlled the game. Kicked straight and attacked constantly.
Yes, Lions came hard in the 3rd and looked ready to run over the top, but the girls gutsed it out and held their nerve.
Play like that every week and we will play finals.
Carlton: 9 - 4 - 58
Brisbane: 6 - 8 - 44
I didn't see this happening. We kicked 5 goals in a row at one point in the second quarter.
Our mids were brilliant:
Abbie McKay: 32 possessions
Dayna Finn: 29 possessions and 10 marks.
Mimi Hill: 25 possessions
I'm looking forward to seeing the replay. Some of the highlights are special.
Fitzpatrick's double, Bohanna's boomerang and Sherar's screamer. What a beauty!
Maybe we just pulled their pants down....
I'll see myself out.
Was a great game, played to our strengths again, held steady and persisted despite the Lions rebound and pressure.
Yes, I found myself having a second look on several occasions. It wasn’t nearly as bad as the women’s cycling outfit from several years ago but it wasn’t a good look.
It’s great that Indigenous designers get an opportunity but they really need someone with relevant expertise to cast an eye over their designs.
It certainly makes a difference when your key defenders mark everything that comes their way, your rucks dominate, your key forwards hit the scoreboard, and your midfielders get leather poisoning.
I just hope Ronnie’s injury isn’t serious.
She was walking under her own steam by the time she reached the boundary line, so hopefully it's just a knock.
It's amazing just how much difference having just a single player with extreme pace can have, and now we have two one at each end.
Yet, fans watching that game will still claim our AFL team needs a tear down rebuild! ::)
There is significant structural and tactical similarity between our AFL and AFLW midfields, it's the equivalent Erone that is missing from the AFL. I might have to register a "Jagga26" number plate!
I didn’t see the game myself so have no comment re your perception of pace giving us an upgrade.
Last year in very isolated passages of play the girls were playing in this fashion, the problem was they turned the ball over almost as badly as the men.
From what I’ve seen this year they are controlling and not wasting the ball, as others have noted, we need to get the men’s program on board with this tactic.
Congrats girls.
It seems to me that the skill level in the AFLW games I’ve seen this season is significantly higher than it has been. One grab marks are now the norm and not just from Cordner, Scholz, Good, Harrington and Bohanna.
I think it was Dayna Finn who kicked a couple of Gaelic football lob kicks that were perfectly weighted to her teammate’s advantage. When the ball left her boot I thought “Oh no!” but I shouldn’t have worried.
Brisbane has got plenty of speedsters but it was often our girls who won the race to the ball, made run down tackles and charged back to make goal line spoils and smothers.
Not only has Erone got foot speed to burn, she has the confidence to take on and beat her opponents … and she’s not alone.
It seems the girls do not tolerate shizen delivery, they let teams mates know about it without uncertainty, fear or favour whenever a pill sails overhead or falls short! Equally they congratulate each other when things go well, I'd say our AFLW Communications skills are a step up on the lads.
Furthermore, at top speed she appears to be very reliable at finishing, once she gets goal side of opponents it's over and missing seems to be the exception.
It takes a few irish girls to teach the aussie girls how to run, carry and kick.
Skill level has jumped more in this off-season than i've ever seen year on year since the AFLW started.
I'm assuming they all have a Gaelic Footy background, you can't be haphazard kicking a round ball, there is no such thing in Gaelic as a mongrel punt that sails through the goals.
If you get the contact wrong it will bend like a Beckham.
It's amazing how skills can improve with some time and space.
Great win. Others have highlighted great points. IMO confidence, decision making, connection, and composure are developing very nicely. The girls stand to gain further having experienced a milestone win 🙌
It was interesting that Darcy Vescio called it a special win. I think that’s an astute observation.
It was also interesting to hear Darcy talk about 3/4 time against Hawthorn and how the girls believed that they could win. Of course, we didn’t win, but that self-belief from the girls is a huge positive step.
