Hit badly by injury this week: we've lost Tara Bohanna and Mimi Hill. :(
Still, we do get Yasmin Duursma back.
Our line-up:
B: 6 Gabriella Pound 49 Madeline Hendrie
HB: 36 Ciara Fitzgerald 21 Harriet Cordner 3 Darcy Vescio
C: 24 Brooke Vickers 25 Keeley Sherar 17 Dayna Finn
HF: 20 Lily Goss 7 Poppy Scholz 19 Erone Fitzpatrick
F: 16 Breann Harrington 55 Sophie McKay
R: 12 Jessica Good 5 Abbie McKay 13 Aisling Reidy
Int: 22 Mia Austin 4 Keeley Skepper 23 Lila Keck 1 Amelia Velardo 11 Yasmin Duursma 33 Lou-Lou Field 37 Maddison Torpey 18 Madeleine Guerin
Emergencies will be determined probably on Saturday.
Mimi is our best player.
Tara is our best forward.
Yasmin is a delist at the end of the year imo.
The only player I've been less impressed with than Yasmin is the player that is getting dropped this week - Meg Robertson.
I want to like Yas, and her family, but im just not seeing it with her.
I think Yasmin has done a bit more than Meg has to date, but she isn't looking to be one of our trading successes.
Meg has struggled in the games I've seen.
Girls got flogged.
Carlton: 5 - 7 - 37
Sydney: 11 - 10 - 76
The girls were seriously off the boil today, in all aspects of the game.
Poppy was a shining light though. I think we've got a keeper there.
I had to check out Ruby Sargent-Wilson's name. At first I thought her parent's must have been fans of Dad's Army ... but then I realised that they probably aren't old enough to be familiar with John Le Mesurier's character ::)
Missing some elite talent in Hill and Bohanna was pretty obvious today. Other girls couldn't make up the gap.
Had to check if Vescio was playing today halfway through the last.
Saw her get 2 kickins and a tackle in the last 3 minutes of the game.
4 possessions and 2 tackles was Darcys total for the entire game.....with the game played at Vescios end most of the day.
Skilled and smart, sure......a shadow of themselves with rookies coming through showing more on a weekly basis.
12 girls have scored a coaches vote this year. Vescio has not.
I don't want to labour the point, but surely others can see this too.
Agree Yasmin has done more then Meg, but both should be delisted IMO.
Yasmin again today is too outside and too slow to react. The game at this level is too quick for her......and Meg.
See what exactly - that eleven of our players had less than ten disposals and five, including Darcy Vescio, Keeley Skepper and Breann Harrington, had four possessions or less?
GOALS
Sydney: Molloy 2, Kennedy 2, Ham 2, Pullar, McCarthy, C.Hamilton, Grunden, Sargent-Wilson
Carlton: Scholz 3, Reidy, Sherar
BEST
Sydney: Gardiner, Ham, Kennedy, Morphett, Pullar, Fish, C.Hamilton
Carlton: A.McKay, Scholz, Sherar, Finn, Velardo
We were destroyed around the packs today. Our mids were thrashed. :( We were out-scored when we had the breeze (more like a gale). Our best scoring quarters were into the wind!
The Swans had 6 of the top 7 possession getters, including one lass who had 43!
We won the taps easily, but that was about it.
Kudos to Poppy Scholz, who kicked 3 and could have had 5.
We had the 5 least possessions getters, which included Breann Harrington!
A nightmare of a game. :(
That only one of them is consistently at the bottom of the possession list.
Darcy's last 2 possessions came from kick ins.
I have no idea where the first 2 were, but its possible it was from that as well.
That is not the output of an elite player at the top of their game now is it. Especially since Darcy played backline, which is where the ball was most of the game.
Alternatively, Harrington was deep forward for most of it and barely had a chance to get near it....Did have 7 hitouts and a goal assist to go with the vescio equalling 2 tackles.
Harrington has also been in the coaches votes on no less than 5 occassions this year.
Vescio? Donuts.
To be honest, I think that Mia Austin and Tarni Brown are on shakier ground that Darcy, even if she is not playing as effectively as she once did. Poppy Scholz going forward and looking very good could force Mia out. Mia has never had a high possessions game. Darcy has some runs on the board, even if her recent form is more Labuschagne-like.
That said, Darcy has been at it for a while. She may decided to retire rather than play on. Then again, there is the 100 game milestone that is much closer now. One way or another, I don't see her playing in 2027.
I'm not saying we delist Darcy.
I'm saying that her output is average at best when looking through the rest of the team. Talent wise, the rest of the aflw has caught up to Vescio. No shame in that. Age happens to all of us.
If vescio is the 30th player on your list, you have a good list.
Now vescio would be about 15th on the list.
Vescio was used to being top 3, but no longer.
