Not there but watching it. Cracking day to be there. I don't know why I enjoy it, but I do. Biggest knock is that 60mins of playing time takes 3 hours

Don't like it. Don't watch it. Simples.
Clearly, i love my AFL.....and the NFL. Worldwide there is 100x more NFL supporters than AFL supporters.
I've seen 2 games live, in the US.
For reference, a regular season game between 2 teams with basically no rivalry (Vikings vs Seahawks) was louder than the Blues vs Cats 96k final we just had.....in a maxed out 60k odd open stadium
People who don't like it generally don't understand it.....and don't take the time to understand it. Easier to throw stones, rather than show interest.

I would've loved to have gone, but baulked at the ticket prices. I saw 2 games, bought food, drinks and probably the nights accomodation (x2) for those 2 games for less than a ticket to this game would cost. Ridiculously overpriced. Especially when you see what some of the ground level seats can 'see'.

My mates got tickets. They are there for less than face value which is interesting. Bought over the web from Switzerland, and not a scam.

Interested on what was 'face value' of those tickets.
Originally they advertised tickets of $89 and $135 IIRC. The day they were on sale the 'cheap' tickets were $400 and the expensive ones were $600 or so.
They do dynamic ticketting i think, so the more in demand they are, the more expensive they get.

270 dollars for 2 tickets, punt road end looks like olympic stand but could be on the southern stand side. Behind the goals, they would be the "cheapest" tickets, but considering you couldn't get one...

Thats a good deal. I could have got one, i just chose not to pay (minimum) $400 for it when i can watch at home for free. If it was a Vikings game, i would've gone.

The people who are duded are those who paid way overs for front row at ground level on the wing, late purchasing at top dollar, they made the assumption they were the best seats in the house and were screwed over, due to the relative size and curvature of the ground they are basically looking at a bench full of arses!
The best seats would have been up a level front row.

Those are the 'fans' who turn up because its an event. Any actual fan would know you ain't seeing $h!t from there.

Most were international visitors apparently, they are ignorant of the venue.
NFL venues are like a billiard table, and the closest seats sit about 2m above the playing surface.

There's photos emerging of our blokes being there.
Gov, Walshy, Crippa, Cottrell, Weitering, i think a couple others. Also reckon i saw Jamo next to Crippa. Perhaps the rumours of him coming to take over from diesel are true.

Between being flat out at work and the saturated media on this crapshow, I didnt even realise there was a game on tonight.

I shook Frasers' hand, level 1, outside the (re-purposed) Members Dining Room. He was drinking a can of Carlton and was wearing a sweatshirt (no hood), looked really relaxed. I said "thanks for what you have done for our club", shook his hand, and quickly moved on. He was very gracious!

Agree with the Rams, GTC - they didn't want to know about. Bit odd considering Australia is part of their assigned international territory.
49ers embraced it - be good to have them here again. One of their media pack has you tube of trying Australian foods - he didn't like tomato sauce, but liked Vegemite.
Apparently, there are quite a few international games - my son was saying London (3), Germany amongst other places.

The idiots chose to come a day or so before and stuffed up. Now they are looking about it.

I heard an interesting discussion on the wireless with a jet lag expert (who knew there was such a career?). The theory behind their decision to stick with their usual routine and their local timezone is sound, but the different daylight hours will get you. Of course, that meant that they weren't involved in promoting their franchise and the NFL and that was the point of the exercise.

The theory is sound, really? I've been travelling the globe for decades and I've never heard such rubbish, daylight hours rule not holding the time zone you exist in.
In my experience, the people who know what to do are the airlines, if you eat when they offer you food, if you sleep when they dim the lights, you'll be in about the best possible condition you can get. It's the Norbit's who push back and watch movies or News all night long that suffer!
As an aside, NASA have been trying this stuff for decades, the Mars lander crew live on a 25hr day so that every week is like a shift change and they operate like zombies. They do it because a Mars day is close to 24.7hrs.
When I was with News Ltd, we worked Newspaper hours, which can be anything from around the clock to 4am starts. You had to have a room setup with blockout everything just to survive, and the best time of day to play or practise sport was dawn. Most of us slept in two sessions, which before the invention of electric lighting was apparently the normal way to exist, with a 1st and 2nd sleep.

Sorry LP, but I'm going with Dr David Cunnington on this. After all, he is a sleep physician with over 20 years' experience in clinical practice.
For the record, he maintains that, for the approaches taken by the 49ers and the Rams, "Each has a rationale, and either strategy is valid." Furthermore, Allen Sills, the NFL's chief medical officer, confirmed that both teams had engaged sleep experts to formulate their approach. The Rams' followed the same strategy last year when they flew to London on the day of their game, thrashed against the Jaguars 35-7, and returned home without needing to stay in a hotel. Of course, flying to Melbourne is a different kettle of worms than flying to London.

he sounds like a fence sitter.
To be honest different strokes for different folks is likely better. Personally travelling east is always more exhausting than travelling west, and I would write off the first 24 hours than expect anyone to be at their best after 17 hours in the air.

Cunnington was quite firmly of the opinion that the Rams' strategy was high risk and less likely to succeed because of the significant difference in daylight times. What he was pointing out was that both approaches were based on sleep science and expert advice. The 49ers' expert took the points this time.

I think airlines do everything they can to get you there in the best possible state, and they have millions of flights and billions of passengers to back the tactics up with hard data. This Rams experiment reads more like the RFK solution.
The worst jetlag I experienced was Concorde London to New York, that was probably altitude related. But due to the speed you had no time to adjust sleep and meal patterns, and I think that contributes a few hours later. Second worst was Melb - Arizona - Melb in just under 72hrs, that analogous to the Rams. Now days I do the exact opposite and hop to the UK through HK and arrive fresh as a daisy

that journo is awesome. he has kept following and commenting on the footy, even since he went home. he made a comment, about the bris/hawks game that "you americans dont know what you are missing out on"... he's adopted dangerfield as his hero and is full on giving hot takes on the afl, after going to 1 game and watching a couple on the teev. its great content
