A narcissist, convicted felon and dementia sufferer walk into a bar.

The barman says, "What will you have Mr President?"

We occupy it only as long as we are stronger than those who seek to take it.
My problem with this debate is that it's only applied to colonialism, while there is more than a trivial amount of evidence that many who currently describe themselves as 1st nations were most likely better to describe themselves as first invaders. If you are an academic and try to even discuss such evidence it's pretty much politically driven career suicide, the quality of the evidence has nothing to do with it, you cannot even be heard to whisper an alternative to the current narratives.

If 200, 300 or 800 years is not enough to let things go, neither is 10,000, 15,000 or 40,000.

LOL.

Look at work in the last hour in office to sum up what a corrupt lying individual dopey Joe is.

After he publicly denounced Trump when he pardoned a few hundred people at the end of his first term in office, dopey Joe (this was when he could still put a coherent sentence together) stated 'We democrats don't believe in presidents pardoning people. It a very bad look'

Then went on to pardon 8000! - 3 times more then any US president.

Just one example of another typical 2 faced lying politician.

Biden is the first US President to hand over power to a feckwit who has vowed to persecute anyone who has opposed him.  Biden pardoned Dr Fauci and the 06 Jan investigation committee, among others that Aurangzeb was going after.

I get that MAGA halfwits support Aurangzeb; they are gullible folk who can easily be sucked in by his lies and the manipulation of the Fuhrer Musk. I struggle to understand how anyone with the benefit of a decent education in a country with a liberal democracy can even contemplate supporting a narcissistic, senile, criminal rapist who stooped so low as to attempt to make a profit from his cryptocurrency during his inauguration.

Care to name any of those First Nations folk who were actually second?

With the exception of the Māori slaughter, enslavement and cannibalisation of the Moriori, there’s absolutely no evidence of any “second waves” wiping out those who came before.  Of course, there has been migration, conflict and displacement of indigenous people by other indigenous people but that’s inconsequential in comparison to colonisation by the European powers.

In the case of Greenland, there’s evidence of human occupation well before the Norse arrived in the 9th century CE and the Norse colonists were Norwegian, not Danish. That original Norse colony failed and the Inuit folk occupied most of the island.

Norway/Denmark continued to claim sovereignty over Greenland on the basis that the descendants of the original Norse settlers were still there.  That changed in 1721 when Norway/Denmark sent missionaries to Greenland and discovered that there were no descendants of the Norse colonists and that the population was entirely Inuit.  The population today is around 90% Inuit.

Greenland has been part of the Danish kingdom  since the 18th century, but was aligned with the USA when Denmark was occupied by the Nazis during WW2.

Trump wants Greenland for it's untapped Mineral wealth.Global warming has exposed the bedrock and the Danes have found it's a goldmine of resources including rare earths. The Russians have found the same in extreme parts of Siberia and with China owning battery technology and most of the resources to produce it there are military implications for the future and the threat of China cutting supplies to the USA if Trump imposes sanctions, tariffs etc.
The USA dept of defense have invested heavily in mining companies around the world including "Lynas" in Australia which produce rare earths but it won't be enough.
I'd expect the USA to lean on Denmark who are a NATO member and get what they want regardless of who owns Greenland.

Opening bids re Panama and Greenland
American involvement will increase... but it will be a 'soft' takeover through negotiation rather than confrontation.
Marco Rubio is off to Panama in the next week or two.
They'll make them an offer they can't refuse.

One of the problems facing this administration is the POTUS's short attention span ... and it's getting shorter.  During the discussion about pardoning the 06 Jan insurrectionists, with JD Vance arguing that violent offenders shouldn't be released, the POTUS lost interest and exclaimed "Feck it! Release them all!" much to the dismay of the GOP and Democrat politicians and the police officers who were the targets of the insurrectionists.

Among those subsequently released was Daniel Charles Ball, a convicted felon who took a home made bomb with him to the insurrection and threw it at 25 police officers during the battle for control of the Western Tunnel.  Ball was arrested one day after his pardon under a bench warrant issued by the US Department of Justice for unlawful possession of a firearm as a felon.

This administration has all the signs of a classic clusterfeck in the making.  ::)

Sagan is a hero of mine but he is no prophet, he copied an ancient storyline with modern aspects of politics and technology substituting for religion and magic.

Is this prediction or life imitating art, the question that really screws with you is would it be like this if that story was never told?

Trump and his ilk grow because scientists stop asking.

About 168 years prior to Sagan's sage-like comments Abe Lincoln offered similar observations only his concerns were around the birth of this new thing called Capitalism and the eventual effect that would have on 'the Republic.' I don't have the quotes on hand, but Abe's faith was in democracy (govt of the people by the people), not this new industrial capitalism thing which concerned him, deeply.

A number of specialist writers in the areas of psychology and mental health (personality types and disorders in particular) have noted and detailed how if capitalism was a person, that person would be sociopathic.

Trump has suggested that Zelensky should have surrendered to the larger entity in Russia when a deal could have been made at the start of the invasion and that the Ukrainian leader initiated hostilities years earlier???😕

This is the thinking that worries me about the Trumpster and where we are heading closer to home with China and Taiwan.
How do you make America great again by selling out a country who wants to be part of Nato to your cold war enemy, this stuff from Trump will only encourage Putin to push harder into other ex USSR states and give him what he wants with a reunited Russia and Stalin like status.
