Today we hear about RedTrump wanting to place 100% tariffs on movies and media, it's basically a rock being thrown at his foreign media critics.

It reminds me of the time some Hollywood Director, I can't recall which one, lectured Andrew Lloyd Webber about coming to Hollywood to make "The Big Dollars", boasting about a few hundred million made by a recent hit movie, to which Lloyd Webber kindly and quietly highlighted that Cats had made $6 Billion.

I doubt the foreign media or industry really care what RedTrump does, that industry makes it's money from bums on seats and the USA is a tiny fraction of the global market. In any case, as his trade policies persist, the traditional US movie going market won't be in a position to afford any of that "luxury" activity!

The USA is about 4% of the global market, maybe somebody should send RedTrump to a matinee session of Crazy Rich Asians!

Trump wants to reopen Alcatraz to house the worst of the worst crims, according to Former speaker Nancy Pelosi it wont be happening due to the massive cost to refit and run the former Prison island which is now a tourist attraction and part of the National Park system.

It would be cheaper and more efficient to convert Mar-a-Lago into a prison.  It already has criminals living there.

They use such cruel and unusual methods of torture at that location I can't even consider it as viable for the worst of the worst, humanity has to have some standards.

Even to the most moderate among us, capital punishment might be preferable to enduring something like this!

It's going to be very interesting how the new Pope plays out in the MAGA heartlands, given he already has an extensive library of countering RedTrump's claims. Especially when he sees RedTrump's active policies and false evocations harming the defenseless.

So the MAGA heartland, heartlands that are deeply Christian and sometimes quite Fundamentalist, have quite a conundrum facing them. So that poses a question, is the selection of a US Pope an accident? Can a US Pope overcome the embedded bigotry and racism of the USA?

Just as a guess, I suspect there would be some significant differences in the strong  MAGA areas and strong Roman Catholic areas in terms of location in ths USA.
I doubt those MAGA areas would give much thought or consideration to anything the Pope has to say.

That may not be the case with more moderate Republican leaning Catholic voters.
That's where it may have an impact.

I understand that only Brazil, the Philippines and Mexico have more more Catholics than the USA.  However, the USA has a long history of being staunchly anti-Catholic and the conservative, MAGA types are generally of Protestant persuasions.  I suspect that they couldn't give a flying fig for the Pope, American or not!  Then there are the ultra-conservative Catholics who embrace MAGA

It will be a different story for the Latinos, Irish and Italian Americans, and other historically Catholic groups, many of whom are feeling the brunt of the MAGA madness.

Lunatic and presidential confidante, Laura Loomer, described Pope Leo XIV as a "Woke Marxist Pope" and dismissed him as “just another Marxist puppet in the Vatican.”
